If they aren't from instagram and photogs are taking her and highlighting her Guiseppe Zanotti and so on, if she doesn't like them she'd ask them not to take those pictures. Not one of them is immune from this nouveau riche attitude.

ReplyDeleteon this blog suggest that this kind of silly display of emptiness is alright makes me know that we as a generation, are heading for doom. How on earth is it ever right (no matter who is doing it), to tweet about acquiring bags running into thousands of dollars to your followers who are mostly living below 1 dollar a day? How on earth is it even sane to 'show off' lodging in the most expensive hotel in a country where most of the citizens cannot feed? That is the height of bad taste and ill-breeding. It is like walking into a fertility clinic and meeting several women trying for babies with no luck for several years and then boasting to them about how you and your family members conceive without even trying hard/how you have so many babies. Does this mean people shouldn't buy what they can afford? No. Does this mean people shouldn't take photos? No. But it is only an extremely silly person that tweets photos of that nature at an audience who are mostly struggling to feed. It is this materialism that makes our leaders loot us blind, the same ailment that make our politicians and even pastors acquire private jets in ridiculous numbers in a society where many can't feed. Ladies and gentlemen, can I announce to those of you who keep saying it is 'her life' that when you are a certain person in the society, you have certain responsibility to assume on how you behave especially on social media? This double-standard, lack of critical thinking of Nigerians is why we are where we are today. If Chika and all the other shallow people are flaunting these expensive acquisitions to our accolades and applause now, if they ever make it to government, what do you imagine they will steal to keep 'wowing' senseless people like some of us Nigerians? It is this same mindset of the masses that fuels the greed of people like Stella Oduah who stole billions. She needs to keep impressing you all with her acquisitions. Shame on those of you who can't think right. How does this lifestyle rub off on our young girls? We mislead them into thinking that all that matters in life to make you a 'diva' is a couple of designer bags. Chika Ike actually tweeted saying these bags where 'things that made her happy'. How does this socialize young, growing girls? I avidly read about Kate Middleton because I (and indeed the world) is totally awed and enamoured of her extremely chic fashion sense, a reputation she garnered not by tweeting expensive bags but by simply buying nice things that fit her body frame. She wears blouses and dresses that cost 70-80 pounds and she still pulls of the look of the princess that she is. She re-rocks her clothes all the time to the applause of fashion critics worldwide. Because it is not all about what you buy but the personality of the wearer and how you wear it. These so-called run-of-the-mill celebs in Nigeria showing off stupid things can't string a couple of complete, meaningful sentences together if they were ever invited to a world-class event where real women who 'trend' by the products of their brains gather. Why did Chika Ike feel the need to do this? Because there were other low-lives before her who had done this to the applause 'zero-thinking-skills' people like we have all over Nigeria. I live in the UK and I certainly don't know of any other world where such madness is celebrated except Nigeria. How do people tweet invoices? Like who cares how much you buy your OWN bag or shoes? It is the height of ratchetness and this behaviour must be called out for what it is.

Cultures, both good and bad are perpetrated by the media. Everyone has a right to enjoy the good life and visit wherever but where sanity should come in is when you feel a need to tweet the brand of your bag or shoe for no other reason than to inform your millions of your poor fans that you have 'arrived'. And for that matter, how a bag, shoe or hotel defines the worth of a person or their class or public perception beats my imagination. Such a damn shame to young people over here saying this behaviour is okay. In sane countries, if people were spending far above their obvious/known incomes, they would be too afraid/ashamed to make it public. So you defending this behaviour...is that because you think that upcoming actresses in Nigeria would normally be able to afford this lifestyle? I don't even care how much money anyone has...legal or illegal, it is just so damn ratchet to do this. We need new role models for our children. We need a generation of more intelligent and more developed women. I want my children to see more of Oprah Winfrey, Alakija, Ezekwesili, Okonjo-Iweala, Chimamanda etc and less of these damn ratchet low lives who parade their idiocy on social media. I am a young Nigerian lady studying for my PhD and what I want to see is inspiring women who have sensible things to give back to the society. I am not just sick of seeing these stupid images, I am sick of the millions of double-standard Nigerians who see nothing wrong in it and yet expect these same vain people to get into government and not steal. You guys grow some!
