Doctors In House Section.

Docs,your attention needed here!

PREGNANT AND STILL MENSTRATING.

Stella good morning, i'm sorry if my mail is coming in late but I am so worried and I no there are a lot of mothers and doctors here. Please, I went for a test because my period was late and I started noticing changes, it came out that I was pregnant, two days ago, I started seeing blood, I go googled it and felt it was spotting but it became heavier, so I went to the hospital yesterday, the doctor said since I wasn't feeling any pains and the blood wasn't in lumps I should go on bed rest that it may be stress related.

I woke up this morning, and I realized its flowing like my period, I don't no if it's possible to menstrate when you are pregnant, please who has experienced it, i'm just 5weeks and I need to know if my baby is safe.

Please post in doctors in the house. Please I am so worried. Thank you.

    3. Hi. Im a resident doctor in obstetrics and gynecology. Ur condition is not normal. Bleeding in pregnancy can never be a normal thing. There are possibilites: it could be a 1st trimester misscariage, an ectopic pregnancy, an implantation Bleeding. What u need to do now is to run a pelvic scan, preferably a transvaginal ultrasound that will assess the location of the pregnancy. All the best

  2. You have nothing to worry about...I think it's normal cos I had the same experience with my last baby...

I really do not have a personal experience with the heavy bleeding part.

I have consistently experienced implantation bleeding which is very light and for a couple of days...

Please go for a scan dear.

  29. Except if its miscarriage. Menstruating during pregnancy is common. Infact my younger sis was on her period d wwhole 9 months, she didnt even know she was pregnant until a month to delivery, her stomach was as flat as d wall, she was soo young 18yrs. Dad was furious

  40. Blood coming out while pregnant is not mensuration please people, its called bleeding. Bleeding while pregnant is very common, it can be serious or UN serious please go and see an obstetrician to abstain the cause. If you bleed while pregnant it might be a sign of miscarriage or nothing, may be its the fetus trying to attach. It is not normal to bleed while pregnant so go and check it out. Being common does not make it right or normal.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Ofcourse it cannot be "Mensuration".

  47. @Poster,Nothing will happen to ur baby IJN.

I may not hv the time go thru other posts comments but not for "Drs in d house" as i must learn something from it,as am learning from this.

I once witnessed where a medical practitioner was advising a woman to have her womb washed ,thou d woman insisted she will not.(she has been seeking for a baby for yrs)
And that was my first time of hearing such case.
After d whole drama i quietly went and inquired from a nurse why d washing of d womb and the nurse told me she was pregnant and bleeding every month(as i learnt from here that it's called bleeding.Lol!)
Now my qstn is can this bleeding leads to terminating the pregnancy or was d Dr. wrong? Actually i dont know d extend that leads to d advice and i wish i no dat woman, I wld ve love to no what happened to that baby.

Pls i need an answer from d experienced BVs or a Dr. too.

  48. MYTH: That people menstruate during pregnancy (it is not true but women can bleed at any time during pregnancy)
FACT: Bleeding during pregnancy is abnormal. The usual causes of early pregnancy bleeding include all the spectrum of abortion (like threatened, inevitable and incomplete abortions), ectopic gestation and gestational trophoblastic disease (molar pregnancy). Abortion is probably the most common cause. threatened abortion simply means there is a threat to the pregnancy but your cervix is still closed, bleeding is not much (spotting or like your typical minimal menstrual flow) with little or no abdominal pain. it is the only type that can be salvaged.
ADVICE: let a doctor examine and investigate you to confirm you are pregnant, determine the cause of the bleeding and treat you accordingly.

    1. Naah u so wrong. Shrinking fibroid can cause bleeding as a result of low level of ostrogen

      Delete
  49. If it's flowing like a period it's not normal you need to see a doctor spotting expecially if it is brownish red can be expected but fresh blood this early needs doctors attention.

  51. Stella I don't know if it's too late to respond to this post but I read the posters response to some of the comments above and she's stated that the responses have calmed her and now she knows her baby is safe. I you can post this, please do. I'm a doctor, so I can tell her for a fact that bleeding that is very much like menstrual bleeding suggests that all is not well. She needs to book herself in for a scan asap to verify that a fetal heartbeat is still present. Only then can she now commenced bed rest. If there's no fetal heartbeat on ultrasound, then the pregnancy is no longer viable and she will bleed as if she was having a period for the next fee days. The purpose of a scan is to also check for the presence of any abnormalities. So poster, whilst I'm not trying to scare you, please get a scan done.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's not normal to bleed but it happens. Your case and the next person's case may not be the same. ll suggest you do a scan immediately and take the result to a doctor. From the result, a solution ll be found.

    ReplyDelete
  53. What u saw is not your period. It is fibroid shrinking as a result of your pregrancy. If u do a transviginal scan, they will discover subsecous fibroids outside your uterus. Lucky u that they are shrinking due to the absences of ostrogen and your change in diet. The blood will continue until the fibroid shrink depending on size. After your pregnancy they might grow back , so please do a transviginal scan to monitor your uterus.
