Doctors In House Section

God is still on the throne...He is FAITHFUL to complete the good work he began in you!

TWO YEARS OLD OVARIAN CYSTS

I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst for over two years now and several doctors tried to talk me into having it removed several times but I was scared

I have never had any complications from it just that it twists periodically only wen am on my period

This happens just twice a year and the pain no be here o, you just don't want to imagine it

This year I have had it twist twice already and the pain is now worse

I have decided to remove it

I'd like blog visitors to kindly let me know if there is any reputable hospital in lagos where this surgery can be done and how much it costs.

Also if any blog visitor has had theirs removed, kindly let me know how it went and the healing process. No scary stories biko...lol

God bless you!

    1. I had a cystectomy through the NHS in the UK last Month. It was keyhole surgery. They had to pass through 4 holes in my abdomen including the vagina. I objected initially because my hymen was still very intact but I decided to go for it at the last minute when I found out that the recovery period and scar was less than an open surgery. Mine was a complex cyst. It was endometriosis and fibroid. I am 27 and it runs in the family. A week after my surgery I was able to walk to buy groceries, cook and do the dishes. I was a mess during the first days.

I was placed on prostap 3 to activate menopause and shrink the growth. I will be on this treatment for 6 months.

Before your surgery, make sure you take the necessary break from work or school and have someone to take care of you. They will pass a tube through your throat during the operation (for breathing) which will give you sore throat and cough for the first few days. You will want to cough but the pains of the stitches will make it very difficult and uncomfortable. That was the tricky part about my recovery. Take sanitary pad and something for sore throat to the hospital. Buy and take blood tonic like 2 weeks before your surgery. It will make recovery faster. If I remember any other thing, I'll post here.

    2. It's me again. Don't wait for your cyst to rupture. If this happens you lose your ovary and a lot of blood which will make recovery challenging for you. Discuss in depth with your surgeon. Ask them to take out only the cyst without touching the ovary. If you're prescribed any drug, ask for the literature and go through it. The side effects are pretty scary tho. Be ready for depression, internal heat and palpitations. You'll be fine.

Don't delay your surgery. I was apprehensive too so I delayed mine, I missed some exams because of this.

NB: I'm guessing you're going for open surgery. I doubt if you can find a public hospital in Nigeria that will do keyhole. If you can, insist on this. The open surgery scar is not cute at all. I've seen C-Section scars that looked better.

    3. I had a cystectomy thru NHS myself over a year ago. It had to be open surgery because i was 5months pregnant ag the time and they had to be careful not to touch my baby. My Surgeon was amazing, my scar is huge but not so bad, they repaired the ovary after removing it.
I was told it is the biggest they had removed in Leicester at tge time it was 30cm and they drained 3litres of liquid from it.
I felt lighter and safer after the surgery cos i knew my baby was safe and no longer pushed to the side.
Post surgery is never easy but start working on ur mind, u r strong and it will be easy for u. It was tough for me cos i had limited choice of pain relief bcos of the pregnancy, na so so paracetamol for crazy pain like that.
Plus the baby was growing, so while the scar was to heal my belly was expanding, making the healing process longer, more painful n all but guess what, i used my dissertation to distract myself from the pain and used the anger from the pain to read n write my thesis. I was so surprised i got a Merit because it was such a painful experience.
      God is ur strength.
Sory bout any typos, in a hurry

Cortisone medication injections can cure cysts
Please do more research and if you decide for surgery be sure to ask your Doctor what you should expect and what will be taken out.

      Not everyone goes for surgery

  13. @ poster, I had the surgery 5 years ago. Although mine was ruptured. Its better you remove it. There's isn't anything to be scared about. Healing doesn't take long. It's like recovering from a CS. I did mine in a private hospital on the island and it was 450k then. I would suggest you do it at a general hospital. You'll be fine dearie. Don't be scared.

  17. Someone should please help a sister in need out here, I have been suffering from PID since 2001 thou I have been treating it and till now it keep coming back, I have gone to both general and private hospitals and still no solution. Am tired of taking drugs, have done countless swap, changed my panties and inner wears and still no result, i also got boo tested and treated while on my own treatment. Now the issue is that am trying to take in but each time after sex the whole sperm will just flush out of my private part making me not to be able to conceive. The next one is that I still do not understand if am ovulating or not. Spoke to my doctor but he told me that am ovulating and am making my eggs but during my ovulation period I do not feel abdominal pains or any sign of ovulation but when I put my hand to wash up my self I will see something like egg york, that look white coming out of my private part. Am confused at the moment what is really wrong with me, why cnt I take in and why no sign of egg being released during ovulation if am ovulating i guess i should see some sign and i also have irrgular menstration. pls someone should explain.

    1. Dontworry yourself, if your DR said you are ovulating dt means you are. The egg yolk thing you see is one of the signs of ovulation, not everyone feels the pain and as for the sperm coming out its normal, it won't remain there forever. Monitor your body and know your cycle so you have sex during your ovulation, it increases your chances.

    2. I never get any signs when I'm ovulating o..I also have irregular periods..but I think Ur hubby should do a test to know the exact infection he has and take appropriate treatment too..we had same problem..I thought I was the one with a fault..anytime we make love,if I get up,d sperm will just pour out completely..even if I lie down for 10hours,it still comes out..I tested and treated infection, and d doctor just gave him drugs without testing him..it was another doc that advised he went for a test..he did,and was treated accordingly..3 months later,I took in..the rest is history..we have two lovely kids now..all the best..

    3. If u are worried dat ur PID might b affecting ur chances of conception pls go n do a HSG test at Crestview in V.I if u are in Lagos cos most times such infection can actually block ur tubes witout u knowing n prevent d release of eggs.

  22. i had one removed 7years ago and it cost me just 150k. It was no biggie at all. So I don't think u shd be worried. It's kind of a simple procedure. Tho surgery isnt always a good idea but since this one hasnt gone for so long maybe u shd just remove it. Mary Ade hospital in bariga isnt bad. The doctor is Dr. Adewunmi and he's quite the experienced gyneacologist. Goodluck

  24. Yeah, had a myomectomy at Mary Ade Hospital too. Dr Adewunmi is quite good but you'll need like 450K

  25. Did mine in 2012 costed about 300k but was covered via health insurance. The scare is not visible, way below my belly. Took 6 weeks off work to rest and was told not to do any stressful activity. Had to do HSG after the surgery. You would be fine. No major scar. The doctor did not even use stitches so the scar is neat. The hospital I used was cedar group hospital in festac.
