History was made on November 1, 2013 when government handed over the privatized power generating and distributing companies to their private investors.
Today will make it exactly 1 year since the investors took over.
Has privatization been positive or negative?Has it made any difference?
Anyway I will say yes because in my side, I can boast of light now unlike before.

ReplyDeleteThe rain of last week saturday resulted in total blackout for my area for 6days! Not like there was thunderstorm oh. I guess they want to go round to disconnect people, hence this light we are seeing now. They will soon go back to their status quo.

ReplyDeleteThe problem with nigeria is that nobody supervises anything,and even when they do,they are quickly compromised with bribes and favours!
ReplyDeleteBut then,leaving it for the government over the years didn't improve a thing since independence,dou cheaper rates for service not rendered..
Basically privatisation would have been the best thing under proper supervision!
In my area (New Oko Oba, Agege Lagos State),it is terrible and to worsen the situation, they bring outrageous bills at the end of the month because there is no meter installed.. We've been waiting for IKEDC to provide card meters for a year now but they keep posting us because they are making mad profit from the situation.. The privatization thing is all messed up.. I wish their monopoly can be broken so consumers can have alternatives.. The government to check their activities as IKEDC are defrauding us!!!

Stella, Thank God you spoke about this topic, I have been looking for a way to tell you about the retired staff of the defunct PHCN, its been over 6months they have not been paid their pension, this was never the case prior to when they were privatized.
ReplyDeleteI see my dad and I feel hurt cause his pensions are been delayed, my siblings are yet to finish school, this is a man that worked for so many years, mon-sun, christmas, new year, esther, he was always working, there was even a time he was called to come to the office @ 12am cos of a circuit breaker problem, he didn't hesitate to go, even after returning by 6am, he still went back to the office.
One thing I know for sure is that PHCN workers especially those in Transmission and Generation work their asses off, they love what they do, I see them discuss about engineering and their wiliness to do more if they are given the opportunity.
I know people at the top visit your blog;
please if you are one of them and you are reading this I beg of you to pay PHCN pensioners.

Dear Anonymous, I understand your grievances, am also a practicing engineer and understand the stressful nature of engineering work. But i think its too early for your dad to start complaining about pensions. These guys were paid off with very large severance package. Hope he is not extravaagant.
