ARMS DEAL:S’AFRICA TO RETURN NIGERIA'S $15M..

South Africa is considering returning more than $15m, it seized from Nigeria in September, last year.

The money, which was meant for the purchase of arms to fight the Boko Haram insurgents, was seized in two batches of $5.7m and $9.3m.

A South African newspaper, The Mail and Guardian, reported on Friday that South Africa had begun to work out the process of returning the money.

According to the newspaper, the effort of South Africa is aimed at starting on a clean slate with Nigerian President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

The money was taken to South Africa through Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg in three suitcases by a delegation said to represent the Nigerian government.

ATEKE TOM TO BUHARI: DON'T  SCRAP AMNESTY PROGRAMME

A former leader of the Niger Delta Vigilante, High Chief Ateke Tom, has urged the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), not to abandon the Amnesty Programme put in place by ex-President Musa Yar’Adua and continued by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ateke Tom, who congratulated Buhari on his victory at the poll, also appealed to him to collaborate with leaders in the Niger Delta to develop the oil -rich region.

The former militant leader, who assured Buhari that the people of the region would support his administration, added that nobody would go back to the creeks or attack oil installations.

The ex-fighter, who spoke with punch newsmen in Okrika Local Government Area on Friday, appealed to Buhari to continue where President Jonathan would stop on the Amnesty Programme, describing the programme as a creation of the struggle of the former Niger Delta agitators.

“I am congratulating Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on his victory during the election. We thank God for today that Buhari is now our President-elect and we pray to God to give him wisdom to lead our country aright.

On the disagreement between him and the River State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, he pointed that though the governor and some politicians in the state hated him, such hatred had made him more popular.

“Everybody knows that Amaechi hates me. Up till now, Amaechi still hates me. Unless our incoming President will be thoughtful, Amaechi could convince him (Buhari) to fight me. The politician only knows how to lie.

APC IN PANIC MODE BECAUSE AGBAJE WILL WIN IN LAGOS – FANI- KAYODE

In a statement yesterday by the Director of Media and Publicy, PDPPCO, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode said, “They should thank their lucky stars that we have a President who saw fit to concede victory and behave like a gentleman rather than cause a stir by rejecting the results and going to court.”

Fani-Kayode described allegations by the All Progressive Congress (APC) that President Jonathan planned to rig today’s governorship election in Lagos in favour of the candidate of the PDP, Mr Jimi Agbaje were far from the truth.
According to Fani- Kayode, the APC in panic mode because it knows that Agbaje will win the election, adding that this was the first time in 16 years that the APC together with the opposition was facing a formidable challenge from a governorship candidate of the PDP, Mr Agbaje.

  5. Ever Wondered Why the Buhari/APC Transition Team is yet to be constituted?

I ll tell you the MAJOR reason why now. It is all centred around one man's obnoxious demands. I can tell you as an insider. As part of the merger agreements, the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria was to provide the VP slot. That agreement was honoured by GMB, even when it almost resulted in a Muslim/Muslim ticket.

I was a member of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change before the merger, GMB and Prince Tony Momoh are still my political leaders. I am a hardcore Buharist and believe strongly in the spartan ideals he stands for. GMB as President elect submitted the list of his transition committee to the party leadership before the Easter holiday with some notable names which we all crave to see at the centre. One notable names GMB put in that list which Ashiwaju rejected were Babatunde Fashola and Olasupo Shasore. The reasons for his decision were parochial. As usual in his selfish trademark, anyone who has disagreed with him politically is to be punished. Do you all remember that he almost deprieved Fashola a 2nd term in office in 2011 simply because he didnt kow-tow to his megalomania. This same man betrayed us in the CPC in 2011 because of his selfish interests and got ACN agents to openly canvass for Jonathan in the General election. Only Aregbesola revolted against that compromise.

Let us not be in a hurry to forget these his antecedents.

In the next few weeks, Asiwaju will be in for the biggest political shock of his life. After getting the VP slot, he now wants more. He wants to nominate Wale Edun to man the Finance Ministry, Mofe Boyo of Oando as Petroleum Minister/NNPC GMD. He has also asked to be given the Works Ministry slot.

Enough is enough. We must stop the greed of one man and put national interest first in all that we do.
