Buhari Seeks ‘Fearless’ Judges To Try Looters

According to Punch,President Muhammadu Buhari has commenced the process of identifying a few fearless and courageous judges who will be saddled with the responsibility of prosecuting persons who have been found to have stolen national resources.

The prosecution would not be open to “just any judge.”
It was learnt that the President was committed to ensuring that only judges who would expedite action on the cases and would be fearless in discharging their duties would be enlisted for the prosecution.

Punch sources revealed  that that was one of the assignments Buhari gave to the Prof. Itse Sagay-led Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption which he set up on Monday.
The source said it would not be necessary to set up special courts to try corruption cases since efforts were already underway to identify judges that would key into the President’s dream of ensuring that no looter was left unpunished.

He said, “We do not need to entertain any fear that the prosecution of corruption-related cases will not be fast enough because many of our courts are already weighed down by many cases.

Punch also gathered that Buhari was already considering withdrawing national honours from any individual found to have looted the nation’s treasury.

It was learnt that the President’s position was that the nation should not be seen to be honouring any fraudulent person.

But they must not be exclusively hausa fulani muslim judges
And the "victims" must not be only Christians from the south South or south east.
There are corrupt govt officials in every in region of this country. No region should be excluded.

  8. There is a contradiction in the report.

"The source said it would not be necessary to set up special courts to try corruption cases since efforts were already underway to identify judges that would key into the President’s dream of ensuring that no looter was left unpunished.

He said, “We do not need to entertain any fear that the prosecution of corruption-related cases will not be fast enough because many of our courts are already weighed down by many cases.."

If the courts are already weighed down by many cases, won't it affect corruption cases too?

The special court is the best with incorruptible judges.

  15. Its pathetic that he wants to do both his executive duties and judicial duties as well. It is not in his place at all to fish for incorruptible judges, it should b left for d judicial arm. For goodness sakes try and uphold the principles of separation of power. These people are presumed to b innocent until proven guilt and don't try to intimidate or cajole judges/influence dem unduly into convicting dem in the absence of a credible evidence simply becos u feel dey looted d treasury or becos u want them to key into ur corruption battle or u want to make nigerians believe u are d messaiah and dont create an impression that anything short of conviction means something transpired. Gather ur facts n leave d judiciary to do the needful abeg. Let justice prevail.

  16. Buhari stop the talk n do the needful, with you behind any judge appointed to try any body the process should be smooth or are you saying there re sacred COWS in this country? If the pple on trail re guilty with evidence even Gej will be happy to see them go down except its a witch hunt yoi want to emback on.

That's another problem, he will keep listing them till this year finishes. Was telling someone that not having the list of corrupt officers is the problem but taking them to Court(s) with same Naija judges to preside over the issue is even the bigger problem.

  22. He doesn't need to appoint Judges, let him be the judge himself. The only thing we hear is he is looking for people who are not "kworupt". After all they know how much was stolen, they know the bank keeping the said money, US has given them the names of the corrupt people, so I don't even know what they are waiting for.
