Indian Bridegroom Dumped Over Failed Maths Test.

An Indian bride has walked out of her wedding after her bridegroom-to-be failed to solve a simple maths problem, according to police in Uttar Pradesh.

The bride asked the groom to add 15 and six. When he replied 17, she called off the marriage.

Reports say the groom's family tried to convince the bride to return, but she refused saying the man was illiterate.
Local police said they mediated between the families, and both sides returned all the gifts given before the wedding.

Most marriages in India are arranged by the families, and it is common for a bride and groom to get married without spending time in each other's company.
A police official of Rasoolabad village where the incident happened told BBC Hindi that local resident Mohar Singh had fixed his daughter Lovely's wedding to a man called Ram Baran.

"But just before the marriage ceremony Lovely came to know that Ram Baran is illiterate and she refused to marry," he said.
Mohar Singh told the Associated Press news agency that the "groom's family had kept us in the dark about his poor education".

"Even a first grader can answer this [the maths test]," he said.
Last month, another bride in Uttar Pradesh married a guest at her wedding after her groom-to-be had a seizure and collapsed.
Reports said the groom was epileptic and he had kept the information from the bride and her family.BBC Reportage.

I dont understand the way indians marry..Love means nothing to them i guess..I have an indian friend who lives in New Delhi. It was an arranged thingy.both families very rich. They have a nine year old daughter. That was the one and only time they slept together and until date he doesnt touch her and treats her like his sister. They are not in love but their families forbid them to part because their status will be disgraced.

Some arranged marraiges turn out right and some dont...Different strokes for different folks.

  9. Parents should back off when their kids want to choose life partner for themselves. Stop forcing them to live like flats mates...

Stella it's not only in India, it happens in Nigeria very well. It happens among the very influential people. They hook up their kids with their fellow business associates and have them date themselves. Even when they are not compatible, they are asked to go ahead with the marriage because doing otherwise would cost them alot. These kids pretend to the world that they in turn are happy with the decision, get married and leave like tenants, landlords and flat mates in the house..

Although some work out but then other die in agony..
You will see their pre wedding shoots online and you would awww and coooo over how good they look together. Their wedding pictures would be splashed on Bella naija and every other blog and people would be tapping.

Maybe the man didn't hear her question very well.
Cos even an illiterate can answer that question.

Oh well, I guess the girl never wanted to marry him.
She set a trap for the guy and he fell, unfortunately. As a sharp girl, she grabbed the opportunity to bolt.
They were never meant to be.
    Life goes on.

  26. Am sure it was an arrange marriage if not she would hv knwn he's illitrate during dating days! Anyways not enough reason to call off a wedding! Wirdo

  27. Make the illitrate guy use this opportunity go back to school. The girl would have made a mistake of her life if she have yielded to pressure from her parents. She would have been trapped in an unhappy marriage.LESSON: Boys and girls, dont go into marriage because of your parents cos u are the one to bear the pain if you marry the wrong person.
