Buhari Before You Probe Jonathan's Adminstration..

Read this and share your thoughts..

While we support the intention of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to probe the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, we are of the opinion that the officials who served in the past administrations of Gen.

Ibrahim Babangida up till that of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua should be given the opportunity to return the “excess luggage” that belongs to the state (if any) in their own interest and for reasons of clear conscience towards God and humanity. It is in their own interest because such money that was ill-gotten at the expense of the state or as a result of betrayal of trust on such public officials may result in misfortunes.

To be seen to be fair and just, public officials (both politicians and bureaucrats) who are comfortable multi-millionaires and billionaires by Forbes’ ratings should be encouraged to come forward and donate or better still return to the nation’s coffers whatever they cannot defend through their legitimate earnings, investments or intellectual properties. The public officials who were not known in the business circles before they got appointed or elected into offices should be made to account for the reported millions of dollars in their foreign accounts.

The same should apply to some self-appointed whistle-blowers in this present administration and in the immediate past administration. The self-appointed roles of these whistle-blowers may be a ploy to divert government’s attention from their own alleged shady deals which could not be hidden from the preying eyes of the international community and social media. No doubt, these whistle-blowers are doing a good job by raising public awareness to where some looted money is hidden. But the fact remains that they too may be having some skeletons in their cupboards when scrutinised.

We are on the same page with President Buhari’s administration for its stance to probe the immediate past administration because of the alleged monumental fraud or reckless looting of the nation’s treasury.

However, in order to free itself of allegations of any form of carrying out a witch-hunt as the opposition is already insinuating, the Federal Government should also beam its searchlight on both current and past public officials and create a window of opportunity for those of them who have some restitution to make by voluntarily returning some “excess luggage” which they are illegally keeping to themselves which can attract misfortunes to them either now or in the foreseeable future.

Do you think Buhari should only probe the immediate past admin as it was Jonathan's duty to probe the admin before him?

Would Buhari probing the last admin alone result into selective probing or witch-hunting?

If Buhari should probe IBB, Abacha, Obasanjo, Yar'adua et al's regimes, what time would he have to do other things?

What ya think?

For good governance and accountability, you probe your immediate past.

Jonathan was meant to probe his immediate government.that's how it's meant to be.

You probe the government before yours. That's how it works.works. Every mallam with I'm kettle.

  15. I think previous administrations should be probed as well. There is no statute of limitations on fraud or financial crimes. Past presidents and head of states should be asked to voluntarily return a lump sum to avoid a lengthy investigation.
Buhari isn't the person responsible for looking into the financials. He can contract it to audit firms in conjunction with EFCC and FIRS so if they can't be indicted for fraud or money laundering, they can be indicted for tax evasion. The government can also solicit the assistance of the USA to trace their ill gotten proceeds.
The past government didn't probe it's predecessor because he was a PDP member and I doubt if an APC led government would probe this administration if they retain power in years to come. This is a rare opportunity to get back most of our stolen funds so he should go ahead. He has the support of the Nigerian people on this matter.

He should probe all of them. And avoid distraction while at it.

    5. Seconded. You hit the nail on the head: there is no statute of limitations on financial crimes. Plus, for this probe to be considered fair and in line with the rule of law, it must be comprehensive and not selective. PMB can direct EFCC to clean house, starting from IBB et al. To do otherwise, is: goodcause4trouble

  18. i think buhari should probe activities in the oil wrctor, then face his job as president. then he will during his time prove to nigerians that he is truthful by blocking all leakages. we shall take that as a fresh start.

  19. I think he should only probe GEJ's administration. It's so clear that they embezzled so much money which left our economy in a jeopardy.

  20. Let us be wise and reasonable for crying out loud

Why should he probe the government of yaradua and others?? ? That was the job of the sitting president at that time. It was goodlucks job to probe yaradua. It was Yara duo's job to probe obasanjo and the circle continues.

But they failed to do that because they likely felt they would be more corrupt than the precious government. Now someone who wants to do the right thing is been labeled a Witch Hunter..

I don't really know what Nigerians want really.. When the last government was looting all the funds available, we kept crying for someone who would out them where they belong and now someone is doing that and we are still crying because that someone happened to be an opposition...

Please Yall should get over yourselves and allow the man do his job. I will only start criticizing him after he has spent A YEAR IN OFFICE and nothing to show for it. Until then, I'm just going to watch and hope that Nigeria become that better place that has been promised

  25. I don't think it is Buhari's job to probe every administration since Democracy started in Nigeria. He would probe his predecessor, it was the job of his 'predecessor' to probe his own 'predecessor'.

