Lassa Fever Confirmed In Lagos

The case, which was diagnosed at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, involves a 25-year-old student from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The patient is said to have been admitted first at a private hospital in Ojokoro area of Lagos State.
According to the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, the patient is responding to treatment.
The death of a Lassa Fever victim at the National Hospital in Abuja, the nation’s capital, had brought the total number of deaths to 43 in the country, from 10 states.

Announcing the death at the National Hospital on Wednesday, the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, called on health workers at all levels to be more vigilant and look out for patients with symptoms of Lassa Fever.

The Minister advised residents of affected states not to panic but to maintain high level vigilance and present themselves for test if they feel unhealthy or they feel symptoms of Lassa Fever which include high fever, stooling, tiredness and vomiting among others.

He cautioned that self-medication should be avoided at this period.

    5. You stink of ignorance! !!!..bear it in mind that Ebola was curbed by Fasholas Doggedness and Fashola is APC. Your GEJ is still dumb.

I hope you know howmany times Nigeria had outbreak of lassafever since 1967 when it was first discovered.
What did GEJ do when there was Lassa fever outbreak in PH back then? I did not say Ebola, there was Lassa fever in PH bk then when 3 UPTH doctors were quarantined.
      Please get educated!

    6. In fact because of that Ebola thing ehn, I respect Fashola and his team till tomorrow. That was the best response to any outbreak ever. Even other countries bowed to Nigeria bcos of that. Upon say we no dey equipped o.

  4. I cleaned and dusted the house this morning like never before. I hate rats, i can't stand rats. I made sure there is no entrance door for it to enter my house, and even if they do find a way by chance, they can't stay cos there is no room..
A sure way to combat the lassa fever is by having good sanitary hygiene.

I hope paranoia doesnt set in..

It can be contacted thru body fluid like sweat, blood etc

    1. Yes...
      Deadlier than ebola
As you can sometime mistake the symptoms for malaria giving it a chance to become chronic..

Can be contacted same way ebola spreads

  7. @stella...can u rid all slums and hood in nigeria of rats? D answer is no.
Nway,i thought the cmd of luth refuted d claims earlier on.

  8. Only if people learn to live in good and healthy environment. Some of these sicknesses are manageable if we eradicate rats as much as we can. There are rat gums that can catch rats. Especially these mice. But no, we humans love when kasala don burst then we start measures. Its only a pity innocent people will become affected and infected due to carelessness. As e don enter Lagos, na only God go save us cos the movement rate to this town is high, especially after the Yuletide season. People drying garri, zobo drinkers and kunu whatever should ease off for now. Zobo was the major cause one period when it hit Edo state which was synonymous with lassa fever, but now the north has taken over.
    Hope this gets contained though.

It is quite common in Ekpoma and Lassa is not a new disease.there is a hospital in irrua were specialist trained on Lassa virus are maybe dey could be contacted to help manage the spread.
