Obasanjo Says No Right-thinking Person Who Has Experienced The Horror Of War Will Agitate For More Wars

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, described the call for secession by Biafra protagonists as a dead agitation borne out of sheer ignorance and error of judgment.

Speaking in Abuja during a roundtable discussion organized by Nextier Advisory, a public sector advisory firm spearheaded by Patrick O. Okigbo III, with the theme: “Nigeria and the Biafra Agitation”. The ex-president asked leaders from the South-East geopolitical zone to call the protesters to order.

He said only those who did not experience the Nigerian civil war would embark on such a malevolent exercise.

“No right-thinking person who has experienced the horror of war will ever agitate for more wars. Most wars stem from real and perceived injustices and dissatisfaction and invariably wars emanate from a desire to correct or redress such situations,” Obasanjo said.

“Our civil war wasn’t any different. But at the end, almost all wars, jaw-jaw takes over from boom and devastation of the gun. That is the path of wisdom, prudence and political sagacity. If the elders abdicate their responsibility to the immaturity, inadequate experience, unrealistic idealism and the frustration of the young, it will no doubt lead to disaster,” the former president said.

  3. They are a being mislead by selfish individual who had fallout from the new political era. Has the youth ask those that want to lead them in the land of Biafra what plan or agenda do they have for them, who are the major sponsors of this move and can they trust them. So many questions to be ask.
The youth should just be careful not to be use for destruction. Baba you had spoken well.

  7. I dont pray for any war but even if it mistakenly happens it will never be like that time when they were not fully prepared plus no access to weapons and all that. We dnt pray for war but if it will repeat it self again. It will never be the same. So u politician should stop stealing the countries money and make nigeria conducive for the masses.

    1. Believe me when I tell you no country will support biafra...

So yes it's going to be like that time again without access to ammunition..

Nnamdi has been saying he had a lot of country backing him, where are they now?? None of them have come forth to ask the federal government to release him and give him a fair trial instead of holding him even after he has met bail..

All those noise he is making is to lead the gullible people into pit

Secondly, I hope you know every state receives revenue?? What has the government in the east use our revenues for?? Our lands remain undeveloped?? Look at Rochas for instance, what has he done in into state aside spending 600m for Xmas?? So federal government is not eating your money but your state government...

Thirdly, I hope you know if biafra happens it would Only comprise of Anambra, abia, enugu, ebonyi, Imo state?? Because other states are not ready to join knowing they will be marginalized. It happened the first time, they wouldn't want it happening again..

It's good to dream but not all dreams come to pass.. Some just remain in our hearts...

The sooner we start working together the better for us. That would help us boot out every corrupt government and bring in a new government to make the country better

  16. ITS EASY AND CHEAP TO CONDEMN THOSE AGITATING FOR BIAFRA BUT THINK: NAME ONE FEDERAL ESTABLISHMENT IN THE SOUTH EAST EXCEPT FEDERAL SECRETARIAT FOR TAX COLLECTION, POLICE STATIONS AND ARMY BARRACKS WHICH WERE BUILT TO FLOG THE BIAFRANS INTO LINE. RE-STRUCTURE NIGERIA.

    1. We need to annihilate all those riff rats agitating for war. We do not need war. We need to make Nigeria work. Stop being myopic. Forget about federal establishment. Think of how you can contribute to Nigeria. Africa!! No wonder we are still backward. When we have so many uneducated and ignorant people agitating for war.

  17. Because they are on top eating Nigeria money alone with their families while others are suffering, wat is there to allow a group of people who said they are tired of being rule by mallams to stay in on there own? Which war is he dragging that his big ear for? All of you knows what you are benefitting that's why it's difficult for them to divide Nigeria..... When Jonathan was there.. You are the one in control, at the dying minute you diverted to apc..... Share the country.. You people should stay on your own, enough of all this nonsense.....

  18. Just this Christmas, my grandmother was gis ting us about the civil war. Her eldest son had been forced into the army. He was barely 14. One day she woke up and trekked from my villa to Onitsha to look for her son. She saw him, dressed him as a girl and brought him home.

She shivers whenever she tells us war stories. It's not something anybody alive or dead wants to witness.
Even Ojukwu himself regretted the war.

I am vehemently against Biafra and Kanu. There are better and wiser ways to buttress your points and have your way. But war? It's not the answer.

What does the South East have? International airport? Seaport? Oil? Agriculture? Industries?
What would you survive on as Biafra?

    Don't be deceived.

  21. I listened to this early in the morning on d Radio.
The truth be said,i think the South-East States/Igbos are less developed. The Federal/previous Govts have not being paying attention to them or gv them equal opportunies like d other regions, hence they feel neglected..i.e.it's like being cheated and can't stand it anymore.Hence, they are drawing the red line.
On the other hand, most of the agitators are just being brainwashed and used bcos they are taking the protest/fight to unreasonable level which can breed political unrest in the country.
The solution is to come to a compromise, let there be good governance, justice and equity.
But what do i know self.
