DeleteAwww! How I love December! Way back as a kid in the village, Xmas was such a rave. When eating rice was a luxury. We do the countdown to Xmas. U sleep at the tailor's shop to make sure ur xmas cloth is sewn on time. U run every errands wen Dec is near so you can get good clothes from ur parents.
DeleteYou don't wear anything old on Xmas day. New clothes, shoes, socks, paent,plastic sunglasses and wristwatch. Everything new to match.
Then on Xmas eve, we would go into the bush, cut palm fronds n make tents that we were stay on d eve night n play. We would throw 'bangers' n 'knockouts' n lit ' hibisco' n dance about chanting
" today na wetin? Today na watching night. Tomorrow na wetin? Tomorrow na Christmas "
Then on Xmas day, we would plenty rice in bowls n trays n drink Crush, Limca and Goldspot. Bath very clear and wear everything new n go visiting relatives. U refuse foods n ask for money. Now am nostalgic!

I remember traveling to the village with my family, the excitement of having so many relatives around, the fun of going to people's houses to ask for Christmas money, the good old days when evil did not abound as it does now, going to the stream to fetch water with cousins, the food cooked over firewood... those were the days.
DeleteThings became tough for my parents to the extent that at times they couldn't afford to buy clothes for us, we didn't go to the village as often and the world became a more dangerous place.
Christmas lost its shine for me long ago, but it's still a very special time because my kids are December babies. So I always make an effort for them.

My mum is a Christmas baby, yeeey!
Can't wait to travel home oh.
I miss my folks so much.
In spending it at my parents this year.
I'm so excited like a kid!
Don't mind travelling now sef.
My kids want to see grandma and grandpa.
I heard my mummy bought me some Christmas cloths too. My sis did amebo to me. Can't wait to wear them. My sis said they are really beautiful. I'm excited!
I have booked all the meat my dad will remain after every meal this holidays.
How I miss eating my dad's leftover food and meat. It's always sweeter than the one from the pot. It's an honour when he calls anyone to come and take his leftover, you need to see the swag the lucky person will use to go and collect the food while the rest will be green with envy.
I have made him promise that all his leftovers this holidays goes to me alone! I have told my siblings to back of! It's my turn this holidays. They have been enjoying since.

The extended family that made december fun turned out to be a bunch of greedy lots who will only be by your side when the going is good and they have something to benefit from you.
Christmas looks bleak. No job! I broke die!
But I am grateful for life. Even if na egg I go kill on christmas day!

ReplyDeleteI was born this month. But I m not happy person. I live with an abusive man who abuses me mentally,physicllay,emotionally and financially. I can't go back to my patent because they are not in a safe zone. So I'm stuck with the man I married. I'm just scared I will die someday and live my innocent child in this world alone. I need accommodation like crazy. Some where I will stay and pay up between 3months so that I can get something doing and pay yhr rent. I don't want anything free. I don't have a job because he didn't think I should work but do business and refused giving me funds to startup. I'm just tired. I need a way out for the sake of my sanity. I am gradually falling into depression. There wasn't a sign during courtship tho it was short,only for him to unveil his true self now... Lord send help my path before something bad happens to me

Happy birthday in advance to me, am so happy to be alive today. I wish my dad was still alive to see how big am [lost him when I was 8yrs] my mom has been the one taking care of us.
