I was given two shots of injection to numb my gum on the right side and then the teeth was drilled, cleaned out and filled up and I left the Dentist with a mouth that had no feelings and felt swollen.
I was advised not to eat for like 3 hours so that I do not eat my Tongue or hurt myself.I complied but what followed next was a nightmare!

From 11am yesterday Morning till 10pm last night,I had something that felt like a headache in my mouth,it was pain that could was as bad as you can imagine.
I couldn't take any pain killers because I had not eaten.I felt so emotionally drained from the pain and all of a sudden I remembered a conversation I had a long time back.

My friend was in a relationship that he said felt like 'toothache''.....I didn't understand then but now I do.

The pain isnt as bad as yesterday's but it is still there and I am still taking it easy.

.....So,who has a toothache sorry or a ''toothache'' story?

    6. Almost everyone will have one. Mine was painful especially in the night when the mouth is at rest from drinking, eating, talking and various mouth action. When i visited the dentist and the tooth was removed, i was told to gopple the tooth area with warm water mix with salt. I was doing this with drugs adminstered. For 3 days, i was already feeling normal. No pain and feeling fine but i stick to their instructions for the next 14 days till the drug finished. No matter how you care for your teeth, always employ the dentist touch atleast twice a year.

    7. Also, before visiting the dentist office, i was putting honey in the affected tooth mostly @ nite when i feel pain and it works. The pain was reducing but later it will reappear and i will put it again. This was how i ease my nite of stressful pain. During the day, i don't normally feel pain. I love honey, i always have it handy in my house. I wish BV don't experience toothache. You can something out of duress.

    1. Stella if I begin my own eh. I have done plenty fillings, 2 root canal procedures and a surgical removal. Nne eh, one RCT almost made me run mad. The student doc (final year) that was supposed to start off the process was busy adjusting that their screen protector and not rly concentrating . Usually I use two injections cos my body system can't take only one. No be sey I de shayo oh. When she started the process of drilling the tooth, still battling with that glass she was wearing, she mistakenly drilled on a nerve or so. The pain was so excruciating that it seemed as if it went through my brain and suddenly I cldnt see. I started screaming that there was smthn wrong with my eyes oh, the consultant ran to my side and asked the gal wat happened. She said she ddnt know oh. The man now asked me how I felt and I told him that while she was drilling, there came this sharp pain that felt like what I described above. If you see the eyes the man gave her. So he pursued her from there and took over but not after they allowed me to calm down for like 30mins and also gave me 7up to take. It was later that someone I told what happened said I was lucky oh cos what the girl did can actually cause a permanent issue in the brain or something. This na no 1. No 2...

    1. 2nd was the last tooth that had a hole that my tongue enter. Na so I stroll enter LASUTH like sey na just normal extraction. I was told it would be surgically removed. Ahh, wetin come be that one nah. I was told to come back in 2days time. When I entered the theatre, as usually 2 injections for this body. The doctor brought the 'pliers', hammer, saw-like thing. All for this mouth? He now started when I had alrdy started feeling numb on that side. Stella na so dis tooth no gree comot oh. The doc shook it left and right but the thing no bulge. He now had to carry that dental hammer. He advised I should hold my jaw oh cos the force of the hammering can dislocate the jaw. Ahh!! Otio! I held my jaw so hard, the doc started laughing sef. The hammering was done like 3 different tyms till the yeye tooth was able to move. Infact they were almst about to saw round it when God just help me oh. When he finished and all, I was so weak from the hammering that I jst slumped on that chair and started crying. The doc was a nice man, he said I should just take my time cos it wasn't an easy one. One guy that was lamenting that he was feeling pain cos his was easier as it was just plied out, witnessed the whole action on my. The guy was so shocked that he said he wasn't sure he had pain again. Lol.

  17. I don't have a toothache story but I can share my sister's story. Lol. After the removal of a tooth, her face got swollen. No joke, the face was as swollen as a pumpkin and her mouth couldn't open. She could only take pap, mashed foods and fluids. She had to take a leave by force and only attended a training session during the weekend with her swollen face. Lol. Don't know how it happened but even with the swollen face she still had 2 guys asking to date her (winsh geh).
So..... after that experience, she went back to the dentist and that is how they discovered that they removed the wrong tooth.....

