Nigeria And Boko Haram 'Agree Ceasefire And Girls' Release'

According to BBC Nigeria's military says it has agreed a ceasefire with Islamist militants Boko Haram - and that the schoolgirls the group has abducted will be released.
Nigeria's chief of defence staff, Alex Badeh, announced the truce. Boko Haram has not made a public statement.

The group has been fighting an insurgency since 2009, with some 2,000 civilians reportedly killed this year.

Boko Haram sparked global outrage six months ago by abducting more than 200 schoolgirls.
The girls were seized in the north-eastern town of Chibok in Borno state, and their continued captivity has led to criticism of the Nigerian government's efforts to secure their release.
Members of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign said in a tweet on Friday: "We are monitoring the news with huge expectations."

Air Chief Marshal Badeh revealed the truce at the close of a three-day security meeting between Nigeria and Cameroon. He said Nigerian soldiers would comply with the agreement.

Nigerian presidential aide Hassan Tukur told BBC Focus on Africa that the agreement was sealed after a month of negotiations, mediated by Chad.
As part of the talks, a government delegation twice met representatives of the Islamist group.
Mr Tukur said Boko Haram had announced a unilateral ceasefire on Thursday and the government had responded.

"They've assured us they have the girls and they will release them," he said. "I am cautiously optimistic."
He said arrangements for their release would be finalised at another meeting next week in Chad's capital, Ndjamena.

The negotiations are said to have the blessing of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, reports the BBC's Chris Ewokor in Abuja.

    4. From the quality of your expression, it's tempting to think you have cotton wool between your ears. Desist from seeing this thru an "us vs them" prism and do some objective thinking. I'm sure you'll also absolve Oyedepo of any blame. And if you're offered a trip to the UK now, you'll jump at it. Pple think there and they know a scam when they see one.

  3. Only God knows why this sect is playing us and the government!
One thing I know for sure is this:If it was within the powers of GEJ to go into that place and bring back those alledgedy missing girls,he would have done it!
Terrorism expecially with a faceless group like this is the worse thing that can happen to any nation, especially a growing nation like ours!
I will not fail to commend the Nigerian military for the relentless battle they have fought thus far!
May the soul of the faithful departed rest in peace! Long live Gej! May God continue to guide you Sir! You are indeed a great man for not buckling under this pressure!

    1. Iphie dearie, are u sure it's not d government and bokoharam rather playing us and not as u stated?
They decide on a ceasefire suddenly cos election is near, after they have spent over 15bill in so called acquisition of arms, diverting other billions to security(dat never came den) and after they have successfully put in those monies safely in their closets, bokoharam decided to ceasefire?such a wonderful divine coincidence#rme#some one may ask that pple died so it's real,no I doubt becos in every of such power quest world over, there must be a carnage!some pple have to be d casualties!its always blood in exchange for power!so?this whole sh#t might just be a beautiful script!may d souls of the departed rest in peace, and as for Chibok gals???....there might never have been any!

    2. I expected people to query those that negotiated with the federal govt on behalf of the BH insurgents. How did they meet to reach a consensus or whatever?

Who is their spokesman? Chad mediated quite alright according to the news here, but with whom? 'faceless' terrorists negotiate through a medium as is done worldwide. Later on if the govt affected wishes to bring them to book, they do so tru forensics..voice, fingerprints, tracing of calls, etc. Please what's the modus that our govt wishes to use to stop BH if at all?

Or is the plan to receive the girls and everyone will go their separate ways? The only thing I wish for the Jonathan administration to accomplish in the next dispensation is for the capture and seizure of the BH terrorists. Any thing short of this would be a monumental failure of his administration, considering that it was during his tenure that they became conspicuously active in their terrorism.

GEJ should take a cue from Obama. When Obama was sworn in, one of his aim was to capture bin Laden and it was achieved. It will go down history that Obama achieved that in his tenure. GEJ can achieve same. That's all..
