Anambra Prostitutes On Embark On Strike Over Demolition of Brothels

According to a Dailypost report The Anambra State Urban Development Board, ASUDEB, have rendered no fewer than 2000 commercial sex workers at the cattle market, Amansea, in Awka North Local Government Area of the state homeless.

The agency over the weekend stormed the brothel at 3:12 pm with over 50 armed police officers, stressing that the place was been used by kidnappers.
Following their displacement and demolition of their brothel, the irate prostitutes allegedly mobilised and set the remaining structures within the cattle market ablaze.

Commenting on the incident, one of the commercial sex workers, Joy (pysudodym), accused the government officials of been inhuman as they destroyed their brothel without notice, leaving behind some huts, kiosks and canteens that belong to the Hausa cattle traders.

While talking to journalists, the General Manager, Anambra State Urban Development Board, Mr. Enemmuo Nathan Chinedu, who led the raid, disclosed that the raid was part of Governor Willie Obiano’s resolve to pull down criminal structures from the state, adding that the structures demolished were illegal buildings in Amansea Garriki, inherited by prostitutes, kidnappers and armed robbers.

Chinedu further added that the demolition exercise will be extended to Nnewi, Onitsha and other parts of the state where brothels and illegal structures are sited, stressing that it is aimed at flushing prostitutes out of the state.
“A lot of prostitutes live around Amansea cattle market, spoiling our children and constituting a nuisance in the area; and you know that anywhere there is brothel, criminals and kidnappers hover around there.

“In my capacity as the ASUDEB GM, I will ensure that this doesn’t exist anymore in the state, and our activities are in line with our amiable governor’s policy on zero-tolerance for criminals and kidnappers in the state,” Chinedu said.

In another development, the sex workers may have concluded arrangements to go on strike from Wednesday.

These prostitutes are too much in the news these days, them no even get shame again oh...gone are the days that they used to hide behind red light to operate...hian!!!

    1. Yes! They're prostitutes, but they're still citizens with rights, so the government should have at least given them notice before demolition. It's really unfair from the government.