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm surprised your doctors didn't prescribe any drugs for you to be taking for the next few days because the pain will most definitely come back after the operation. You can go completely on fluids (juice and yoghurt/milk) so you can take your drugs. After taking your fluids always use a mouthwash. Stay blessed SDK.

Apparently,a dentist had extracted her tooth(she said the pain became unbearable at work)..We blamed her cos she didn't even go to a good one...the man just manhandled my mom's mouth..she swears the numbing injection he gave her didn't work..lmao!!that he was prodding like he was looking for his lost working tool in her mouth!! It became the joke of the house..she saw the humour in it later sha!! Anytime her phones can't be reached..we always say "igaala to another quack?? 36. Sorry dear, I can imagine. Between November last year and January this year I had to pull two wisdom teeth, one was impacted the other wasn't.
Removing the impacted was one of my worst and most painful experiences, from the x-Ray pix the tooth was growing backward towards my tonsil. The doc gave me four vials of anesthesia, the first two no work and I don't even drink alcohol. Come see pulling, oh my God I suffered eh! After about an hour and half of shaking my head side side the tooth came out, I thought my suffering was over, my mouth and jaw felt like I had a bag of cement in there. Then came the real pain after the painkiller wore off, this pain was on another level even tramadol no work, for two days I was in bed, Stella you try, and no I didn't have dry socket.
Toothache is not something you wish your enemy. Doctors advice that you pull you wisdom teeth in your teens, but am somewhat of a late bloomer. I thank God that phase is gone and I hope not to go through such terrible pains again. Once again sorry Stella and don't stress too much.

  38. I have!!
    My second tooth removal!!
I was in Primary four, after weeks of painful toothache,my mum took me to hospital to remove the tooth.
I was given an injection to numb the gums or wateva.
When twas my turn,i went in with mummy, laid down and opened my precious lil mouth. The doc then switched ob a very bright light to look into my sexy teeth.

I wasn't even afraid coz the first time I remove two front tooth, it didnt hurt.
    So I was just chilling.
Then the doc brought sth that looked lyk hammer and chisel.
That was wen I knew that this was no longer child's play

I looked at my mum, she was at a corner shivering.
I knew I was done for.
Then the doc started the evacuation.
Twas a back tooth and had a hole.

The first pain I felt went straight to my brain!
Xhrist!! That was wen I knew I could give birth afterall. D pain was outta ds world.

    That injection did nada.

"Doctor is okay! "Doctor is okay"
    I was screaming.
Nobody knew wat I was saying coz of course the doxtors tools were in my mouth.

I was kicking n beating the doc.
    Then someone held my legs.
Twas my precious mama with tears in her eyes.

After the evacuation. My mouth was swollen with a huge cotton wool inside.

    Given a million drugs.
N d doctor reeled out instructions for my mom,i was weeping like Mary Magdelene.

"The tooth might not grow back". The doc said.
    I didnt give a damn.

    We drove home.
I didnt eat sweets nor chew gum three years after that day.
    I stopped eating ice blocks.
And it took me longer years to chew with that side of my mouth again.
Two years ago, the tooth grew back.

    Praise the Lord!

I ws wit d numb mouth dt felt swollen, until 3pm b4 dey called me again. Unfortunately for me, I ws assigned 2 a female doctor dts evn a pastor's wife. I got in her chair and ws staring @ d church calender of her n her hubby. Den d torture began. I ws feeling all d metal instruments, and d pain no b here. All d while, d woman ws saying I'm nt feeling any pain, youth of diz days lyk 2 pretend. She succeeded in breaking d crown n d root ws still in. She told me to get up, dt shez tired of my rubbish pretence. I shld go n come back in two weeks. I went outsyd ha door n stood der crying lyk one ovagrwn baby. Den one younger doc, a guy came n asked wht d prob ws. I xplained 2 him n he took me back in. He injected me again, n removed d root. N I didn't feel a thing. Obviously d previous injection had worn out b4 dt woman decided 2 torture me. I hv disliked female doctors ever since.

