A cloistered nun has stunned her mother superior and sisters after giving birth to a baby boy after complaining of severe stomach pains.
The sister, who belonged to an order in Macerata, in the eastern Italian region of Le Marche, claimed to have no idea she was pregnant when she was rushed to hospital in agony, after which she gave birth.
The South American nun, who arrived at the convent in June, when it is supposed she was already pregnant, was taken to the emergency department of 'Bartolomeo Eustachio' di San Severino Marche by her fellow sisters.
Doctors quickly unravelled the cause of the mysterious ailment, Il Corriere Adriatico reported.
The baby was born healthy but remains in hospital to undergo more checks, while the nun's convent has expressed an interest in taking care of him, according to L'Unione Sarda.
The case bears a striking similarity to that of a 33-year-old Salvadorean nun in Italy, who gave birth to a baby boy last year, whom she named after Pope Francis.
She told her social worker she did not feel guilty and would raise the child saying: 'I am so happy. 'He is a gift from God. I feel more of a mother than a nun.'
In 2011 a Congolese nun in an Italian order gave birth to a baby girl after being raped by a priest.
She gave up the baby for adoption but after being refused re-entry to the convent changed her mind and recovered the child. - Dailymail report.

@Baby.. as much as it sounds weird and strange.. truly,some women do not know they are pregnant until they feel "stomach pains" and lands at the delivery room.
DeleteDoctors still marvel at this! In some cases:
Patients have underlying issues that show same symptoms with pregnancy thereby not really focusing on their body changes.
Some patients do not even have growing stomachs and attributes weight gain to contraceptives they are taking..
Other mothers still menstruate even while pregnant and strangely the home kit tests show negative for them(doctors have argued that they used expired strips). Since they are probably on pills,they don't bother going to the clinic for blood tests.
You even see girls who have broken up with their boyfriends, not knowing they were already pregnant and not presenting with the usual symptoms of a pregnant woman..so because they feel they are under stress,probably heart break,they eat alot,do not see their periods and will never guess they are pregnant because of the challenges they already have and the fact that they are not having sex..
Intense obesity also is another challenge some women have..
I saw a documentary where they woman never knew she was pregnant..she drank heavily and smoked throughout that period...she was even involved in an accident that kept her in a wheelchair and resulted in weight gain.
Months later when she started feeling "strange pains" she checked into a hospital and was admitted, routine checks were going on..her blood submitted for general tests.. She decides to go use the loo.. oh well,she gave birth to her first baby there!!! Scared and screaming...she alerted the nurses...they took her back,where she gave birth to her second..she was pregnant for twins and they were premature!!
