The president of the federal republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari,Yesterday conducted the swearing-in of the newly-appointed service chiefs. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
President Buhari also gave the newly appointed service chiefs a marching order to end insurgency in the country in three months.
Buhari gave the order after decorating the officers and pledged to give them the needed support, while charging them to protect innocent civilians as well as respect the rights of combatants to earn the support of Nigerians and the international community at large.
He charged them to be accountable for all men and equipment under their command, with the welfare of the troops uppermost in their minds.

ReplyDeleteIt was actually debated on the news earlier today, about whether it was appropriate to make public the deadline and logistics.. and a retired col, I believe it was, stated it wasn't out of order becos it would mean that the BH guys themselves will start to run helter skelter to match the combat team.
DeleteAnd in so doing, he explained, would make them move locations, hence, become disorganised etc. Essentially he said it is when they are disorganised that they can be penetrated.
I'm not sure I quite agree with his ideologies though. I personally think that u do not announce to 'thieves' that u are coming to fish them from their hideouts. I think that the less information the media displays, the more restless and inquisitive they become. These are men who in their own rights use 'intelligence' to operate. And as such, intelligence is what should be employed by the army to catch them unawares. It is easier for a person who's laying a siege to attack a person who's oblivious to being trailed.. all these should be spontaneous so to yield results. In my opinion.