  51. Hmm.. So I had this tooth ache sometime in '12. It was one of my pre-molars. There was a hole in the Centre of the tooth, but I was managing it just fine.
I never even dared to eat with that side, if food mistakenly entered there, the pain was unbelievable. People that have likened it to childbirth are so right abeg.

At a point, the pain become more frequent. Food didn't even have to enter there for the pain to begin. Chai, even now I still shiver at the thought of such pain. From my entire mouth to my ear drums all the way to my head. It was HORRIBLE. I was away at school so my dad asked me to just go remove the tooth already so off I went to the hospital.

I waited for quite a while before I was attended to. The dentist happened to be a young, hot doctor. I opened my mouth and he just looked at me with pity. We were making small talk and he brought an injection to numb that part.

Next, out came something he used to burrow a hole in the side of the tooth, by my gum. I wasn't feeling any serious pain yet. He brought out something that looked like a spanner and just hooked it in the tooth and started pulling viciously! Chai! Such pain. I started screaming!

He gave me a stronger injection, begun from where he stopped but the pain was excruciating! I didn't even know when tears just came out of my eyes. Believe me, it was traumatic.

Lol.. the doctor just gave me this unconcerned look. Another doctor came in at that exact moment and in the most cavalier tone, he said.. " Oh, and she wept".. My yeye doctor replied in the same tone.. " yeah, like Jesus". Needless to say, I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me.

Anyways, my doctor brought out this huge needle and said the injection was called 'baba', the thing numbed my entire mouth. Touching my lip felt like I was touching sand paper or something. Things went smoothly from then on out, I felt absolutely nothing else. When he pulled the tooth out, he shook his head at the extent of damage I had done to that poor teeth.

Well, that was the first and last time I've had toothache, if I even feel the hint a toothache coming on, off I go to get it out. I really can't take such horror now.

  56. From the comments no one really understood what Stella meant.
Her question is if anyone has or had a relationship that left them feeling as if they had toothache?
She wasn't really referring to toothache pain in the real sense of the word.
People should read and understand stories before rushing to comment.

    1. Actually, she said toothache or "toothache". Meaning actual toothache or relationships that were more like toothaches. Whichever you can afford to send in is fine.

    6. .....So,who has a toothache sorry or a ''toothache'' story?" Either way readers comprehend it. It could mean toothache e perience as she narated or relationship. Readers will quickly deduce to mean toothache experience as she narrated hers.

    1. @Ada Jesus, my dear I'm not really surprised at the stories. I kinda sensed people won't understand Stella's question.
I said so in my 1st comment on this post.

I have observed severally that a lot of people can read but sadly not all really understand what they read.
They are not even aware they don't understand what they read.
This post just showed that people don't read in between the lines...Sad.

People should learn to pay attention while reading.
If this were to be an exam, the comments here shows that a lot of people would have failed woefully.
I'm embarrassed to say the least.

  58. Sorry abt your ache stella , bt as a professional in dt field, i can say you would get better, obviously it is normal reaction yu are having after the drilling. Bt if after 2 weeks u still feel pain on chewing, see your dentist it mat be due to hyperocclusion of the filling, so they would smoothen it down

  61. I remember about 12 years ago when one of my molars was not growing right and it caused me a lot of pain. I have been chicken livered especially when it came to anything health/seeing a doctor for as long as I can remember. Anyway fast forward to the day I had an appointment with the dentist,he asked me to get an X-ray done and with that he gave me a date to come get the tooth extracted. I had the most amazing dreams of that soon- to-be-experienced experience. One I can remember was that I became the man in the iron mask and my face was trapped forever!
Anyway on the day of the extraction my mum accompanied me to the dentist, when it was my turn, I insisted she go into the consultation room with me. When the doctor looked at the X-ray and had a look at my mouth I was already shaking, I was able to take the injection without much incidence! When he picked up the instrument that looks like a tiny crow bar I almost fainted and said "doctor, doctor I have a weak heart". My mum, the doctor and his assistant burst out laughing but it was the a totally painless procedure.
Fast forward to the present day being pregnant cost me the health of my teeth and I've got huge holes in each pre-molar on both sides of my mouth. dreading going to the dentist, so many horror stories. Shout out to Dr Omoetin
