Nigerian Man Deported For Attempting To Marry A Portugese Woman...Sham Marriage.

These pictures show police officers interrupting a sham wedding between a Nigerian man living illegally in the UK and a Portuguese woman.
Home Office immigration officers swooped on the ceremony, which was held at a registry office in Harrow, North London.
The man, 32, has now been sent back to Nigeria, and the woman, 22, is on bail until November 7.

The photographs and footage come after it emerged yesterday that one in five civil marriages in parts of Britain may be bogus.
Some 15,000 such ceremonies a year are taking place simply to get around immigration law, estimates one of the country’s most senior registrars, Mark Rimmer.
Last year the Home Office received nearly 1,900 warnings about potentially bogus unions.
But Mr Rimmer, the chairman of the Local Registration Services Association, said that figure represented ‘the tip of a very large iceberg’. He said that in urban areas, up to 20 per cent of marriages are ‘suspicious’.
He estimated that overall, 15,000 of the 173,000 civil weddings each year in England and Wales could be fake unions designed to evade immigration laws.culled

  12. I really don't know what to say. It's the system that is causing all this confusion. He could have found a girlfriend, dated and with time gotten married. Funny enough he might have a wife already in Nigeria. To those of you male and female planning to travel in the future, try and go Solo, that way, desperation wouldn't set in whereby you would have to marry a stranger who could be ANYBODY killer, druggie, mafioso, you name it. It's hard without working papers agreed but with prayer and God's guidance, you wouldn't end up being embarrassed like a common criminal all in the name of survival. Some people have been unfortunate to have been deported due to hard luck but when you start tackling with the law, then you are fodder for justice. These sham marriages go on everyday and are not limited in the UK alone. Take a look at the US, a lot of people are married there because of the notorious Green Card. A lot of mixed race kids out there have one parent as a foreign National all in the name of the Green Card. I heard a rumour that a Chinese woman married a White man who was way older, he ridiculed the woman so much so, that when she eventually gave birth, he named the child VISA. Because he felt she only married him for papers furthermore she was a mail order bride. MOB. I am not trying to discourage anyone because sometimes you just have to do what you got to do in the name of survival but don't flaunt it in public. Y shouting it out loud " I'm only married to him or her for papers" can get you on the next available flight back to uncertainty. Therefore, keep it on the low low even though I still think it's wrong and hazardous to marry for papers. This guy will bounce back, let's hope so, he might even become a millionaire and come to see that it just was one of those life hurdles but let's pray this doesn't embittered him to turn into one of those 419 boys As for the bride, she should go get a job, the money couldn't have been more than what she could earn in six months Max. To all the few that choose to read, this is the face of reality. That beautiful girl or handsome man might have been married a few times. So, in order to avoid a heart attack, do your homework well. Overseas is good but sometimes trying to go through the back door for comfort has its hazards as you can see from the post. They will survive it's not the end of the world for them at least.

  15. ***Oh what a shame. See ehn, what I have learned all my life after living outside Nigeria for so long is that, more often, in a bid to naturalize in other countries, our Nigerian folks get themselves into more complexed issues than they left Nigeria with. Most times because there are certain criteria that u must follow suit before you qualify to 'marry' their own successfully.

***And the criteria is what our folks try to endure while abroad, thus limiting their personal freedom and happiness in the process. Example, they start to take bogus pictures to prove to the authorities that they are in truly "love", which they tend to over do, and it becomes abnormal and it triggers the registrar. That is for those who only contract and pay a citizen to marry them for papers only. Which am sure was the case with this young man.

****And the other set of people who live in perpetual bondage are the ones who do not contract but lie that they are truly in love with a citizen, but deep down all they want is to get their papers. These are the folks who cannot carry on a genuine relationship outside of the fake union they are trying to build, as they try to hide it from the oyinbo mugu.
******They end up frustrating the genuine partner who has to lay low because of the arrangement. Sometimes the Nigerian men folk who do this may already have a wife or a serious gf back home....

    Continues....

  16. **continued...

...my uncle who lives in Europe is going tru same. He's gotten his papers and all o, but still cannot leave the woman bcos they have a joint acct and business there. She's way older than him by 12years. He's in his early 40s,yet has no child. This woman can't even bear him a child bcos she don reach menopaus. No female takes him serious bcos they are not ready to wait eternity. He's tried to get us to get him a decent girl in Nigeria so he can be coming to visit. But when he eventually finds one, she would not be able to travel to the country he lives bcos of the oyinbo woman who thinks that their marriage is for real. Anything that involves the govt there, they always cross check with his oyinbo 'wife'...so he can't do jack without her. So who is fooling who? Now he's worried that he cannot get enough space for himself to get serious with a woman, let alone get her preggy.

****Same with others. They have to make sure the oyinbo they are leaving with is happy, and at the same time they want to reassure the one back home that all will be well soon so they can live happily ever after. All they do is send money to her at home, as if that will suffice.

**This is why u see most females who'll tell u "my hubby is abroad"..hubby that they never see...while they do runz in Nigeria. And u begin to wonder if they are truly married. And for the unlucky ones, their hubby may start to fall in love with the oyinbo for real, and perhaps start to have kids. Yet, they'll tell u its just for "papers". Meaning, having kids is a part of the drill. Abeg who are u fooling?

*****All I have said and much more are the issues what tend to surround individuals who are desperate to naturalize in other countries. Your life becomes awkward, you'll start to live your life fidgeting bcos you are mindful of the authorities in whichever country u reside. Pls by all means anyone can try to legalize their stay anywhere, but stay away from this marriage sham. Try other legal means, if u succeed, fine. If not, move on abeg!

**make una no vex for my epistle biko. Na as d matter pinch me reach I take talk o

  17. He is working illegally yes but he is paying his taxes and bills last last l in favour of her majesty treasury supporting benefit scroungers, contributing in the building up of their economy innit?
he is not a refugee, asylum seeker nor benefit fraudster sucking from the system, he is not a terror monger or terrorist being protected with public funds by virtue of his human rights inugo?.
Explain to me in plain or even broken inglish what this handsome young man has done to be so humiliated. BUNCH OF RACIST even the one that manage to naturalise or are born there have joined in the hatred of their own.
Its annoying to see a hard-working naija man go down when lazy naija men move around lady to lady seeking to milk them dry. Hard-working naija men are becoming so rare almost extinct
