India girl marries dog to ward off evil spirits

In a remote part of India, young Mangli Munda is marrying a stray dog  to fight off evil spirits that her family believes she has.
The dog was found by the woman’s father. The big wedding was taken care of by the 18-year-old’s parents, to the dismay of the wife-to-be. Munda wasn’t pleased with her parents’ selection of a groom, saying, “I am not happy with this marriage.”
If you think Munda’s father was solely to blame for this unusual arrangement, he wasn’t. Munda’s mother was adamant about the need for her daughter to get hitched to the hound named Sheru. The pooch even arrived stylin’ and profilin’ as most grooms often do — chauffeured in a car. Munda’s mother mentioned, “We have to spend money on this wedding. That is the only way we can get rid of her bad luck and ensure the benevolence of the village.”
But Munda won’t have to love and honor her husband all the days of her life. The relationship isn’t legally binding, which will probably keep this bride from going barking mad.
In this remote village in the eastern state of Jharkhand, the ceremony isn’t unheard of. It’s just a tradition meant to ensure the longevity of a couple’s marriage when Munda is eventually married to a human groom. And, hopefully, her next husband won’t turn out to be a dog.

Former Governor of Borno State Senator Modu Ali Sheriff, said yesterday that he is ready to face any panel looking into allegations linking him with Boko Haram, to clear his name.
He also said he would sue the Australian negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis, who accused him of being one of the sponsors of Boko Haram.
Sheriff said he had never associated with any terrorist group, including Boko Haram.
He spoke at a news briefing in Abuja against the backdrop of the call for his trial by the International Crimes Commission (ICC).
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday demanded the trial of Sheriff; a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika and other sponsors of Boko Haram.
The ex-governor, who downed two cups of water before addressing reporters, said his invitation by the Department of State Security (DSS) last year had nothing to do with Boko Haram.
He said: “I am prepared to face any panel. I stand to be corrected
“I have not associated myself with any terrorist group all over the world. I did not even meet the leader of the sect, the late Mohammed Yusuf, until he was arrested by the military under the command of Gen. Sales Maina. I have never met Yusuf, I did not know him and I could not have sponsored somebody I never met.
“If Gen. Jerry Useni has said he needs to avail the evidence to Nigerians, let him give his evidence. I am prepared to face any panel in the world. If people are deliberately writing for their personal reasons, they are at liberty, there is freedom of speech. So they can write.
“Therefore I will not join issues with anybody. I stand to be corrected, Yusuf was never brought to my office. He was captured by the military, And I was asked to come because I was somebody who was in a position to speak because I was the governor then.”
Sheriff vowed to take legal action against the Australian negotiator,  who accused him of being behind Boko Haram.
“I have already asked my lawyers to sue the faceless Australian. We have written to track him everywhere. I will sue the Australian if he ever existed. The right thing is to sue the Australian.
“I will sue the Australian since it was his report he (Odigie-Oyegun) quoted from. I will sue him wherever he may be. Listen to his press interview. First, he said he was hired by the Federal Government. Secondly he said my government was corrupt and I should be prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and thirdly he said APC is not Boko Haram.
He added: “It is instructive to point out that I had been one of the greatest victims of the atrocities of the Boko Haram sect. As the executive governor of the state at that time, I did not abdicate my responsibilities of protecting the lives and property of the people and did not give them any breathing space to operate outside the law of the land.
“Because of this, they were driven by a desire for vengeance against me, my family and my political associates. From the number of casualties among my relations and political associates, it is evident that I suffered personal losses from the crisis.
“Among those killed in cold blood were my younger brother, the late Alhaji Goni Mustapha Sheriff, the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) state chairman and my brother in-law, the late Alhaji Awana Ngala, the governorship candidate of our party in the 2011 general elections, the late Modu Fannami Gubio, my friends- Alhaji Mustapha Fulawama, Bukar Goni Kol and a host of other close political associates. May their gentle souls rest in peace.

