Charles Novia Writes On Tiwa Savage' Interview -MUST READ.

I watched the video interview of Tiwa Savage. And I have a few thoughts on it.
Seems to me that the basic idea, coming from a PR perspective, was to pull a fast Olivia Pope ish on the scandal which broke a few hours ago. And  understandably so.

Tiwa Savage is a Brand Ambassador for a few top brands such as MTN, Pepsi and Pampers.
Whatever the negative fallout of this impending and scandalous divorce , it’s going to have some downside a bit on the brands she campaigns for. So a fast ‘tell-my-side-of-the-story mode’ had to be employed and fast too.

I don’ t know if a professional PR person was involved with the packaging but it was tacky. Not professionally done, in my opinion. I’m not harping on what she said, as those things are her personal heart cry and she has a right of reply but I’m more interested in the optics of what has been put out.

First, perhaps in a bid to elicit some linear empathy or something, Tiwa was made to think that looking humble and contrite corresponds with tying a dormitory scarf on her head and looking casual in a T Shirt was a good way to send the message home. I think it only demystified her brand more. This is a video which would be watched for years to come and even more so by her kid.

Having tried so hard to be a Beyonce clone in Nigeria (and that’s my perception of her artistic projections all these years), she should have known too that Beyonce never plays with her optics in any way. That scarf and sombre look wasn’t the right optics, if you ask me. There are more visually acceptable ways of projecting a diva’s side of the story and her PR team ( if she has any) messed it up there.

I’m asking myself too if the proprietary of having such an interview twenty four hours after the scandal was advisable. For many, it wouldn’t matter but for some, perhaps a little dignified silence would have been advisable. Ma’am, you are supposed to be pop queen. You be ‘ Dorodiva’ .

A simple press statement that you and your family would love to have your privacy respected at these trying period and bla bla bla  would have kept everyone a bit cool till a proper interview surfaces. Recent clamping up lessons from Toke Makinwa would have helped.

And the spilling though! I really have nothing to say on that much. First, every marriage has peculiar challenges. And couples try to work things out till the pressure point either makes the marriage go South or force the brakes for reconciliation.

I have written many times about couples, especially celebrity couples who ‘flash and form’ seemingly pristine lifestyles on social media and I always end my homilies with the caveat that incessant kudos by one or even both partners to each other on social media at the slightest opportunity, are indications of a festering problem in that marriage. It’s the way it is here. The guy can be pummeling the wife every morning and she still would go up on social media to post his picture with words like ‘the only one for me…my lover, my life’. Incredible.

In her interview, Tiwa said she dreaded his birthdays or wedding anniversaries because of “what people would say”. Sad, when a marriage is predicated on keeping up appearances for the public when it should actually be more private for both couples.

Like I said, what she said in the interview is her right of reply. I would sympathise with her beyond the cosmetic sympathies she’s getting from fans, friends and fiends. She wanted a fairy tale life, worked hard to build it but found out that she was kissed by a frog who didn’t turn out to be the Prince she desired. My sympathy would be on the truncation of that dream and really not the nightmare she woke up from. Because she created it with him. And it had its entertainment value for the fans who lapped it all up.

He was still legally married, from reports back then which were either squashed or played down, yet did  she ignore the alarm bells and went ahead to marry him “after the traditional introduction”? Was the celebration in far away Dubai  just a reception for the introduction perhaps and not the legal nuptials? I stand to be corrected on this?

It’s the classic case of the gullible girls always falling for the bad guys. And when you ask the question why such girls fall into that trap, they would reply that ‘I thought I could change him. That he would change’. Shiooor! His father could not change him, his mother could not change him but it’s you and your ikebe that will now change him?

The gods are wise!

She has denied the allegations of the trysts she purportedly had with Don Jazzy, Dr Sid and Tuface. Just as well too. Because I’m sure those guys must have had some temporary flaccidity after Tee’s ‘depressed’ rant. Person go just siddon e own and next tin your name go dey for somebody gbanshing list! Na wa o......

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OMG!

And hasn’t this marital incubus taken its toll on her career in the past year? I think it has. In my opinion, this last album of Tiwa is crap. It’s quite a flat album. And it’s being received as such since its release in December. Perhaps the matrimonial shenanigans distracted the focus.

