Charlie Victims Honoured By World Leaders #Je Suis Charlie

Masses of people joined with world leaders to fill Paris streets Sunday in a rally for unity that officials said was the largest demonstration in French history.

Hundreds of thousands more marched in cities around the country and the world to repudiate a three-day terror spree around the French capital that killed 17 people and left the three gunmen dead.

Their arms linked, more than 40 world leaders headed the somber procession.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas; Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov setting aside their differences for a demonstration that French President Francois Hollande said turned the city into "the capital of the world."

Millions of people streamed through the streets behind them to mourn the victims of deadly attacks on a satirical newspaper, a kosher supermarket and police officers . violence that tore deep into France's sense of wellbeing in a way some compared to Sept. 11 in the United States.

"Our entire country will rise up toward something better," Hollande said.

Details of the attacks continued to emerge, with new video showing one of the gunmen pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group and detailing how the attacks were going to unfold. That gunman, Amedy Coulibaly, was also linked to a new shooting, two days after he and the brothers behind a massacre at satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo were killed in nearly simultaneous police raids.

The attacks tested France's proud commitment to its liberties . liberties that authorities may now curtail to ensure greater security. Marchers recognized this as a watershed moment.

"It's a different world today," said Michel Thiebault, 70.

Illustrating his point, crowds cheered police vans as they wove through the crowds Sunday a rare sight at the many demonstrations that Parisians have staged throughout their rebellious history, when protesters and police are often at odds.
Many shed the aloof attitude Parisians are famous for, helping strangers with directions, cheering and crying together. Sad and angry but fiercely defending their freedom of expression, the marchers mourned the dead and brandished pens and flags from around the world.

Giant rallies were held throughout France and major cities around the world, including London, Madrid and New York .all attacked by al-Qaida-linked extremists as well as Cairo, Sydney, Stockholm, Tokyo and elsewhere.

In Paris, the Interior Ministry said, "the size of this unprecedented demonstration makes it impossible to provide a specific count," noting that the crowds were too big to fit on the official march route and spread out into other streets.

French news media estimated up to 3 million people took part in the Paris march  more than the numbers who took to Paris streets when the Allies liberated the city from the Nazis in World War II.
"I hope that at the end of the day everyone is united. Everyone . Muslims, Jews, Christians, Buddhists," said marcher Zakaria Moumni. "We are humans first of all, and nobody deserves to be murdered like that. Nobody."

On Paris' Republic Square, deafening applause rang out as the world leaders walked past, amid tight security and an atmosphere of togetherness amid adversity. Families of the victims, holding each other for support, marched in the front along with the leaders and with journalists working for the Charlie Hebdo newspaper. Several wept openly.

The 17 victims from the Paris terror attacks: (Top row) Charb, Georges Wolinski, Jean Cabut (aka Cabu), Bernard Maris and Tignous (middle row) Elsa Cayat, Frederic Boisseau, Ahmed Merabet, Franck Brinsolaro, Philippe Honore aka Honore and Mustapha Ourrad (bottom row) Yohan Cohen, Yoav Hattab, Philippe Braham, Francois Saada, Michel Renaud and Clarissa Jean-Philippe.

  9. Yes! these are leaders who care for and value the lives of each of their citizens. NIGERIA/NIGERIANS should take note and emulate this behaviour.
It is sad that thousands have been killed and are being killed in northern Nigeria everyday and our president does not just care! and it is painful and shameful that Nigerians still want to vote for him for another 4 years! That guy has been in office for 6 years yet he could NOT tackle corruption, security, power shortage. our economy is WEAK!
I am not an advocate of APC but yes i would vote for APC because i want CHANGE! We don't know whether or not buharis promises are true but we wouldn't know unless we try! And if he fails, then we kick him out. atleast it'll be better than having someone who has failed to deliver his promises for 6years. NIGERIANS I URGE YOU TO THINK AND VOTE WISELY!

    2. The number of people that have been gruesomely massacred in Nigeria is enough to start another country if u asked me. Too many lives have been wasted and this has nothing to do with APC, MTN, PDP or whatever. It's about attacks on humanity. Enough is just enough.

Nigeria is not safe for any form of rally or walk for now. It will be a recipe for disaster! Even with these ones in Paris,i know there will be snipers and all form of protection everywhere!