A researcher has predicted that the number of cases of the EVD may reach 100,000 by December 2014. Last week, the World Health Organisation estimated that the number of cases could ultimately exceed 20,000.
“If the epidemic in Liberia were to continue in this way until the first of December, the cumulative number of cases would exceed 100,000,” the researcher predicted, according to a model that Ghana, the United Kingdom, and the United States are among the countries most likely to have an introduced case.

Late PH Doctor's sister tests positive

The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, has put the total number of confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria at 18. The 18th patient, according to the Federal Government, is the sister of the late Port Harcourt doctor who died of the EVD recently.

A statement issued on Wednesday night by his Special Assistant (Media and Communication), Mr. Dan Nwomeh, said the number of cases successfully managed and discharged was eight while the number of deaths from EVD was seven.
Chukwu also debunked rumours of EVD cases outside Lagos and Port Harcourt, adding that, “regarding the rumoured case in Zaria, the blood sample has been sent for Ebola testing.”
“The last case to be discharged, the first secondary contact to be diagnosed and a spouse of a primary contact of the index case, went home from the isolation ward in Lagos yesterday (Tuesday). The 9th survivor is the ECOWAS Commission official, who jumped surveillance in Lagos and travelled to Port Harcourt, where he infected the doctor who attended to him.

“The total number of deaths from Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria is now seven. One, the index case occurred in a private hospital in Lagos four in the Lagos isolation ward; one in the Port Harcourt isolation ward (the female patient who was on admission in the same hospital where the late Port Harcourt doctor was also admitted), while another one was the doctor who was infected by the ECOWAS Commission official in Port Harcourt and who did not come under the care and management of the Incident Management Committee.

The Federal Government has been implored to urgently recall the over 10,000 Nigerian soldiers alleged to have been unjustly dismissed from the military since 1979 to assist in combating the rising insurgency in parts of the country.
The affected former soldiers, in a letter, also appealed to the National Security Council to look into the issues leading to their dismissal and temper justice with mercy by recalling them into the service, saying they had much to offer in the security sector.
According to the letter, the officers were trained in Nigerian Army Drill School, Zaria and other military institutions after which they were dismissed from service.

Governor  Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State  has dissociated himself from the arraignment of an Okada rider, Wasiu Ogunnoiki,  at the Sagamu Magistrate Court 1 and his subsequent remanding  in a prison custody for alleged publications on facebook.
A Magistrate court 1 sitting in Sagamu, had on Tuesday, heard the case of Mr Wasiu Ogunnoiki (31) who was arraigned before it for engaging in an acts capable of denting the image of the governor on the facebook.
He was accused of engaging in acts that contravened Section 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, volume II Laws of Ogun state 2006 by publishing on his facebook account that Governor Amosun demolished houses in the state without compensating affected property owners and in manners that could incite the citizens against the Governor.
But on Wednesday, Amosun said he could not find a single correlation between the offence for which Ogunnoiki was charged and what he was  alleged to have done.
He directed the state’s Ministry of Justice to look into matter and ensure that the man’s fundamental human rights are not further infringed upon.
In a statement issued by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mrs Abimbola Akeredolu, Amosun noted that while his administration does not want to encourage indiscipline and abuse of rights, it will also not tolerate the infringement of rights of any citizen.

Niger Delta women support Jonathan's approach to the rescue if the Chibok girls.
WOMEN from the Niger Delta, have warned that those advocating the declaration of full-blown war by President Goodluck Jonathan in the search for  abducted school girls from Chibok, Borno State are mischief makers, who want a massacre that will tarnish the image of the president ahead of the 2015 presidential election.
The women, under the aegis of Goodluck For Transformation, led by its National President, Mrs Evelyn Omokhodion, urged President Jonathan to disregard what they described as blackmail against his administration and declare his intention for the 2015 presidential election.
Omokhodion, a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State, noted that the country has been united despite the insurgency was an indication that Jonathan was well qualified to lead the nation for another term.
Addressing women during a pro-Jonathan rally in Benin City, she said Nigerians should commend the president for applying wisdom in the search for the Chibok girls, adding that the use of full force would have resulted in the killing of the girls.