It’s going to be hard work to rebuild her career from here on. Hard work.

But she could just reinvent her career . She seems like one who came into the scene with a ferocious focus to be on top. And she was arguably the biggest female act on the scene before perhaps a personal yearn for emotional fulfilment veered her off the path. And in trying to make a comeback, it hasn’t been easy. The fans have limited patience and other female rivals have come on the scene.

Somehow, some comic relief seems to have come out of this. And it is perhaps culinary by inference. ‘ Edible Catering’. Talk about choking on one’s swallow! No pun intended.

I do not know how people psycho-analysed that Tee Blizz’s instagram rants were as a result of depression. It seemed like a drunken or spaced-out outcry to me when I read it

And an accompanying recant on twitter later that his account was hacked seemed too like some silly sobriety thereafter. It’s high time these celebrities stop using the hacking excuse to cover up for infantile indiscretion.

In all of this, I do feel some little sympathy for the couple. But there is a larger lesson to be learnt from all this by them and intending couples too ; stop trying to keep up with The Joneses when in actual fact you have forgotten that you are The Jegedes. Keep the ish real...LOL

Oh….and if Tee Blizz was really hovering around the Lekki Ikoyi bridge as reported,  for a suicide swim from which he was saved by Banky and others, then I would advise a whole squad or eagle – eyed friends to surround all bridges in Lagos after this Tiwa’s interview...LMAO!..Charles Novia!

She cleaned him out. Finished his ass like he messed up hers the day before.
Dude’s likely to see any bathtub as a river after he watches that video.

    12. Some of the points he made are valid and some are annoying. One of which is her appearance, I would have joined in shaming the dressing if she had gone to a studio like that, but in her house HELLO!
I can boldly say I am diva but if you see me in my house especially when I'm not in the best of moods I always have my hair net or scarf on. So did you all expect her to be donning in her '3 inches make up' as you all say.. Common that interview was done in the evening as you can clearly hear her say 'since morning' etc. Abeg I love everything about how she came out to speak up and a lot of her fans do too. It's just so Nigerian to complain and talk about everything, if she had kept quiet I'm sure the slut shaming will never end. I can take anything but an accusation of adultery is too much Abeg. Go Tiwa this too shall pass and may God walk with you all through.

    14. I agree with Charles. The first ish I noticed was the dressing, so fake like trying too hard. The interviewer was terrible and Tiwa's attitude was not all together. Her tears seemed fake, and that ish about a lie detector made me laugh hard. It's not that her situation is funny, but the theatrics of the video is. These our local celebs sometimes think the general public are fools and act anyhow. That being said, I some how believe her side of the story because it makes sense to me, and not because of the theatrics. I know how some men begin to behave when they are in competition with their spouses and can't easily manipulate and subdue them. So they are both to blame. The rumour was she snatched him or something, if true it's just possible that the first cane that flogged the first wife is flogging her. Wish them both well as nobody is perfect.

      Delete
    15. I had a problem with her dressing too. I know she was at home. If it was just an ordinary woman at home, then there absolutely nothing wrong with her dressing. But as a brand ambassador, meenh, you have a lot of work to do, living up to that title. I understood it was damage control, but the PR person needs to up his or her game. Charles Novia is right about a lot of things he wrote. I was actually expecting a press statement saying her husband has been having issues, but she'll stand by him through thick and thin, and she believes he'll get better. I expected her to use that stance. People love that. It's 100% fool proof. But she gives an interview instead, revealing a lot more. Abeg, more damage instead. Stella, no cook soup with my comment ooo.

    16. I see nothing wrong with her scarf..she was home guys! Ofcos Tiwa had to clear herself of those allegations immediately before you guys take her silence for consent. Please allow these couple to have some Peace in this trying time. She has accepted her mistake and by God's grace she will forgive her self and make peace with her past. Only God is holy and perfect
If you're married you shld probably be used to stories like this her horseman (Teebillz). A lot of men do this to their successful wives. Tiwa please don't go back into any shell and don't take any time off. Go back into the studio and make more hits for us. God bless you darling.

