Turkey: Husband Fined For Saying 'I Don't Love You'

A man in Turkey has been fined for saying "I don't love you" to his wife.
The spouses - who are divorcing - both sought compensation from each other over insults apparently hurled during their marriage, the Daily Sabah website reports.

A lower court had ruled they were both as bad as one another, but the Supreme Court of Appeal said the man's remark about not loving his wife amounted to "emotional violence", and ordered him to pay her compensation.

The woman said her husband's comment had left her "emotionally wrecked", and that he had often left the marital home. For his part, the man said his wife had repeatedly "cursed" him.

Turkey has been trying to crack down on all forms of violence against women, but the paper points out that emotional and psychological abuse can be difficult to prove.

A 2014 survey of university-educated women working in white-collar jobs found that 40% of respondents had experienced that type of abuse at least once, the Hurriyet Daily News reported in December.

Wow if only this can also be regarded as a crime in Nigeria and couples who hurl words at each other be forced to compensate would be great but most people who do this are broke to the tits.Mscheeew!

  15. Did the woman record their argument? I mean how will they prove he actually said it? I'm not trying to defend the man o, but the man said the woman "cursed" him, why wasn't she fined?
Is that even a punishable "crime"? The law and everybody is partial to women sha. If we are all for gender equality it shouldn't be so, women shouldn't give what they can take.

  27. I met this guy with an AMAZING smile via SDK's S & M. I said/wrote some things out of female PARAing. I have since apologized O! But bros no gree. Even after asking him to FORGIVE me. Should his keeping me in apprehension also be considered as "Emotional" violation? LOL! When people are upset, they tend to say things they don't mean. Our abilty to not or to get off the handle, varies or simlpy does not exist. African are gregarious by nature, African women especially Yoruba can be melo dramatic.(the much I know afterall I be one). Does that mean they lack the ability to be humane or lack compassion? Tempraments differ. As long as you no reach the level of insulting my mama or papa? I should cut you some slack. "I hate you" "I don't love you no more" even Oyinbo dey talk am when vex reach level of "falling off cliff" I guess bottom line is knowing your partner(which takes time & effort of studying them). What can he/she take? What is their "breaking" point? To err is human, to forgive is divine. If human weaknesses were not factored in, the author wouldn't have come up with the saying. Guess man will be man & JESUS will be JESUS then. *shrugs*
