Mercy Johnson Okojie is whispered to be the highest paid actress in Nollywood right now.....She supposedly collects N2Million for every movie role she interprets!
I am not saying Mercy is not deserving of being called the highest paid actress,i am just asking what happened to the others before her.
There was a time Genevieve Nnaji was rumoured to be the highest at a fee of N2.5Million, and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and Rita Dominic have also topped the list as highest paid actresses....others have even flaunted their take home pay as being the highest in the movie industry....
So,my take is,if Mercy is the highest paid at the moment,shouldnt she be earning above what the other highest paid actresses earn/earned?
What about the male actors?how come we do not hear which one is the highest paid.?
I think Nollywood needs to let us have an official list of their highest paid actors and actresses so as to avoid according the wrong person with the highest paid title.
If you are in the movie industry and you know who the highest paid is please come and let us know........If it is indeed Mercy then please let us.
The reason i say this is because there are whispers that waka pass acts have infilterated into the movie business and the Nollywood legends we know and see everyday on the red carpet hardly get any movie roles....and if they do get called,they reject the scripts because of the outrageous amount offered them.
I do not believe any Nollywood actor or actress is being paid more than a million naira at the moment to interpret any movie role and i believe those who collect this amount are more than one person...so the title of highest paid belongs to no one at the moment.
Please feel free to correct me if i am wrong with my analysis and right after present your detailed analysis.Thank you.

ReplyDeleteMJ still appears in a lot of home videos while Rita, Genny and Omotola choose their scripts. They have other things going on for them on the side so can't be bothered to be in every movie. They appear more in cinema-standard movies.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that actresses charge based on movie, producer, sponsor, relationship etc. They don't have fixed rates. I doubt very seriously if MJ gets 2mn in every movie. I've head some ridiculously low amounts these actresses get for some movies. The Nollywood industry isn't exactly booming. All these millions being flung all over the social media are for the hype.
I don't know about waka pass actresses infiltrating anything. They can't take the place of established actresses. I for one will not watch any Nollywood movie without an A-lister.

ReplyDeleteTo answer your question on where the other Nollywood actresses are, well, they are no longer acting, they are busy chasing recognition abroad even when they haven't worked for years. They have stopped entertaining their fans, they have abandoned the movie industry and now exist as Nollywood practitioners on the pages of newspapers, magazines, foreign tabloids and blogs.
MJO has no doubt been working, she's ensuring the industry does not die and most definitely deserves to be " highest paid'

ReplyDeletenollywood is at a plateau right now even without the issue of piracy due to so many issues disturbing them amongst which are tribalism,half baked artistes and non professionalism..the only sector which seem to be moving forward are the yoruba and hausa sectors due to their organic,free flowing and original scripts they have room for improvement and they are really improving.
its no coincidence that the so called high and mighty nollywood stars are now rushing to feature in several yoruba movie productions.
if they dont get their acts together soon,i fore see nollywood sinking and an alternative multi layered industry emerging based on the major languages

Grade A super stars like Genny Nnamdi, Omotola and Uche jumbo, who appear on big screen movies are simply in a different class and cannot be compared wt local village girl mercy. Mercy is only good for village girl movies, embecile roles like Dumebi etc. she had me never featured in any big screen movie.

The movies they act or produce are at cinema level and are even being featured in international film festivals. They have gone way above acting Enugu-based movies.
Mercy is good at wat she does, she's d best among her peers and can only get beta. Comparing her to Genevieve n Rita doesn't do her justice.
