''University degree or no degree, the phonetics on Nollywood movies is still very,very atrocious. It should be an arrestable offence (punishable by life imprisonment) for any Nollywood actor/actress that did not school in United Kingdom to have a British accent. Polluting the atmosphere with fake accent is criminal :)
SaharaTV crew caught up with Nollywood actor and director, Ramsey Nouah on the set of a movie shoot in Lagos.
During this interview, he spoke about a range of issues including piracy; conflicts in the Actors' guild; politics; his niche as" Lover-boy" character; controversy about his father and his educational background.
*For someone without a University degree,he is well put together.I guess he got lucky,Nigeria of now doesnt even give University graduates a chance to harness their potentials,talk less of someone not having one at all.

DeleteUniversity does not put food on the table. God and being smart does. There was a time in univeristy I told my mum I wanted to drop out cus I wanted 2 pursue my passion.cus I checked the list of successful people majority of them didn't go 2 university. They just had the basic like they stopped at high school level.
Delete2day my degree is under my box. I love my business so much that I can't choose to work. And I aint willing to do masters either. Waste of one year 4 me.

Funny enough, speaking phonetics has nothing to do with being educated. U can be gbagaun-ing with phonetics or British accent o. So if u like twist ur tongue it doesn't mean jack.

ReplyDeleteTruly education is a waste of time in this country...You look for jobs endlessly for years without no luck! Unemployment benefits is not in the government's dictionary and worst of all,an adult will still be living off their parents! The years spent or rather wasted in university would have been spent learning a trade..God save Nigeria!!

DeleteRamsey doesn't have a university degree, but he speaks and acts better than most of d actors in nollywood with the possible exeption of veterans like Olu Jacobs, RMD and Zack Orji coz they R in a class of their own. Asides them, Ramsey to me is Nollywood's best actor of all times. He interpretes his roles very well and he has shown his vasatility over time. Or is it pple like Oc Ukeje, Mike Ezuruonye and co with d so called degrees dt some1 would tell me dt they act better than Ramsey? KMT

Aunty stella one's spoken English has nothing to do wit his/her university education. The grooming strts frm primary to sec education. Havnt u seen graduates dat their English is like tornado? There are lots of dem out dr. Once u attend a gud primary/sec sch, u r gud to go. University education na jes qualification to use gt beter job. No lecturer teaches u use of English lang. ReplyDelete3sha leave old memories jare. Nollywood people and journalists really combed that zone well. (Mbah street, via Tafawa Balewa crescent, via Adeniran Ogunsanya. Majority of these celebrities were seriously trekking then. Wonder where all these accents came into the acting. Ramsey used to speak only pidgin back then in Ebute Metta (Evans square things? ). Now the grammar. Na die. Dude didn't get a degree cos of tight family circumstances. But God is faithful. He compensated him well enough.

ReplyDeleteBeing able to speak with different accents (ON SET) is part of acting. A number of successful Hollywood actors didn't go to the university too.
