Lagos State And How Trains Are Boarded.....Shocking.

This recording was sent to me by a blog visitor who witnessed this live!

OMG OMG OMG!

This is pathetic and demands the attention of the relevant authority before people are killed in dozens.

''I was on a queue to board a BRT bus at Oshodi on my way from work when
the train made a stop at the Oshodu stop. The scene is something I
am actually used to but I thought i could make this video.

When the first train with ticket fee of N150 arrives, those who can't
afford to pay the charge of N750 the next and more comfortable train
charges, take the risk of getting on top the train, risking their lives
cos the train is filled while some who ignorantly want to avoid paying
N150 and no one actually stops it. (I mean who dares tell an Oshodi

boy from boarding a train however he wants it)...SMH!''

How can people stand on moving trains when its not a horror movie.

*Sorry for the gbagauns oh,most of it is from my mac.It is originally in German language which i changed to English, sometimes it directly translates and auto corrects and I dont see that till you people DRAG MY attention to it.Thank you.

No regards for their own safety.

  4. The video boy sounds really annoying and the girl sounds like a mosquito you just want to squash so it can stop making noise in your ear.
Ots a normal thing in oshodi, the government had stopped it but nigerians would never listen. It stopped for awhile but they've started again

I actually liked the guy that did the video, he sounds like a homie- someone who can make you laugh.
The girl really does sound like a mosquito- I might have gotten mad at her, lol.

  6. Living in Lagos sometimes can be likened to living in a jungle, its hustle, everyday hustle. Scenes like this are not new or shocking, we see worse than this on a daily basis. I am sure the sender is still a learner in Lagos. That's Lagos life, to the sender, I say "welcome to Lagos" the home of hustle and hustlers.

The govt should then try and reduce the price of the expensive one then .
Maybe it might reduce this risk of transporting on top a moving train.

  9. Stella, no be today.

Some months ago, at yaba, a young man tried to board a moving train.
    He paid with his life.

  11. Your caption is wrong.it has nothing to do with Lagos state.did the state board the train?Nigerians are dishonest, ignorant and we are very irresponsible.
maybe if a few fall off and her smashed, others will desist from this.i remember when bus conductors used to hang from the door frames despite several warnings etc, pity

  15. @ Poster, thank ur star any of the boys didn't notice U. A lot of people who tried to snap or video them got wounded and their phones stolen. Of recent, a Radio reporter lost his life while trying to escape from the guys who noticed him and jumped down from the train which was still moving slowly around Ikeja. The poor reporter hurriedly crossed the express road and was knocked down by a car. He died at the hospital few hours later. This is 'no dem say jist'. It was announced on the radio about a month ago.

Stellahipsy, what do U expect the authorities to do? Some souls are just reckless. They don't value their lives at all. I value my life so much that am even scared of death itself not to talk of trying any death-related stuffs like this. Maybe ur blog will make Governor Fashola do something about it this time around. It is only God that can save Nigeria.

  30. The guy recording sounds so much like d nigerian Tayo presently in the Bigbrother house.
back to the matter:inasmuch as our govt seem to try their best sometimes, all they end up giving us are Greek gifts',#rme#cos for crying out loud I think d fare is quite expensive for God's sakes!trains in developed countries are the cheapest and easiest means of transport.how much did an oshodi hustler get for d whole day dat u will expect him to pay 150/750 naira for fare?wont he eat and feed his family?these pple have to survive and I don't blame them.what d govt should do is to reduce d fare and increase d train stations, btw our country is rich enuf for us to board a train at 5naira,yes!or even free!

    1. Sorry but that's incorrect. Trains are meant to be a sort of premium mode of travel. In New York and London travel by train can range from N350 -N2000 on the Metro/underground which are less cushy than the over ground services.

It's not sustainable to give people free travel. Yes we have enough money now but what happens if money suddenly has to be diverted elsewhere. It makes sense to have a low price (yes 100-150 is low enough) that can be kept for a long time than giving free travel to people who abuse things that they've paid for let alone things they get for free.

  33. Honestly, do we need the govt to tell fully grown adults that climbing on top a moving train is very dangerous I mean come on. Even if one person falls off they will still do the same nonsense the next day..ppl want to lose their lives cos of 150 naira....wetin person no go hear for this our country.. Na wa.

I keep saying the major problem in Nigeria is good education. That's the real difference between oyibos and us, in terms of mannerism. If you are an educated person, then you must have a problem risking your life like this. At least u will sit in the train. Gosh!
Take these same people to a sane environment, see how they will act accordingly. I really don't know where to start tackling naija issues from!

  38. Nothing surprising about this. It happens everywhere there is rampant poverty. I have seen it on CNN - illegal immigrants moving from Mexico to the US (yes! sitting on top of trains, some even laying down), India, Bangladesh, Pakistan etc. So, sorry to burst your bubble but its NOT ONLY IN NIGERIA.

  39. Was that a train station with platform for passengers to enter or exit on a journey?

The train management have failed in their duty of care to ensure safeguarding their customers security, safety and therefore negligence in carrying out their responsibility to the public transportation.

The driver of the train breached health and safety of the passengers and therefore is facing manslaughter in the case of accidental loss of life from the video footage.

Please ensure this video footage is handed over to the appropriate authorities to ensure a swift and robust actions are put in place to stop another accidental carnage in the future. This is a near miss and luckily nothing dangerous happened.
