Deportation Brouhaha: Gov Fashola Seal's Orji Kalu's Lagos Home.

STOP PRESS!!!...The sealed home has however been ordered re-opened by Fashola.Nice one BRT..its still ''Eko o ni baje oooooo''

The Lagos State Government has sealed a property of a former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, in Park View Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The sealing of the house is coming on the heels of the criticism of Fashola by Kalu over the deportation of 72 residents of Lagos, who are of South East origin.
The Igbo men and women were dumped by the Lagos State Government under the bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State, in the wee hours of the day.

Amnesty International has in fact put the number of Lagos State residents deported by the Fashola administration at over 9,000.
Kalu had after the development told Fashola to apologise to the Igbos for the deportation and threatened to sue him if he failed to do so.
Reacting to the sealing of the Park View house of Kalu, his Special Adviser (Media), Emeka Obasi, said it was done as a revenge for the criticism of Kalu, who is the Coordinator of Njiko Igbo, a group fighting the cause of the South East.
Obasi said the property had been there for several years and that sealing it after just two weeks of his boss criticsing Fashola over the deportation issue was an indication that there was more to it.
Obasi said Kalu was not the only Igbo to have suffered such fate in Lagos State "after the wicked and ungodly act of deporting legitimate residents of Lagos State."
He added: "Why is it that it is now that the property is being sealed, barely two weeks after my boss disagreed with the action of Fashola?
"We maintain our stand and this will not distract us from fighting for the people.
"The action of the Lagos State Government remains unconstitutional because every citizen of Nigeria has a right to live in any part of the country.
"Fashola should remember that the Igbo community constitutes about 35 per cent of registered voters in Lagos State and they should be treated like they matter in the scheme of things."

*This is becoming messy...whats all these nah?

  1. Its a pity that Fashola, a SAN can be acting illegally simply because he's in authority today. Tomorrow when he leaves that office,he will become a 'saint' like Fani Kayode criticising others. God is watching us.

    1. Lol...Fashola didn't deport on Igbo, what he does is, the pick up destitute on d street, people dat don't have a home and sleep on d street or under the bridge, ask them where their home town is and offer to return them back to their village.. He did same thing and returned some to Abeokuta, Osun and Oyo state.. Its better to go back to your family house in your village than sleeping under d bridge in Lagos..and if u happen to be from lagos and they confirm it for sure,u undergo a rehabilitation program, something to empower you..

I kind of understand his point sha,u don't expect him to be running d state alawi on everybody when the other destitute have state government who collect alawi too,let them use it to help destitute from their state too.. U guys remember a woman dat came from d east and stripped herself naked infront of Lagos high court and was beging Fashola to give her 100k dat she heard its only Lagos state govt that can help her..She left Anambra and travelled with the last money she had on her..this happened some months ago..

Those who live in glass house don't throw stones..Fashola is a smart man,if he sealed Kalu's property, its probably an illegal property,if its not, Kalu should sue him.Shikena

    2. It is unconstitutional to deport any Nigerian from one state in Nigeria to the other. Every Nigerian destitute or not has the right to reside where they so please in Nigeria, dats the law. There is no special provision for destitute in the constitution so the term every Nigerian in the constitution encompasses all. Fashola is a governor I respect but this act was not properly done.

    4. @Anon1:29; Most of this destitute when asked say they they have a family house in their village when dey can sleep confortably @ night but don't have transport back.. Don't you think its better to get them back home than sleep on d street in Lagos and getting exposed to all type of danger? Think about it..

  3. Tribal sentiments are stoked by the ruling elites to keep the masses fighting while they loot the treasury. Stella, stay away from this matter because there is a lot of mis-information floating around. Orji Uzor is just trying to find a voice. After he distributed pictures of his home, he didnt get much traction, now he is injecting himself into the hottest topic.

These guys have never done us any good so wtf

  5. Why people are turning this into a tribal issue is what I don't get. This is not the first time Fashola is 'deporting' people from Lagos. He did some years (can't remember exactly what year) but it stuck in my mind because the deportees were dumped right in front of the Government House (Oyo State).

Nobody said anything, now because the deportees are from a different ethnic group then everyone's talking.

I doubt if all these people shouting have even seen or done anything to rehabilitate the destitute that were deported, all they can do is use it to score cheap political points; na me love my brothers pass. *hiss*

Why would you leave your state to come and be sleeping under the bridge or even worse places in another state? That's how they get initiated into cults/robbery gangs.

    2. Yea,I can remember when he deported some back to Ogun State,he droped dem at Lafenwa..He said they pratically have no home in Lagos, they sleep on the streets and its better for them to find their way back to their Family.. He has returned people pratically to every state in d country..

If this people don't actually have a home in Lagos,y not just gome back to their family for real

  6. Wow this is really sad, if this is really true then Fashola has lost it. He is a lawyer and should know better, it is unconstitutional to deport a citizen within his or her own country. Its not done, to think anyone supports this line of reasoning is just amazing.