    22. OK about whether it was appropriate that she granted the interview within 24 hours. Excuse me, it takes barely a second to destroy a person's personality. It took her husband a few hours to turn Nigerians against Tiwa. Therefore the hours that followed mattered a lot to her personality and her brand, as continuous silence would have damaged her more than ever. As soon as she granted the interview the reactions and feelings became a mixed one before the court of public opinion. Albeit it balanced the rather harsh reactions that she earlier suffered. So again, I say it was the appropriate time.

Charles you are an IDIOT for making fun of Tiwa. The girl admitted she made a huge mistake but u had to repeat it jn your nonsense writeup just to seek attention. I hope you have a happy home and have never made a mistake in ur entire life. You are suppose to be a veteran in the entertainment industry who should 'right' the 'wrongs' of the younger ones, but rather, you lash at every opportunity to quickly write an article when they make any mistake, as if u are always on standby to goof at them. Shame on you.

YOU ARE A MISERABLE SADIST!!!! ‎

Teebliz and Tiwa messed up. TJ lost his authority when he could no longer provide for Tiwa. And as such, Tiwa lost respect for him and prolly ignored him around the house. She's been keeping up with paying all his debits, yet he thinks that she's selfish etc. She didn't take up her wify roles well, she was not domesticated enough and he didn't like that.. Her fault, she should have known. But what TJ has done to that young lady is nothing but mental abuse and torture, so he finds it convenient to play the victim card now because he can't have his way with her anymore.. tough luck. She has a life to live too. He's a man, he should go and hustle and prove her wrong by reclaiming his "manhood" that laziness took away from him. Living larger than life and living on borrowed items isn't a way of impressing your wife. And if u cannot contain ur wife's fame then leave the scene.

Indeed Tiwa is the victim and nothing anyone says can change that. ‎

When they want both the heaven and the earth to turn against you as a woman. They scream that you are sleeping around. They know even your parents can disown you if they hear such. The nost appropriate time for Tiwa to respond is NOW. And she has done the best thing by responding. When TJ couldn't get access to Tiwas' money to buy cocaine. Kwakwakwakwakwa.

    Charles don craze finish.
Broderly, you are very on point with your analysis.

Teebillz is a loser and wants to go down by dragging Tiwa along. Tiwa sef na case of fly wey no de hear word.

I remember how a lot of people warned her against this marriage. I remember how Linda Ikeji was even trying to help them cover up when the lid was about to get off initially. Little wonder she had pre-eclampsia during Jamil's preg. Teebillz was giving her so much pain.

Abeg, marriage is not a do or die. Society stop forcing people to go get married. Singles stop shouting marriage is overrated when deep inside you crave to be a Mrs or Mr. Be true to yourself. If you really don't want marriage, don't bother, be happily single. If you really do want to be a mrs or mr, don't lie to the world and soak your pillows at night.
In the silence of your heart, tell God your desire and ask him to bless you with a wonderful spouse who will adore you and watch Him bless you with your desires. My point is be the same person privately, publicly and personally.

At this junction I will like to warn @ Tonto Churchill to calm it with her plenty enconium on her hubby online. Small small oh! You don't need to prove anything to anybody. Your marriage is yours not showbiz. Careful!

Nown, after all of this messy show, I will advice Tiwa and Teebillz to go separate ways. There is nothing to patch in this marriage. It's been a sham from day one.

Phew! 2016 is the most dramatic year ever. Jeez! From Stella dimoko korkus and AY to Psquare and Juse Okoye to Wizzy and Linda to Tiwa and Teebilz. Only God knows who is next...

    Everybody go dey alright.

