''Stella i am sorry angry right now,my elder sister is suffering in her husband's house,he beats her with head of belt at will,she bleeds all the time,she has 3kids for him,my sister is a very decent woman,was never wayward but accused her that the children might not be his,he took all of them for DNA,and all came out 99.9 his,he was dumbfounded,and looked for another one to hold,saying she doesn't cook for him.
I've been to their house before and she cooks,he just doesn't eat her food,lying up and down,told my sister and i not to visit them I said ok,just last night look at what he did to her?
Funny enough she has had enough and wants to leave but trying to cover the shame that will be on my family especially my dad and might block the way for my sisters and i since we are of marriageable ages now,but after yesterday's beating,God forbid.
She is willing to leave damning all the consequences and we are all behind her,the only problem is that she didn't do a court wedding,she did traditional marriage and church wedding,and the church certificate isn't the one from court,like other churches eg Catholic,and she is a stay at home mum,had issues with her admission in her final year and so she had to leave,she is so helpless now,
Please any bv that is a lawyer that can advise her on remedies,she is married to him for 8 years now,and it's been hell,Please she needs a good lawyer to help her out.

How women remain sane doing absolutely nothing and just having kids in the name of marriage baffles me. Even if you are married to a good man what if he dies, loses his job, is incapacitated? Our legal system does not recognise traditional marriage. The best she can do is take pictures and take the matter to the police and he can be charged with assault and battery! The thing is that at this stage, a lawyer isn't who she needs. What does she need a lawyer for? To help her pack or what? She needs a policeman to supervise her move from the house if she's ready. It is after she's moved to a safe place that she can seek guidance from a lawyer about what she is entitled in the marriage, and for litigation should she decide to press charges for abuse.
DeleteAnd frankly I would say, once she's moved and she's safe, don't bother wasting ur little resources on charges because it will drain u and it will be a prolonged emotional process with different can of worms being opened. It is always messy, I usually advice women against it if the issue isn't very serious. From what the poster wrote, I don't think her matter needs any domestic litigation as of yet. They are agencies set up by the Lagos State government to settle family disputes, employer/employee disputes, landlord/tenant issues, husband/wife disputes etc for free without recourse to court.I have worked there so I can tell you with confidence that any woman suffering from domestic violence, lack of payment of children's school fees or any other family issue can walk into these offices and get solutions. Please tell your sister to Google these offices to get the addresses. She will definitely feel better after visiting. Remember it is free of charge!!!!