  14. I will repeat what i have been saying all this years, all this ACN people are dictators, if they are voted in, Nigeria and Nigerians will be in deep shit! I am not a politicians, but if Nigerians make the mistake of voting them in, hmmm.. they are intolerant, they are always right, once they make a decision it is final. I still remember how Arebeshola ( i think that is Osun state ) jailed a man for 49 years or so for stealing a phone? Well, that is an example of what Nigerians will get if they ever come to power..hmm..( they are now APC )

    1. Oloriburuku ni e for trying to discredit Aregbesola. Dem tell you say Aregbesola be the judge? Abi the thieif na your broda? For the sake of clarity, the dude bagged heavy punishment because he used the number to defraud many unsuspecting Nigerians and the sentence he got was for several counts running concurrently. Meaning he might not do more than 10yrs in jail. Get your facts right before posting stupid comments. The Greatest leaders in history are men of courage who must take decisive decisions for the benefit of the greater society. That is what the leaders in the Southwest represent. Let others emulate so their people can remain at home rather than going out to cause embarrassment for themselves.

  16. anonymous @ 10.09 your too much. For every action there is a consequence Fashola is a smart SAN. trust me must have weighed the consequences of his action. Let governors of other states make their state attractive enough for their citizens instead of having them travel down to Lagos with their last card.

    2. Don't be silly!!! Lagos has more opportunities today because of its location. It has ports that enabled the first foreigners to land on it. It was able to develop faster than other places because it has doors of entry for western world. AND it belongs to us all Nigerians. I am Igbo and I DO support Fashola but please don't say such nonsense about igbos thinking Lagos is their land of opportunities. And Port Harcourt then, with its oil companies ? Is it land of opportunities for the Yorubas? Please.

    4. My dear Ibo people are all over the world, they businesses and properties all over the world. Lagos is not a land of opportunity rather it's the blessing of God upon them that is speaking. If they leave Lagos the blessing will go with them. It is not new that success attracts both good and evil people. The good will appreciate the successful while the evil are provoked to jealousy and a jealous person can go to any level to insult and criticise.

  21. Its unconstitutional to send any Nigerian packing from any part of the country to another. There is no special provision for destitutes in the constiution, a Nigerian is a Nigerian. If they want to start deporting they should ammend the laws, untill then its unconstitutional. As for Orji Uzor Kalu, I don't understand when u became the voice of ndi'igbo. What did u do for the people of Abia when u where in power.

  23. Fatimah, you've spoken brilliantly. BRF hasn't gone cold because of this messy issue, which, to me, is a non-issue. He's clearly explained himself on the relocation of these people. A man has no food, clothes, or shelter in a place that isn't his original home; isn't it a wise decision to go back to your parents home whr you'll at least have a decent place to yourself? Those who claim that the Nigerian man has the right to live anywhere in this country are right, but then they should PLEEEEAASSE come forward with adequate donations and help these people or get lost with their jaundiced sentiments. Fashola, best Nigerian governor. Anyone having issues with that should go and hug transformer.

  24. if what you are saying is true, then why did he dump them under the bridge in another state? instead of helping them to their village like you proclaim? seems his plan was not in any way to assist these people or in any way humane, he just shifted their location from under one bridge to under another bridge, like they used to catch slaves and transport them to other cities in America years back.

  28. I read the comments and i want to be objective as much as possible.

First, i am not an Igbo or Yoruba but a NIGERIAN!

History taught me the Yorubas supported the ONENESS of Nigeria, hence the defeat of the Biafra war.

During census, the Igbos left Lagos and other states amass to their own states to be counted, which defeat the purpose of ONENESS.

Lagos is a hubbub of commercial activities because of it's port which attracted people like bees are drawn to honey and Igbos can venture into any business to make money regardless of the risks and reprisals.

During the Abiola brouhaha, they left Lagos amass out of fear of war, which again does not show ONENESS, and during the months of absence, there was a lull in business, traffic hold-ups were reduced, Landlords were broke. This showed that Igbos carried a larger % of the population in Lagos!

They make money from Lagos, and send it back home as Nigerians in diaspora do.Lagos to them is as London or America is to Nigerians, to achieve the America dream or Lagos dream. They also erected mansions and edifice which gave Lagos a good look and brought investments which also created employment.

The truth is that, the resources in Lagos continues to depreciate everyday rather than appreciate because the people outnumber the available resources, and many are not able to attain the LAGOS DREAM, hence, becoming more of a liability to the Government and people around them. Just as developed countries are doing now, to help such people relocate back to their countries because the global economy is biting hard and they are not contributing.

The Igbos should not take this personally because he also sent other tribes back.

This action by Fashola should rather instigate the affected state Governors to put machinery in motion to make their state lucrative, so that people would not migrate, rather it would attract investors.

  29. its as simple as this BRF or any gov for that matter has no legal rite to deport any citizen weather to ogun, osun, oyo,or abia. plz when we see the truth we should say it.if he had no hidden agenda why did he have to drop them @ nite mmtuchhh BUFFALO SHIRT

    ReplyDelete
  30. honestly i took my time to read you comment but trust me you miss the point,Nigeria runs a federal system as such every citizen has the rite to live anywhere @ any time we all have equal rite to settle in any part of the country what Brf did is so unconstitutional and that's the fact, plus the system is so delicate such act can result to a lot of tension both politically and socially as such our leaders must be careful wit their action(s),more so lets not forget the fact like you ritely mentioned this our igbo brothers do a lot of biz in lag and they pay their tax so my advice to the good gov is to act with caution
