Bride To Be Jumps Off Speeding Bus To Her Death.‏

A 27-year-old woman, Lucy Gbagyo, has died after jumping from a speeding commercial bus in the Shogunle area of Lagos State, Punch reports.

The Benue State indigene was on her way to see her fiance, Philip Nguhwa, on Sunday evening for preparations for their wedding when the incident happened.Gbagyo and Nguhwa were to have planned their wedding on February 27, 2015, having courted for four years.

It was learnt that on the fateful day, the deceased had boarded a vehicle from the Toll Gate end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway en route to Ilori Street in the Shogunle area where Nguhwa lives.

The bus driver was said to have sped past her destination and she began to shout for him to stop.

The driver allegedly ignored her and continued with the journey. When her cries fell on deaf ears, she reportedly forced the door open and jumped out.

Her fiance, Nguhwa, a trader, said the driver immediately stopped the vehicle as other passengers and sympathisers in the area rushed to save the victim.

He said,
One of them picked her phone and checked the last dialled number. He saw my number and called me. He said I should rush down to the bus stop.
“When I got there, I called her name and she opened her eyes faintly and shut them again. We all carried her into the bus and rushed her to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

“We had not gone too far when she died in the vehicle. When we got to the hospital, she was confirmed dead on arrival.”
Punch learnt that the victim, who was into the business of buying clothes in Lagos and selling them in Benue, had lost her father in a motor accident in January.

Punch learnt that the police arrested both the driver and the conductor of the vehicle. But a relative, Felix Agu,said the family was not interested in pursuing the case.

Agu said,
“We have written a letter to withdraw the matter. All we want is for her corpse to be released to us for burial. The family stays in Benue and everybody wants her buried in her home town.”

    4. Angelray, it is obvious she wasn't killed by the driver. And I guess the family understood this clearly. From this report it clearly states that she jumped out of a moving vehicle because they didn't stop where she wanted. Sadly no one is to blame but herself. So sad. RIP

  3. She probably thought it was a one chance vehicle or kidnappers.
The driver and conductor are just silly, unless she didn't tell them on time, which I doubt.
    God rest her soul.

  4. Why will she jump off a moving vehicle ?
Maybe she thought they were kidnappers since the driver dint stop the vehicle when she asked them to stop.
Rest in peace. What a sad story.

    2. @Mrs Fine Face, I'm sure she panicked. Who wouldn't in her shoes?

Been in a similar situation during my NYSC days few years back.
Was still new in town, so I entered a bike one faithful night after a stressful day at INEC office (it was election time and INEC used corpers).
I innocently gave the bike man the address of my friend's family house where I was squatting that period.
From what my friend told me, I was meant to arrive their house in like 10 minutes using a bike.
After like 15 minutes ride, I asked the bike man if we haven't reached yet, he said "no" that it's still far.
I immediately smelt a rat and became alert.

He said he made a wrong turn somewhere so he is following a longer route cos of the wrong turn.
I said "ok" but my heart was racing, thinking of how to save myself because I instinctively knew I have entered gobe.
The road was quite deserted that night.
      Hmmmmm!
I prayed frantically in my mind for divine wisdom and protection.

After about 30 minutes ride, I summoned enough courage and told the bike man to please stop, that I'm not going again.
This man refused oh and increased speed. I screamed at him to stop but he ignored me and continued speeding.
I screamed the more but this man kept speeding.
I thought of jumping but I knew it would be a suicide mission and I love my life so much, LOL

Omo without thinking, I grabbed his neck with my 2 hands from the back and squeezed with all my might!
While at it, I whispered in his ears in a very cold, calm tone and told him that if he doesn't stop the bike now, I'll choke him to death. I continued squeezing his neck like my life depended on it,( it did actually).

I don't know what gave me that kind of courage that night.
Still surprised at myself whenever I think about it.

Anyway, I guess he believed I could do it because nobody told the bastard to stop the bike immediately.
I quickly jumped down from his bike and he zoomed off before I could say, jack!

A couple were near the spot he dropped me, they noticed something just happened and walked up to me. They ask if I was ok, (I was on my complete corper uniform btw).
I told them my encounter with the bike man. They shouted saying I'm already at the out-skirt of town!
That it's obvious the bike man had an evil plan.
      Jesus!
I called my friend and told her what happened. She,her mum and her brother came to fetch me that night cos I was too scared to enter another bike.
The kind couple stayed with me till they arrived. God bless them.
Thank God for that day sha.
Who knows, I would have been history by now if not for God.

      RIP to the young lady.

  51. The comments some people are making here just makes me wonder if they read the story at all. She clearly was thrown into a state of panic, with fear of being amongst kidnappers thats why she jumped off. And these silly bus drivers should learn to communicate to passengers if they can not stop at the spot the passenger demands them to. RIP.
