Nigeria's Democracy:So Far So Good?

Democracy is a form of government in which all eligible citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives. Democracy allows eligible citizens to participate equally—either directly or through elected representatives—in the proposal, development, and creation of laws. It encompasses social, economic and cultural conditions that enable the free and equal practice of political self determination.

As we celebrate another democracy day today May 29,2013 and looking at the definition of the word would you agree that this has been applicable in Nigeria?
Would you agree that there is reason to celebrate today?

Who should we even blame for Nigeria's woes?......yep you heard me right!....i said woes because there seems to be no solution from any angle.

  1. In its true form, there's no democracy in Nigeria.

What exists are different forms of autocracy, plutocracy, gerontocracy and oligarchy.

Who to blame? Lord Lugard for the contraption called Nigeria and the pseudo-amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates.

There is democracy day today and then the June 12th public holiday right? Wow, I need to live there to get all these free days from work.
