“The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful than a thousand heads bowing in prayer.” ― Mahatma GandhI

Dear Friend,
Our babies arrived quite early this January (they were not due till April). They are currently at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Lagoon Hospital, Apapa, as this is the only hospital in Lagos with a neonatal unit that can take preterm babies that young. We have been given an estimated bill of N12M (N6M per baby). So far, we have paid about N3M as a deposit to kick off treatment.

Please Ma/Sir, we need your help to raise funds to save our babies. We will appreciate any help you can render. We do not wish to create a hype by using social media to create a pity party as we believe this is a very delicate period.
We would like for all donations to be paid to the hospital.
*
Our prayers are being answered. The babies are doing a lot better now and the doctors are very optimistic about their development.

we’ve received so far a total of Two Million,Three Hundred and Sixty-One Thousand Naira (NGN 2,361,000.00). There’s still a lot to do… Please don’t relent in your support. We appeal to you to kindly donate and forward to all your contacts to donate as well.

Below are ways to donate to help save Zara & Iva:
1. Pay into the below account opened in the name of baby Iva
Account Name: Iva Oluchi I.
Account No.: 0142730118
Sort Code: 058152379
Bank: Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).

2. Raise a cheque payable to Hygeia Nigeria Ltd with the comment, Miracle Twins Zara & Iva, written on the back of the cheque. All cheques should be dropped off at the Accounts Department of Lagoon Hospital Apapa.

No amount is too little or big to save our children. Do keep praying for Zara & Iva.
Thanks and God bless!
Cheers!

    1. What kind of hospital in their normal mind will make charge 12milliin as hospital bill? Why should they take advantage of this couple?

    2. Best option I ve discovered, is to pay via ATM. Use quickteller. I kn some pple with good intentions may find it tedious searching for the closest GTB. When u re collecting cash, just click in the acct num and tranfer. Hope we get to hear the good outcome.BTW,Can't the hospital discount the bill sef?

    3. This picture looks so familiar. My baby came 13 weeks early(1.2kg) . I will forever be grateful to God and the staff at St Nicholas Hospital.took care of her like she was their own. We went through a lot. Lagoon Hospital isnt the only hospital with a good NICU and 12m sounds like a whole lot. may God keep them safe and well.

  6. What is wrong with our nation? It's unbelievable that the only NICU is private. My son was born early and sent to NICU here in the UK. Everything was given to is free of charge and when he was discharged we walked away without paying a dime. Apart from the fact that our politicians are corrupt, it seems they lack common sense to do what is right. At least you guys travel abroad and see things, why can't you start by replicating these things, no matter how small. How can the citizen if any nation have to raise about 12 million so their children can survive. How much will they use to take care of the kids? I can go on and on but let me stop ranting and give my widow's mite, I am so pained.

    1. @ Jimcateringservices, dts not true u kn. There are other NICU in Lagos. In fact, in Luth and Lasuth. 6million per baby sounds ridiculous to me bt nonetheless, I will support the family. The twins will survive as God liveth.

    2. My twin and I came 12 weeks early in 1979, and we stayed in the NICU at Mercy children hospital which is a state hospital ...its probably run down now but I doubt if only one hospital in lagos has NCIU

  10. What??? 12million? For what biko nu? Are they giving these kids new organs? Is it for fueling the generator for d period? Omg! I'm sooo upset right now! How do you heap this kind of bill on new parents of twins? Even the hospital should use this as CSR and cut this unrealistic bill by half!
    Geez!
Anyway... let me donate n go bck to sleep.

  11. @Jimcatering services.not all countries have the UK's health care system.i had my 25 weeker in the US and her bill was about $300,000.thank God for insurance. The first step is to make facilities work!after that,we can think of other things.let there be services for what we pay for first and we can start fighting for free health care....

  23. My sister inlaw had her baby January last year also in Lagoon Hospital Ikeja, 2mths earlier than the due date and we were asked to deposit 2m as soon as he was delivered. Within 3 days he had 2cardiac arrests, friends and family then advised us to transfer the baby to Lagos Teaching Hosp, Ikeja. We were sceptical at first, it being a General hospital, but I must commend Gov Fashola on this one, they have an NICU unit on d 3rd floor and had over 50incubators, as against just 2 that lagoon had, I even saw pre-term babies as little as 4mths. Unfortunately our baby died 2 days on arriving general hosp because it was already too late. This will not be baby Iva and Zara's case in JESUS NAME. I'd advise you to go check out the place and I guarantee you won't even spend up to five hundred thousand in the next 2 or 3mths the babies are expected to be there. Godbless.

  32. Stella thank you very much for posting this. I was the one who sent the email. I agree there are other hospitals in Lagos with incubators to cater for preterm babies. However, the twins came at 27 weeks and the only way for them to survive was for them to be put in a VENTILATOR first(which only Lagoon has). The twins stayed in a ventilator for a while before moving into an incubator. That's what made them go to Lagoon. Thanks to you all for your prayers and donations. God bless you

    1. My Sis had hers at 28wks, she was charged 1.2m the baby is now chubby, hale and hearty. 12m is way too outrageous!!! Anyways, may God grant them speedy recovery.

    2. I think we should stop being ignorant and know that the level of neonatal care required depends on the weight of the babies. These babies were 600grams (BW). Anyways, I think you should let your sister come and make her comment because there's no way she could have been charged 1.2m. Neonatal Doc

  33. @Anon February 12, 2014 at 5:47 PM, Lagoon doesn't have 2 incubators, neither does the Lagos State Teaching Hospital have50!!! Please get your facts right! I had my child at 26.4 weeks and had to be rushed to Lagoon. You know why? Because Lagoon is the only NICU that has a ventilator. They have 2 ventilators. Ventilators are not incubators. The least you can do is get your facts right. And guess what else... My bill at the end of the day was NGN6.2m for just one baby. If they were in the UK they'd probably be paying 2k quid per day for the 12-14weeks the babies would be in NICU!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Err, for those that may not know, these babies were born at 600grams. Lagoon is the only place that does babies that small cuz only them have ventilators and they only have 2! There are NICUs and there are NICUs. Only other place that compares to Lagoon is the Delta State University Teaching Hospital. I'm a Neonatologist so I know!!! P.S., I work for the Lagos State Taching Hospital and we do not have 50 incubators! If anything, we have been clamouring for at least 2 ventilators because we lose babies that are less than 800grams.

    1. Jesus ! I am shaking reading this . How much is a ventilator ? Babies are dying. OMG. Can we start a campaign to equip general hospitals for pre-term babies. I am so pained because my 2 kids were born early and got the best possible care. Babies born after 24 weeks should have a good chance of survival.

  36. Wow! I'm actually impressed by the parents. They were quite honest cuz they said "estimated bill". Am not the ony one that saw that surely??? Anyways, I'll do my bit and pray for the twins. I also pray the bill doesn't grow to the estimated 12m or over it so they can at least cope.

  37. I have been married for 4 years and struggling to have a baby. Early miscarriages et al. Got pregnant in July last yr. planned to leave for the u.s for the birth. Unfortunately, went into preterm labour mid Dec- at 25wks. Baby was rushed to the lagoon hosp from Reddignton hosp. He passed away the following day. This is so touching and dear to my heart. It is well. The babies will be fine- God willing.
