A woman, Mrs. Ita Okokon, aka, Eka Isaac, at Atai Obio Offot, Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, has killed her 15-year-old son, Isaac Okokon, after a minor disagreement.
Isaac, an SSS II pupil of Offot Ukwa Secondary School, Obiofot, Uyo, was said to have died on Friday following a machete injury his mother inflicted on him.
A neighbour, Miss Ekaette Effiong said that when the mother beat Isaac, he retaliated instead of running away as a sign of respect.
Effiong added that Isaac hit his mother so hard that the woman fell to the ground.
“When Isaac hit his mother that hard, the woman felt humiliated. When she got up, she went inside the house and brought out the machete. She chased her son with the machete, but when she could not get him, she threw the machete at him, which cut through his body,”
Effiong stated that neighbours, friends, relatives, and the mother rushed Isaac to a hospital where he died.
The mother was said to have fled Atai Obio Offot when she discovered that Isaac had died.
All attempts to reach out to Isaac’s father or other relatives proved abortive. Other tenants in the house where they live also refused to speak with our correspondent on the issue.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, Mr. Etim Dickson, confirmed the incident.
He said the police had yet to uncover the whereabouts of the woman.
He said, “For now nobody has given us information about the whereabouts of the woman. We have sent in some detectives around the area to look for possible clues that can lead to the arrest of the woman.” -punch
i wonder how people who end the lives of children they carried for 9months feel....a lot of pain i guess.

ReplyDeleteIt's a complex situation because, obviously she was angered but wouldn't want her son dead. At least not by her. Some kids can make one lose his/her salvation if care isn't taken. Cos extreme cases like this one will allow pple question ur ability as a parent. For all u care she may av been the best mom, but with this situation no one will see or know that anymore. This child in his grave has succeeded in ruining his mother for life. She may end up going nutters or even comit suicide bcos of d eternal guilt and what pple will say of her.
DeleteRemember the young boy in England that killed his own mother recently because she preaches Christ to him always, and he felt she was invasive. And the only thing that came to mind was to eliminate ur own mother? When he could have moved out of her house o. But now she's dead, and there's no question that she must have been a very good mother. From her pics and the little we were told, she's a responsible woman..now this is almost the same case.
May we not bear forth children that will kill us or make us non entities o.

ReplyDeleteSome children can provoke someone. Children of these days want to fight their parents. Most people who turn out to be victims provoked the persons that afflicted them. The kind of things my nephew for instance does to my mum who is his grand mum (he lives with her), are things that could make you hate him forever or even inflict him injuries if you don't hold your peace. Life is very complicated. Some people can't just tolerate a child's disobedience especially if you have sacrificed much for that child. So, pls, I don't blame the angered mum who must have reacted to accumulated anger and didn't know how to manage it. Some kids are just evil. Only God can change them. That's my opinion. ...and I don't encourage violence.

ReplyDeleteOh! What a world? 'Had I known' is always the phrase after brutal actions. Had I known, I wouldn't have grabbed the knief! Had I known I wouldn't have hit him so had! Had I known, had I known here and there, why didn't you control your anger in the first place? Anger is a very strong weapon the devil initiates into one when he wants to destroy people, peope need to be careful.

Anger! Anger!! It never helps any situation, only adds to it. I feel for the mother though, just can't Imagine how she will live with this for the rest of her life whether they find her or not. If only the boy ran away instead of retaliating, if only.... oh! RIP to the dead. My God help us all.