Meanwhile in Nigeria, our president and his cohorts are busy pointing their leperous fingers at eachother when they are supposed to sit and have a lasting solution to this insurgency.
Na only to set up committee and voom! These people are forgotten.
I no longer express shock at news of suicide bombings. It has become a norm.
We have lost over 5000lives to these evil bastards.

  14. Inasmuch as I sympathise with the families of the deceased and I hope God restores their joy, I would want everyone to realise that not everyone is tolerant. I remember in 1996 when Nigeria was meant to host the Miss World competition and ThisDay newspaper published a comment that why were Muslims complaining of the competition; that even if Prophet Mohammed saw one of the beauty queens, he would wife her. We know what happened thereafter. Why would a media house publish a cartoon of Mohammed? Totally uncalled of. Once again, RIP to the victims.

Judgemental hypocites..the muslim man that saved some jewish customers at a kosher shop during the paris terrorist seige was only 'a man' saving people but if it was a negative act, its quickly associated with islam! Stop the hate and if christianity teaches tolerance, then 'some' christians don't exhibit it an ounce of it! The actions of some 'bad' extremists doesn't represent the entire data pool.

Cartoons of Jesus (peace be upon him) is published because you christians have a supposed image of him, to me it is very disrespectful to make a cartoon of Christ, there is even a video of him dancing "I will survive" by gloria gaynor, which I couldn't keep on my phone. In as much as I hate extrimist in islam, I see no reason for making a cartoon of the prophet Muhammed( pbh) or any other messanger of God. For God's sake there are millions of things to joke about. Peace be upon us

No. And did any christian take it upon himself to fight those behind the pic? No. So what are we talking here? It should not be up for debate at all, as I try to avoid topics like this. This can never be justified till thy Kingdom come biko.

  22. Stella I respect you a lot but see how quick you are to form "Je suis charlie", yet citizens of your country were massacred at baga and you haven't even reported it, neither has our president your beloved brother addressed the nation concerning that attack. Over 2000 lives were reportedly lost in baga and he hasn't said anything. See the French rallying around and supporting each other, yet here in Nigeria as long as it doesn't affect you directly, it's non of your business. Don't wait until it happens in your home town before you lend your voice. Baga was completely burnt down and most of the people that died were women, children and the aged. Before you "Je suis charlie", say a prayer for baga.. say a prayer for Nigeria. BH is getting bolder by the day.

    2. I said it then.

      And I say it again.

It is wrong for you to refuse to report about BH(I refuse to write their name in full)

      It is a defeatist approach.

It is like burying one's head in sand like an ostrich.

Thousands are massacred daily right there in Nigeria.
Entire villages are sacked, with our soldiers running away.
Here, a soldier walks in anywhere and people give him a standing ovation.
Because you know he's ready to die for his country time.

No life is more sacred than the other.

The life of a French journalist is not more important than that of a 10 year old strapped with bombs and blown to pieces.

But then, psychologically, we follow our leader.
Has GEJ, the chief security officer of Nigeria shown enough commitment to end the way Nigerians are slaughtered daily?

If not for Ezekwesilli and her group, would there have been any march or protest on the Chibok girls' issue?

I watched this Paris march all night and it restored my faith in the human race. Millions marching together for freedom.

Even African leaders who are a direct target of BH were there

  27. If you were Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the isis leader and an attack you orchestrated results in a city wide march by several world leaders, wouldn't you feel more powerfull? Wouldn't you plan more attacks?.. the best way to fight terrorism is "fighting" terrorsism HARD while discouraging these protests and publicity. Give the terrorists a notion that you are indifferent to their attacks. The truth about these violent islamists is that they will continue doing whatever serves their crusade to surreptitiously Islamize the world by fermenting fear and discord and through stealth subterfuge (2015 election).

Well, because in Nigeria scores die and we don't shrug. But in other sane climes...even when a dog dies they acknowledge it, not to mention human lives. They would have done same were it to be one person that was killed too.

The parable of the lost sheep in the bible comes to mind. Where in the midst of 100 sheep one goes missing. The shepherd left the 99 others to bring back the missing one. I digress

Point is our Federal government should take note of how they nailed these bastards down speedily. Not the unnecessary press release of condolence that has become a presidential template devoid of swift action.
