News On Thursday - As Bright As Rukky Sanda.

The Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu said, yesterday, that contrary to media reports, the Federal Government has not sacked any doctor under its employ.
Professor Onyebuchi told State House correspondents that what the government did was the suspension of the residency programme in federal hospitals.
It would be recalled that the Ministry of Health in a press release by its Deputy Director of Press, Alhaji Isiaka Yusuf, said last week that it had to do so after exploring all avenues to end the Nigerian Medical Association’s  strike, which it said had compounded the health crisis in the country.
The Nigeria Medical Association, NMA,  had directed its members nationwide to go on strike on July 1.

AGAINST the backdrop of the spread of the Ebola disease, the Edo State Government has inaugurated a Rapid Response Committee that would be responsible for the control, monitoring and surveillance of the disease.
The committee is coming on the heels on the disclosure by the Edo State Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Professor Afekhide Omoti’s disclosure that a large number of medical doctors in the state have volunteered to offer themselves for the treatment of cases if there was any outbreak.
He, however, sought for life insurance for all heath workers that would be involved in the treatment of Ebola cases.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aihanuwa Eregie, who inaugurated the committee in Benin, said that the state government was taking a proactive action in the event of any reported outbreak of the disease in the state, adding that it had commenced the training of all medical personnel both in the public and private sectors

A laboratory technician, Modupe Ajayi, on Wednesday told an Igando Customary Court, Lagos, that she once caught her husband in bed with her best friend.
Modupe, 40, was responding to Ajayi’s petition, urging the court to dissolve his 12 years marriage for alleged threat to life and lack of respect from the respondent.
“My husband is a shameless man. He slept with my best friend. My husband is a womaniser, I caught him making love to my best friend in her house.
“I refused to employ any house help again as he has turned them into sex machine”, the News Agency of Nigeria quoted Modupe as telling the court. She said that she stopped having sex with Ajayi, 50, since September because “I always had sexual infection some days after he made love to me.I stopped making love to him and I stopped washing his clothes when I discovered that I always see and smell sperm on his boxers,” she said.
The mother of three said that days after their wedding, her husband abandoned her to stay with another woman after telling her that he wanted to travel to the village to see his father.
“I called his father when he did not show up for days, but his father told me that he did not see my husband.”Modupe said that she later found telephone number of the lady in question in her husband’s handset and she called her to leave her husband alone.
“After the warning, my husband rushed home, dragged me naked out of the bathroom, beat me up for calling his girlfriend. It was my brother-in-law that ran out to cover my nakedness.’’The respondent, therefore, urged the court to grant her husband’s petition, saying that she was no longer interested in the marriage. The petitioner had told the court that his wife always threatened his life with dangerous weapons.“Whenever we are fighting she always picks up knife or other sharp objects to stab me”, he said...He described Modupe as a pompous, disrespectful and arrogant woman.

Two Nigerian men, who health officials believed to be infected with the deadly Ebola virus, were discharged from a Ho Chi Minh City hospital on Tuesday evening. It is the latest instance of an ever-widening, and disturbing story, of a trend targeting Nigerian nationals, and other Africans, who have symptoms of an illness to which health officials overreact.
The two unidentified men are university students studying in Vietnam. They were taken in for observation, and isolated by Vietnamese health officials late Monday. The story was first reported on-line in the Ho Chi Minh City-based Thanh Nien News.
They were later discharged from the hospital, as health officials found that while they may have had a fever, likely from a cold, no Ebola-like symptoms were discovered, said the Vietnamese Health Ministry’s spokesman.

Ekiti State Governor-elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, and the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo, yesterday locked horns over the debt profile of the state.Fayose had expressed concern over the state’s debt profile, while setting up a nine-man transition committee to do underground work for his smooth takeoff on October 16.He described the debt profile of the state under Governor Kayode Fayemi, as worrisome.Fayose also warned those with political ambition in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 against name-dropping, saying nobody in the party had been chosen for any appointment, except two people he promised to give on concessional grounds.Inaugurating the committee at the Spotless Hotel, Ado-Ekiti, Fayose regretted that Fayemi’s government had allegedly plunged the state into huge debt to the extent that members of the public would have to be sensitised about the situation on ground, because of high expectations from his soon-to-be-sworn-in government. He warned the members of the committee against turning their positions into political appointments, saying: “You are to work with the government team when it is constituted for fact-finding mission about the state of things in the state.”
