PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE AND TTC
Good morning Stella,
Please I need you to help me post in the Doctors section and please hide my identity.
I have been TTC for the past 18 months and doctors confirmed I have pelvic inflammatory disease (P.I.D), and we have been treating it to no avail, it has so much affected my monthly cycle, at times its 22 days, at times 25 days, at other times 23 days instead of the usual 28 days cycle I used to have and instead of the normal 5 days flow it comes 3 days, 2days or 4 days though it has never failed to come.
Myself and DH have been treated times without number and I stopped treatment since October last year.
Now, I am suppose to see my period on the 19th of this month but it has not come and I tested my urine with PT strip and it tested positive sincerely I wish it's true but I don't know what to believe (because my period comes late at times but such times Its always negative and it will come later).
I don't want to raise false hope reason why I have not told DH because he will so drag me to the hospital.
Yes, I know am suppose to go to the hospital but am afraid I don't want to hear the usual ' Ma'am, we are sorry, you are not pregnant'.
Please Doctors in the house, my question goes thus;
1, Can the PID make one miss her period? If yes,
2, Did I test positive because I missed my period due to the PID.
Note: I am not feeling different from my usual self no morning sickness, no fever, no vomiting, nothing unusual is happening to me hence my disbelief thou I pray and wish it's true OMG! I will be the happiest person on earth.

Madam, i gues you are pregnant for the strip to ve read positive but to clear your doubt pls go for a scan.An ultrasound scan will give you a clearer view of what to belive.And yes not everybody passes through those early signs and yours may come later.As for the PID you gynacologist will manage it will and your baby will not be affected.Congratulations.

I'm pregnant and this is my second pregnancy. I have never suffered morning sickness or any thing associated to pregnancy. My family members always ask are you sure you are pregnant in my first trimester because I'll be as normal as ever. Until second trimester when I start showing and adding weight

ReplyDeleteMay God answer our prayers. The month I treated my PID, I noticed my period went as far as 35cycles. Almost thought I was gone but nothing. Its well with every woman seeking. Amen

Not a dr but i will say you should be hopeful since you are ttc. Make sure u dont do streneous things for now and check again in another week or 2 and if its still positive then go 2 d hosp.

PID is usually caused by untreated chlamydia infection, which can wreak havoc on a woman's sexual health and fertility.For the fact that no treatment is clearing the infection, it is most likely that you keep getting reinfected, so you need to find the source.You and your husband should visit a good sexual health clinic for a thorough check up and please don't wait to haves symptoms before you visit a sexual health clinic.The female body is very sensitive, that's the main reason you should take this seriously and always go for a check up periodically. Since this PID problem is on-going,it will be in your best interest to have a laparoscopy done as well as a HSG to look at your womb, ovaries, fallopian tubes and the rest of the pelvic area, to determine the extent of the damage caused by your PID. That will provide much information that will guide the doctors, to offer you the right course of treatment to resolve your fertility issues.Since you have tested positive for a pregnancy test, please please I beg you, go to the hospital for a scan, to make sure it is not an ectopic pregnancy. ReplyDeletePID can be cause by various infections and not necessarily chlamydia or does stubborn sexual diseases,it can even be caused by staph. And yes I'm 95percent sure you re pregnant because from the pid can mimic pregnancy and cause pregnancy test to be positive, I know it can affect the foetus though,depending on how serious the infection is. I lld advice you do a scan right away,its the surest way to confirm the presence of pregnancy and how healthy the foetus is,its not to early to go for a scan, p

ReplyDeleteA poster above has mentioned the common causes of PID and I am not sure exactly what you mean by you have been trying to treat it without no avail. What makes you say so? Do you still get the symptoms- discharge etc? Or you say that because you are not getting pregnant.
Yes, PID is the leading cause of infertility in Nigeria and yes it can cause irregular menses (although some other things can also cause this).
Anyway, since you said you tested positive, you are most likely pregnant because to the best of my knowledge PID doesn't raise HCG. I will advise you to wait for sometime say like 1-2 weeks and test again; I am not sure how many days late this is. I really hope this is... In the future you need to engage in good sexual practices to prevent PID.

PS- Woman to woman advice, I don finish my medical advice above lol.... If I were in your shoes, I would hold off telling DH and pray fervently till you take the next test. You don't want to be disappointed again or raise false hopes. *wink, I am sure you understand.

ReplyDeleteI have told DH already and have got additional strips and we will be testing it every morning till next weekend then we will go for the scan.

Positive it is and positive it will continue to be,I will carry it to full term and I will birth my double portion (twin)Amen.We will continue to pray and trust and hold on to God's word. I will keep you all posted.