Mixed reactions trail Amaechi’s N50bn loan

Reactions are beginning to trail the recent fifty two billion naira loan approved by the Rivers State House of Assembly for the State Government.
Port Harcourt based legal practitioner and social analyst, Kennedy Amos said the criticisms against members of the assembly for approving the loan was uncalled for.
Amos also noted that Governor Amaechi made the right move by following the rule of law, adding that the loan would be utilised for the interest of the people.
According to Amos, “under the appropriation act, the Rivers State House of Assembly has the powers to make such appropriation for the executive arm of government.
“We have seasoned lawmakers and they are sons and daughters of this state, if they did not see any merit from the proposal of the executive arm of government, they would not have approved it.
“The Governor, knowing that he cannot appropriate such funds by himself, has gone to the right forum. After all, he needs the money to finance the various projects this administration has embarked upon”.

On his part, Assistant Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Sam Wonosike told DailyPost that the debt profile of the Rivers State Government had drastically increased since the inception of this administration.

Dangote Cement Plc, yesterday, predicted sharp drop in local cement prices by 300 percent from next month.
The company said this will be made possible by the supply of an additional nine million metric tons into the market from its factories at Ibese and Obajana.
Also the cement giant is coming out with its own brand of 32.5 grade cement in the next seven days.
Devakumar Edwin, Group Managing Director, Dangote Cement, told journalists in Lagos that the company is currently reviewing the selling prices of its products with intent to reduce them and make the products available with the recent commissioning of additional six million metric tons per annum lines 3 and 4 in Ibese, Ogun state and another three million metric ton capacity additional line 4 at Obajana, Kogi State.
On why they are adding 32.5 cement grade to existing products, he explained that it was in response to popular demand from the customers as well as in full compliance with the SON directive encouraging production of all grades of cement but with clear labeling on the use.

IN HOUSE NEWS

KATE said...
Dear BVS this is my story. Stella, you can make this into a post for everyone to read and take heed lest they...

Sometime ago, I was very broke and I had to go for runs with a top well-paying Northern governor (I can't mention his name cos you all know him. Biko don't judge me.....i know it's wrong but I had to do it to make ends meet). I had to fuck this man without a condom all the times we met until the relationship ended. Everytime we did it, I thought I was going to die cos inasmuch as I needed the money, my greatest fear was getting pregnant and worse still, infected.

Fast forward to some months after the whole episode, I was a nervous wreck cos I was sure I had contracted something. I couldn't sleep. I couldn't eat. I kept wondering if the money was worth it.

I dragged myself to a do the dreaded HIV test. Waiting for the result was the darkest wait of my life! I promised to expose every man I had ever slept with if I had gotten infected with HIV (I wasn't scared of being assassinated cos I thought I was going to die anyway).

The results came out and voila! I was Negative! I had never felt such joy ever in my life! There and then, I swore never ever to take such a risk again! For hours, I just sat outside watching the people pass me by so full of life compared to the weak, sickly people I saw inside the centre.......
My people, choose today what kind of future you want for yourself: Positive or Negative. I know people who have died from this and inasmuch as there are people living normal lives with HIV, it is still better to be safe than sorry.
This is my story. I have learned my lesson.
God bless you all.
Kate

-. ''Sdk, I saw Nuella and Tchidi Chikere 2 evenings ago enroute Paris. They were looking very good together and carried themselves properly. I was waiting to see 'I'm a celebrity' behaviour but there was none. Tchidi was simply dressed in a t-shirt and jeans while Nuella wore a pink long sleeve top, blue jeans and a black DKNY handbag. Their suitcases were of Gucci product. And by the way, Nuella is pregnant, about 6 months gone.''....thanks olofofo blog visitor.lol

Fingering him as BH sponsor can attract so much enemies towards him and his relatives. He can swing to depression, lose all he ever worked for. It's not funny at all. This matter wasn't handled appropriately and he can sue them for libel if he's innocent. I feel sorry for him.
