Tottenham Releases Emmanuel Adebayor On Compassionate Leave As He Attempts To Resolve Family Issues

Emmanuel Adebayor will not be available for Tottenham’s final game of the season at Everton on Sunday after being allowed to return to his native Togo on compassionate grounds.

Adebayor published the latest in a series of lengthy Facebook posts this week in which he revealed he had contemplated suicide because of a family feud.

Concerns for the striker prompted the Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino to step in on his behalf. The 31-year-old, who has already been granted compassionate leave once this season, is also set to miss the club’s tour of the Far East, and his future at the club must now be in doubt.

Adebayor has used his Facebook account three times to reveal his complicated family issues. In his first post earlier this month he accused his brother Rotimi of stealing mobile phones belonging to team-mates at a leading French football academy.

Adebayor’s third instalment on Wednesday was the most striking as he said arguments with his brothers Kola and Peter, who died in July 2012, drove him to consider taking his own life.

“Many times I wanted to give up,” Adebayor wrote. “Ask my sister Iyabo Adebayor how many times I have called and was ready to commit suicide. I kept these stories for years. But if I die, no one would know my story, no one would learn from it. Some people say I should keep these stories private, but someone has to sacrifice himself, someone has to talk about it.”

    3. Enemies from home. Emmanuel should have just ignored them cos all these whites ehn, if you have private issues, they know it'll affect you professionally. Not like Nigeria that don't concern themselves with your personal life which is good.

    6. Emmanuel please find a good therapist asap and try to get better, several stars went through similar situations including Oprah, there is nothing wrong with saying what hurts and why, but it's best to do so in the privacy of a licensed therapist's office.
Therapists make a killing in Hollywood because so many stars with loads of money have unresolved issues, some see their therapists for several years, please don't feel you're alone in this... maybe it's the price you have to pay for success. Pastors are great but I don't feel they are equipped to handle some situations, they'll definitely pray for you but they may feel compelled to share your situation with others which we want to avoid, no licensed therapist would do that, it's not allowed.
Goodluck on this journey you are about to embark on, please don' t go to Togo until you've had a few sessions and your mind is in the right place, perhaps family therapy may be suggested, who knows.....

Family matters are very delicate..some families are horrible..imagine in a family, your siblings only want to come near you when things are rosy..but the minute small challenge come, they'll avoid you like bad habit..if you hear what people are facing in their families, you'll be surprised..in my own case,I was dating a white man, travelling round the world..anytime I return from my trips,na so my sisters go dey gather me like fly to shit..but I was passing thru hell in the relationship..the kind of things he was doing to me sexually was close to devilish..I ran for my dear life. I met my hubby, then he was a working student and really had nothing. That was when my family's true color came out. They avoided me,stopped talking to me and simply abandoned me. On my wedding day, they sat at the back of the hall like total strangers.not one of them gave me a gift. These are people that are well to do o.Even richer than my hubby..our first year of marriage was hell..I reached out to my family for help, they simply laughed in my face and told me to go and meet my shoe shiner of a husband. My sisters are bank managers,my brothers are managers in oil companies in Port Harcourt. My dad owns an oil servicing company. They all refused to help..I simply forgot about them o..but today God is improving our life. We're blessed with two wonderful kids (whom my family has not seen),hubby is coming up gradually..and he loves me to the moon and back..he's all the family I need..

    4. D bitter truth abt family issue is that they really don't care when things go haywire with u. Anybody can prove me wrong, ur worst betrayal will surely come from within(family).... some pple have very good rapport with their families while it's d opposite for some...... God help us all.

But he is also very foolish for not ignoring them and focusing on his career.

  29. Still saying it, his mother is to blame for everything because she failed along the line to address the issue properly before getting to this stage. He shouldn't go to Togo, telephone conversation (speaker mode) can still help. He needs prayer. If they kill him will they see shi-shi?

God will make a way for him.

  34. Adebayor please do not go back to your family o! Please run to Jesus Christ instead. He is the way! With His power you can conquer every form of evil that comes your way. He said, "come on to me all you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest."

Please avoid Togo like the plague. Since you are in London you can contact Pastor Agu Irukwu of RCCG Jesus House for counseling. I cover you with the blood of Jesus Christ. No weapon formed against you shall prosper in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
