Doctors In House Section.

God is still the CEO of Miracles!

PROBLEM ONE
IS HYPERTENSION HEREDITARY?

Stella Bae,stella sugar,Stellakork, Stellaskuki..

I'm a 20 year old girl who is hypertensive(at least for now). This started like two years ago when I was 19 (will be 21 dis year).I have done series of test and they were all okay. The doctors all concluded that it could be hereditary because my mum is also hypertensive.

The thing is that I'm not satisfied with their reports.Though I have handed everything to God,I just need a very good doctor preferably a cardiologist cos my pulse rate is like over 100 but my BP is still manageable (less than 140) who is interested in my case and can help me unravel the mystery behind this.

I believe there's something wrong somewhere and I want it solved before I start having kids because it could be risky. Is there any in house doctor that can refer me somewhere or state if they know anything of this?

  2. Hypertension cannot be hereditary, however, hypertension can be secondary to a primary genetic disease that is hereditary..... You need to know the cause of the hypertension and im sure ur condition can be managed By using B2 agonist or B1 blockers.

    3. Hiaaannn! You're definitely not a doctor. Haba. B2 agonists or B1 blockers are your choices in a black hypertensive patient. Issokk o. Poster please be careful what you pick up here o. Since you have a strong family history and you've been investigated for secondary hypertension then it's likely you have essential/primary hypertension which is associated with family history. I'm not a cardiologist but a senior Registrar in Internal Medicine here in Lagos. If you're here and you want to see, mail or speak to me...Please drop your e mail address. But whatever you do...Make sure you please take your drugs. Hypertension comes with its numerous complications which unfortunately do not give plenty signs until it may be too late. All these can be prevented if you take your drugs. All the best hon'

Since you said you've been investigated thoroughly for secondary hypertension and there's nothing then it's likely you have primary/essential hypertension. It's quite early but not impossible. Please make sure you use your drugs and go for follow-up regularly. Hypertension comes with a lot of complications which can be prevented. Unfortunately, most people don't use their drugs and come down with complications that don't show up until it's really late. I'm not a cardiologist but I'm a senior Registrar in Internal Medicine(Dermatology) in Lagos and if you want to see/ speak to me, please drop your e mail address and I'll get back to you. You'll be fine sweetie...Hypertension is far from being a death sentence if you don't make it one. My father in law has been hypertensive for close to 40 years and he's fine and dandy....He has been consistent with his drugs. If you see him ehn...you'll want to toast him...lol. Take care hon' and all the best!

    6. Poster, go to a cardiologist and be evaluated, urinalysis, ECG, etc. If you are ok going by those tests then your doctor would decide what next. I'm not for starting antihypertensives at an early age, I'd rather you went for lifestyle modification. 2 yrs ago, I noticed my BP was consistently 140-150/100 I was tempted to start taking drugs, but my cardiologist told me to try less salt, more exercise, fruits, veggies, less alcohol, caffeine. It worked, BP now 120/70. Faith played an important role also because I told God I can't start taking anti hypertensives at 25. So now I'm living healthy. I advise you to do same, but pls see a cardiologist. I'm a doctor btw but I hate drugs, I'm sure God knows this and he provided an alternative for me lol. You'll be fine.

    9. Family history of hypertension plays a role in one being diagnosed with HTN, and unfortunately, genetics is one of those factors that can not be modified. 1st like some people have mentioned , you need to see a cardiologist or even a general practitioner that has equipment like ECG machine. having a HR of >100 continiously is not good.it is called tachycardia, and it means your heart is working too much. The only time is acceptable to have HR >100 is during strenuous activities such as exercise or moving too fast for a reason. A normal HR is Between 60-100. If it is lower than 60 it is called bradycardia, and some people are absolutely doing great with a low HR especially people that ate very active. Tachycardia for no cause can result in a blood clot which can result in stroke.
Not to scar you, but for your own good, see a good medical practitioner ASAP. In the mean time, watch your diet, eat more of heart healthy food such as low salt low fat and low cholesterol food. Stay away from fast food, if you are overweight, create a regime yo incorporate exercise at least 3-4x weekly. You also need to be checked for anemia, and your thyroid function test. Having a family history of HTN is not a death sentence, HTN is controllable if you follow instructions. Controlled HTN can prevent other diseases such as stroke, kidney disease, retinopathy etc. I believe you are a smart person, browse on the internet, get yourself educated, and take care of yourself. Goodluck

  6. Family members share genes, behaviors, lifestyles, and environments that can influence their health and their risk for disease. High blood pressure can run in a family, and your risk for high blood pressure can increase based on your age and your race or ethnicity.

    Genetics and Family History

When members of a family pass traits from one generation to another through genes, that process is called heredity.

Genetic factors likely play some role in high blood pressure, heart disease, and other related conditions. However, it is also likely that people with a family history of high blood pressure share common environments and other potential factors that increase their risk.

The risk for high blood pressure can increase even more when heredity combines with unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as smoking cigarettes and eating an unhealthy diet.

Now let's start with your diet.please avoid fatty foods; animal fats and the groundnut oil you will be using hence forth should be plant oil; like soya groundnut oil.avoid totally foods that are high in cholesterol. make Sure that any food that you eat; should have anti oxidants in them; like ginger and garlic.Google you will see more.avoid anything that will bring too much stress to your heart. or over stress your heart.your exercise should be fast walking early in the morning and late evening. take it serious.avoid fries or fried foods in order not to block the heart arteries. this boils down to you watching whatever you eat.no more eating carelessly. if it takes cooking your own diet in the house; do it because others may not like what you eat.take care dear and all the best.

  16. Hypertension is hereditary. But if you adhere strictly to your Doctor's instruction, u will be able to manage it. The major problem i see here is your pulse rate that is over 100. That's too high.

I dont know if ECG is part of the tests you did. If you didnt, pls do it to know the condition of your heart.
Lastly, if you are on the big side, try shed some weight as that will help you too.

Above all, pray like never before. Divine healing and divine health still exists. God remains the greatest physician, HE is d JEHOVAH RAPHA!

  39. No study has proved that, but having a family hx of hypertension is a risk factor. But u can manage it, but u may have to see a specialist to confirm it is not secondary hypertension. Ensure u adhere to ur antihypertensive therapy. Reduce ur salt intake, consider weight reduction if u r overweight, exercise well, go for DASH diet. God will heal u in Jesus name, amen.

  45. babe, fear not. And yes, hypertension is hereditary. To control it: 1.avoid excess weight gain
    2. Avoid eating things with a lot of salt.
    3. Buy nifedipine and take as prescribed by a doctor (There are other drugs though)

Do these regularly and with time, Your blood pressure will become normal then you will come to this blog to testify :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. U didn't include ur weight
Anyway, u need to change ur lifestyle cus that might have something to do with it. If u like fatty foods, cut down immediately. Fat clogs d arteries hence ur heart works harder to pump blood = high BP. STOP taking salt. Cut down on carbs (d excess turns to fat when u don't use it up) Start exercising (if u don't normally exercise, start slow then increase ur pace.) do a lot of cardio workouts, it strengthens the heart.

  47. God will see you through. Don't forget to exercise regularly, avoid salt n be prayerful
