Sales Execs Who Missed Targets Forced To Kneel On Public Bridge And Chant 'We Are Sorry'

Yahoo Canada News/Yahoo UK - Shamed: The sales reps for the unknown company are made to apologize.

For most sales people, failing to beat their targets might mean a private dressing down from the boss or missing out on a bonus.

But these shamed execs in China were publicly humiliated for missing their targets – by being forced to kneel on a bridge and chant how sorry they were.
Pedestrians who were using a busy crossover in the city of Xiamen, the capital of south-eastern China’s Fujian Province, were stunned to see the men and women in suits on their knees with messages in front of them detailing their name, age, and exactly what it was that they had done to bring such shame on themselves.

One, named as Zhen Liu, 43, had the handwritten message on the ground in front of him saying: "I failed to beat my sales targets."
Another, Ming Chou, 39, had the message: "I have to kneel down on the bridge for one hour as punishment for not finishing my job."

The images of the named and shamed employees went viral after they were uploaded by shocked passer-by Zhu Ku, 29.

She said: "I saw people spread out across the bridge with their heads bowed, chanting they were sorry.
"There was no indication what sort of company they worked for but it certainly doesn’t look like a fun one.

"After a while one of them decided he’d had enough and stood up shouting and grabbing a piece of paper and throwing it on the ground before marching off.
"But the others remained, calmly accepting their punishment."

Internet users were unanimous in saying they would refuse to work for a firm that demanded such embarrassing apologies and many wanted to try and find out the name of the company in order to name and shame them for such bad treatment of staff.culled

  15. How I hate sales and marketing jobs!!! the trouble you have to go through just so the company can make money, the worst is when some people result to sleeping around just to meet unreasonable targets. Before you start saying not every sales job requires one going to such extent, think of how many they are compared to the whole lot.

Thank God i'm out of that field, I won't pray for my enemy to be in such a fix.

    2. My dear, u can say that again o. I will never forget this in a hurry. In fact I said that I'll tell my kids and generation to come what I experienced as a college student in the hands of some companies who would lie to you that you are hired for another position but will later put u out as a marketer. Chaiii I really suffered.

This was in the UK. You know how you'll want to impress your parents that you are independent and can make some cash on your own... so I decided to go job hunting and many companies would tell me I was hired for a marketing position. I would decline and proceed to seek job elsewhere.

Imagine my excitement when I was called for an interview with this corporate organisation that manufactured toys, pens, stationaries, etc. I was specifically told that I was hired for the receptionist position...of which my job description was to take incoming calls from clients who where distributors. And I was told that occasionally I'll be asked to take stocks. I was fine with it. Excited, I rushed home to tell everyone including my school mates who at the time opted to work in Macdonalds.. I was even envying them cos of free food lol.

I showed off that I got a better job and would be dressing formal while they had to use apron and chef caps behind the till taking double cheese burger orders Ahaha. Long story short, I reported to work on my first day and I was shocked at the number of new staff in the meeting room..we were to go through a formal training. I think there were about 20 of us. My mental alarm went ding dung, what do they need this many people for? I thought they had just a few opening as advertised?? Apparently, everyone that went for the final interview was hired. Hmm

Na so we start class o.. come see as this Pakistani boy was sweet talking us about how we each would soon become our own boss because we will be making too much money. Hian.

Finally they now went to bring different sizes of huge boxes that had in them samples of each item that the company produced. And alas, we were told to form a group of 4, and each person would take a bag and hit the street to start entering from one office to another, high street stores, and we were even asked to pitch the product to passersby and make sales. .Ahhhh.
Shame didn't allow me to walk out of that room because I didn't want my friends to laugh at me. So I said I'll manage and see how it goes.

After about an hour on the high street my feet started to hurt that I had blisters. The leader of my group was an old employee who was to guide us. He was so sharp that he made sales within the first 40 minutes. I couldn't because everyone I tried to talk to waved me off that they were busy Lmao. I felt like a fool that I had to form headache.

I left their bloody bag on the street with the team leader. How he managed to drag my bag with his is what I couldn't tell u. This is just one out of such kind of sales jobs I was tricked into. Modern day slavery at its peak. Ok bye bye