If in the cause of the probing, people keep pointing accusing fingers...then he can follow up.

  26. If Buhari should probe only GEJ government i will see it as witch-hunting. If he must probe then he should probe Babangida, Obasanjo Abacha and Yaradua ( his wife and those that worked for Yaradua ) Turaya or Turai or whatever that her name is, is a big thief.

I feel this is an opportunity to get our stolen money back, but how will this be achieved without taking much time since corruption is not the only problem Nigeria is facing right now.If these thieves are not fished out, others will still continue looting excessively. God help Nigeria!!!

  28. mhzzbee international4 August 2015 at 13:47

yes i feel those necessary should be probed but this should not take much of the time because corruption is not the only problem Nigeria is facing right now. There are problems of unemployment, insecurity and so on.I think if they are probed, it will serve as lessons to others who will be aspiring for political post and the present regime as well.

  29. Well Stella, what i think is, it is not in PMB s place to probe the older/earlier administrations. These people had a chance to rule the country so if they deemed it fit, they could have probed, but they were obviously comfortable with the way funds were being mismanaged.‎
GEJ could have proved the previous admin. He had every opportunity to do so but he didn't. People should please leave PMB to his work the way he deems it fit, they should stop creating problems where there s none abeg‎

    ReplyDelete
  30. He can't probe all the previous administrations, because even 8 years isn't enough for that. He should start from somewhere at least, GEJ could have proved the administration before him too but he chose not to, that's his own palaver.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think the idea that President Buhari is on the move of witch-hunting by singling out GEJ's administration is problematic. But no one is saying it is problematic that Nyesom Wike, the present Governor of Rivers State is singling out Amaechi's administration for probe (why not Odili?). It was the duty and responsibility of GEJ to probe the administration before his just like it was the duty and responsibility of the administration before GEJ to probe the one before it. GEJ handed over to Buhari so Buhari is only right to probe the government that handed over to him....not the other way round. If he had some fishy dealings (which are thousands due to his negligence and institutionalising of corrupt practises by the people of his government), why did he not pay attention to them by dealing and probing them? Instead, those people who blew whistle about the stealings paid for their good deeds. He allowed the criminals to enjoy themselves while millions of Nigerians struggle to eat one meal a day. He forgot how he became president. Imagine the likes of Tompolo, Asari among others were given high hand in the operation of Nigeria as if it was a country ran by touts and thugs. No sympathy on this note, GEJ's administration should be probed (ALONE). The one who takes over Buhari's administration should set up a committee of enquiry to check if there are problems with how he ran his administration. Let us keep this sentiment issues aside and try to be rational for once. It is US (the masses) that are suffering the looting of these criminals not them. Yet we stand up to their defence. This is just crazy.

  32. Every administration should probe its predecessor. If GEJ did not, that is his problem. He shouldn't be spared because he had the opportunity to do the right thing for Nigeria but chose otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  33. He should leave governance & probe govts.before GEJ's? Are we even serious? I am sure corruption is fighting back. They are trying to throw up confusion & engineer Nigerians to call for a back dated probe & consequently muddle up the present probe.Na lie! Probe this recent past govt. Period!

  34. This is the most sentimental write up av ever seen on this blog. Jonathan felt obasanjo's administration was OK Dats y he did not probe him. Remember that the handover buhari. Received was from past administration not from all the administration. I sincerely hope ur not a youth cos if u are and u reason dis way then I don't know what tomorrow holds in store for us. We should support this probe and not be against it. Lets hold our leaders accountable for their misdeeds.

  35. The problem is too far gone if you backdate to Babangida PMB will not be able to do proper work. Those who took over from Babaginda and up to late Yar Adua should have proved the account they were inheriting. I am therefore in support of PMB probing the man he took over from GEJ and his cohorts. LET PMB MIND HIS OWN BUSINESS WITH GEJ.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anyone saying that GEJ should have probed past administrations is being naive. How can PDP probe PDP? I will only agree with that notion if I see PMB probing any APC member. So GEJ should have probed OBJ!!!! That's like believing that PMB will one day probe Tinubu. Haba you guys should get real. All this probing, probing na wash. Let PMB release the names the USA gave him as oil thieves and Halliburton bribe takers first. I'm 99% sure it's a test to see if he is serious about corruption. Him no get that kind liver. Every day na we done find this, we don find that. He should open the entire can of worms, whether APC or PDP, then we will know he means biz
