President's Spokesman Femi Adesina Replies Critics -Says Buhari’s Appointments To Be Balanced In The Long Run

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina has called on those criticizing his principal for appointing mostly northerners into his government to first look at how qualified those appointed are for such positions, adding that it is the President’s prerogative to appoint whoever he pleases into his government.

While enjoining those already crying wolf over Buhari’s early appointments to first take cognisance of “the personal merit of each person that has been appointed,” he stressed that: “You cannot run away from the fact that each person appointed merits the position. They are qualified!”

Adesina, who made this known Friday while speaking on RayPower’s flagship programme monitored by daily post in Abuja, said: “But then in terms of the spread, the thing I will also like to say is that the President has the prerogative to make appointments and he knows that there is federal character in our constitution. I’m sure he bears that in mind as he makes the appointments that will come in the future.

“I believe that at the end of it all, there is going to be a balance.

“These are still early days in the appointments he is going to make. At the end of it all, I believe we are going to have a balance,” he stated.
Responding to the need for Buhari to make appointments bearing in mind that Nigerians of northern extraction are already leading the legislature and the judiciary, Adesina said: “Let’s not forget that some of those were by elections, some were statutorily the next person in rank.

There is nothing the president can do about that. If it’s by election, what will he do about it? Because he doesn’t control the election; the National Assembly came by election.”

“For the ones he can control, there are still so many ahead,” he said stressing that any position can be key depending on the way the person appointed into the position “applies himself to that position.”

On whether Nigerians can begin to expect ministerial list, the Presidential spokesman assured that Buhari will keep to the September dateline given by him. He added that, “September is just next month and it has 30 days. I believe that within those thirty days, the job will be done.”

I believe that in the next 30 days,we will understand and appreciate Buhari's game plan.Like Femi has said, lets wait and see!

  2. I don't envy Femi's job right now.
    He is a respected journalist.
But he have to spend the next four years defending the indefensible. And justifying the unjustifiable.
I guess Femi meant "in the fullness of time" as usual.

  3. Chai hopeless Nigerians, they keep clinging on, afraid of the worst, cannot call a spade a spade, hoping that they're dreaming. After how many more appointments is it going to finally dawn on all you hopeless people that you supported the wrong person? Come out like the rest of us and say the truth and stop living in self deceit, hoping he would do otherwise. Not like it's going to change anything but atleast we're not in dreamland.

  7. Nigeria is just full of problematic individuals who are really confused of what they want. They virtually make a complain on anything he does right from the first day till today.

As far as am concern, we need employment opportunities, empowerment, constant power supply, health facility and security of lives and properties.

Whosoever will help us achieve those things within a short period of time as promised are good to go. Wetin concern me with his tribe?

Moreover if they succeeded in creating all those opportunities nobody will be discriminated from using it.

Though I advise Mr. President to put into consideration our federal character. Nigeria is yet to develop to that level..whatever appointment you gonna make, the issue religion and region cannot be overlooked.

Don't let us feel marginalized! Here in the South, we have credible and intelligent individuals as well. Snobbing us in your appointment isba message that we are not able.

Good bless Nigeria and God help our government.

  20. Fact is, the recent lopsided appointments into the most critical posts by PMB has already left a bad taste in many peoples mouth. Certainly, not looking forward to future ones in the hopes of making amends. Given the nation's history esp on tribal & religious sensitivities, federal character as enshrined in Naija's contitution and the support from almost every region that led to PMB's election, he ought to have risen above his primordal ties. Yet, he failed woefully in healing the people by ensuring an impartial and equitable representation esp in a nascent democracy. Adesina and stooges should take a back seat bcos we do not need them to placate us with empty promises or left over crumbs from the dinner table. Now, one can see how the evening will end from the morning. #goodcausetospeakup
