Doctors In House Section On Tuesday.

''You imagine that my lecturer asked me about it in front of the entire class and was like "Are you a Sickler" Mtcheew...

''Hello Stella ‎trust you're great and the tooth ache is better, I'm a BV, always on your blog but comment as anonymous cause I can't get to change my Google name, anyway let me go straight to the point.

I was born with the SS genotype, everyone should know what it means being in that condition, I'm actually a final year student, God has really seen me through some tough times so I won't complain, I want to ask the doctors in the house if there's any solution to jaundice of the eyes, my eyes are really yellow and sometimes freaking scary.

It fluctuates to lighter shades of yellow though but it's quite annoying and frustrating can you imagine that my lecturer asked me about it in front of the entire class and was like "are you a sickler" Mtcheew...

I'd like to know from the doctors if there's any therapy for the jaundice cause folic acid doesn't seem to help and I'm not a drug person, all those blood syrups don't either plus they really taste bloody and I'm not a vampire so I don't take them. LMAOOO

May seem like I'm not serious and joking with my life like my mother will say but I believe that since the challenges haven't killed me all these while, it can't anymore and what keeps me going is the word of God that says "He'll never give me more than what I can bear".
Thanks people, God bless you all.

More questions coming soon if I get good opinions.

OK,Please post the more questions in the comment section you hear honey?

      Tip 2:
Boil 1 cup of water, when it boils add 8-10 lemon
leaves. Cover and leave for 4-5 minutes. Drink the
      decoction for 4-5 days.

      Tip 3:
Lots of lime juice should be consumed.

      Tip 4:
1/2 teaspoon ginger juice, 1 teaspoon mint juice and 1 teaspoon lime juice to be taken as often as possible

      Tip 5:
First thing in the morning, drink 1 glass of fresh
Tomato juice. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to
      this

Always visit your doctor and take your medications very serious because women with SS GNT always have lots of complications @ childbirth. Anaemic things.

    1. They say a problem shared is half solved. People bringing their health issue here do so to give themselves a kind of relief.
A doctor will tell u to do tests nd give drugs wen necessary, but seeing someone who has been/in that kinda situation to interact with helps too.
Nevertheless, self medication is BAD and harmful. Life has no duplicate. See a doctor!

    2. My dear sister, there are no drugs for that yellow colour. I'm waiting for the doctor that would come and there is. I'm sickle cell so I know. All you need is water therapy. Drink loads of water/fluid. You'll notice the change of colour in your urine sef. It also explains why you come out with "white eyes" after being hospitalised. It's the drip/fluid. As for the lecturer abeg ignore him, some people are like that. That's why I never talk about it on this blog cuz I thought I was going to send my pictures in on my birthday, make people no cuss me out "oh that SS girl" lol! I also have regular checkups even when I'm perfectly fine. PS, that doesn't mean I don't feel weak sometimes o. I just haven't had crisis

When it's time to pass out, we usually have days of night vigil of prayers.
There was this lady who always had crises, after our vigils, she believed her genotype had changed and went for a test. To the amazement of everyone, it had really changed to AA. Her parents were even happier than her.
Anywhere one finds God in spirit and truth, let the person stay.

  20. @ Goldscent Diamond, if you have been to nigeria hospitals and see how they fail woefully in diagnosis then you wont make the comment that you made. FYI this segment helps people with these issues to know or have an idea of what their problem really is. Secondly, when these issues are being discussed, they have the opportunity to meet with people that has or have had similar problems like theirs. Or maybe you think they haven't been to the hospital b4 now? Well lemme tell you one thing with our so called doctors, they don't and can never lend a listening ear to their patients. All they do is assume what they think is wrong with the patient cos they are in a hurry to make more money. Its so bad that you have to let them know the test you should run cos left for them, they cannot figure it out on their. So my dear Goldscent diamond, this segment is the best thing that happened to BVs with health issues. Sorry my dear In-house doctors no vex oh cos na from experience me dey write this long epistle. Iwe unu adi na oku. I know u guys are among the very few good doctors we have in this our obodo nigeria.

    2. My dear anonymous am not faulting your observation truth is most of these doctors in public hospitals are overwhelmed with a lot of patients.. Imagine having 6hrs to spare during clinics and you have to see at least 25 patients.

My own complains is that BVs should stop prescribing medications it's wron.. Medications are usually tailored to an individual.. BVs can share their experiences that's what support groups are for it makes people understand there aren't the only ones and.they can.beat it if others beat it too.

Poster please stick with your drugs..deep jaundice (yellowness of the eyes) indicates that your blood cells..red blood cells are breaking down (hemolytic crisis) or in some case it indicates acute liver infection which could be acquired from the numerous blood transfusions sicklers are subjected to at times...so my dear please work well with your doctors...cheers dear and God's grace

  23. The first line of defense is to drink a lot of water. Hydrating your system will help dilute the bilirubin and get rid of other waste products in your system via the kidneys, leaving the liver with less work to do.

The second important thing is to ensure you have a healthy liver. The liver is one of the most important organs in the body, and with sickle cell patients, we must love and care for our livers. All foods, medications and drugs that you take are broken down by the liver, so before you pop the pill or eat that French fry; think of the work your liver must do to excrete it.

Vitamins A and D are excreted by the liver, so take only the recommended daily requirement and no more.
Ensure that you take only medications that are not harmful to the liver. Tylenol is broken down by the liver, so use with discretion.
At your next doctor appointment, ask for her to draw your AST/ALT (liver enzyme) levels so you know how damaged or awesome your liver is.
Stay away from alcohol because this is extremely harmful to your liver (isn’t good for sickle cell anyway).
Have a low fat diet. Fatty deposits can attach to your liver, making it inefficient, unable to do its work, and…well fat;) So stick to a healthy diet.
Watch your protein intake. The liver is in charge of processing protein, and a diet high in protein can overload the liver. Dairy and vegetarian proteins are easier to process than meat proteins, so choose wisely.
Stay away from over-processed foods. The chemicals in processed, canned, pickled, packaged foods have to be broken down by the liver, so try to stick to fresh, whole, organic and natural foods as much as possible.
Beware of your herbal remedies. Plants of Senecio, Crotalaria, and Heliotopium families are hepato-toxic (harmful to the liver). Plus chaparral, germander, comfrey, mistletoe, skullcap, margosa oil, mate tea, Gordolobo yerba tea, pennyroyral and Jin Blu Huan.
    Foods Recommended to Reduce Jaundice:

For Your Juicing try: Beets, gooseberry, ripe banana, sugar cane juice with half a lemon, lime juice, ginger juice, tomato juice, or barley water

For Your Teas, boil and steep: Bitter leaves like karela, luffa, lemon leaves, radish leaves, or 2 teaspoons of oregano for 10 minutes

For Your Snacks try: Almonds, dates, cardamoms, prunes

This u can do by avoiding infections, stress and dehydration. Take lots of water and be regular on the folic acid.

  46. Hi Anon,
Anytime u notice the jaundice seems darker, increase your intake of water ie to at LEAST 3 bottles of BIG EVA water a day....this will help to 'flush' it. You also dnt need iron tablets, just folic acid and paludrine.
    All the best