  36. The guy was not depressed but high on some edo weed.
Tiwa took him to the cleaners really. The interview was uncalled for and too staged for my liking.
Let me even take the issues she mentioned after the other.
She said he is stealing from her. Tiwa, your husband cannot steal from you. You are one. If he was richer would you not be agitating for equal sharing of his resources. Why do we women always say my money when we are the ones providing but when the man is providing it becomes our money.
You don't have time to cook which you confirmed . Tiwa, you are not the only celeb on planet earth. This is Africa. Family comes first. Your marriage comes first before your music. If you cannot balance both then you have a big problem.
He goes about borrowing and you are the one paying. Since you are the bread winner, why did you not place your husband on a salary knowing fully well that he is struggling financially. If it were to be the other way round, we won't hear all this talk.
He is a junkie, babe you know this fact before going into the marriage and u were probably enjoying it then. How care you say you knew from the start that the marriage will not work yet you went into it. Was it out of sympathy or emotional closure? Or the prick was so good. You used him as a ladder to climb and now that you are there you want to throw the ladder away. You don't do that.
Tying scarf for interview and doing half make up was the height of the hypocrisy. I kept looking at your brow because I don't even know what to make of it.
You are always scared of his birthday and anniversary because you don't know what people will say. It goes to show that your eyes no dey house. Tiwa, love conquers all. Put your celebrity status aside and be a wife first.

TJ was also very wrong in his instagram rant. It just shows that both of you don't have any mutual understanding. You were both infatuated. Lust was mistaken for love. Tunji saw you as a means to financial stability while you saw him as ticket to rise here in Nigeria maybe because of his connection to those already in the industry.

    9. Though you are one in marriage, it is not an excuse to be dishonest and steal from each other. Nwa Amaka it is possible to steal from your spouse. If you can steal from your parents or siblings, can't you steal from your spouse? If he had been honest to tell her about the money he collected and put in his account and about his debts, things might have been different. Is it not on this blog that someone chronicled how her husband kept collecting money from her for school fees and was sending the money to his ex? He also hid his cocaine use and was also committing adultery which he could not deny. I think he saw Tiwa as a work horse, not as a wife. As a woman, you know when your man does not really love you and is using you. One can take it for a while, but for how long? Honesty is the best policy in marriage, once trust is gone, there's nothing good left.

      Delete
    10. Err.. Amaka, he Stole from her as her manager, not as her husband. Please get that clear. He even inflated the price and still got his cut from whatever he declared to the company. And worse of all was not declaring any money at all, while his wife had to perform Free of charge in the UK. Who bares the cost of her trip from Nigeria to the UK? Her hotel and feeding? While hubby had squandered all the money? Is this fair? Haba.

And u say it is not stealing? He was acting in his capacity as a biz partner and her manager, he cheated and stole without remorse. He would have finished her career if she didn't stop it.. When he was relinquished his position as her manager he could no longer control her money, so she started to give him money to pay the debts he incurred on himself o, not on her. And this is ok??

Why should she put a lazy man on a salary? To encourage his habits? Go to club, carry babes, smoke cocaine, drink, etc. So he can be sleeping at home while she hustles? Ahh.. I don't believe this. A man who has shown financial recklessness and who cannot manage a little success, how do u think he would have been able to continue to cope by being spoon fed by her???

      Delete
    11. You made some valid points @ Nwa Amaka but I disagree with some things you said.
Hello, he was her manager and he had his cut, 40%. That's salary.
Even if they were to spend her money together, stealing is not acceptable.
So because they are one, he should spend all their money on drugs, booze and women?
When they have a baby to feed and bills to pay and a future to plan? Hell no.
Junkies like him will spend her hard-earned cash and before you know it, will start selling their properties and before you say kaboom, they are dead broke.
Who suffers? The woman, be rest assured.
And for people saying she doesn't cook, didn't he know before entering the marriage?
The fact that other celebs cook for their husbands doesn't mean it's the same for others. Africa or not.
I once read an interview on Joke Silva who said she doesn't like to cook and her husband didn't give her drama over it. Why? Understanding.
The Tbillz guy was just crying wolf and looking to damage her person, period.

Charles I thought you reasoned deeper than this,if she wanted to look humble, the first target would be to melt those nails hours before that interview, common,or what do you have to say about that? She would her cut everything so we have an image of a barefoot, kitchen kind of wife. Haba Charles!

Why can't she look "humble",when her name is everywhere trashed and trampled on.

  50. Tiwa savage ... lady's....
I keep on saying this message, if you are not happy in a relationship #GO..
MARRIAGE is not BONDAGE, stop covering up for a man , stop being a man umbrella . The disgrace and shame you did not want to face is what you are facing now.
A lot of woman suffer in silence just in the name of marriage, cause I won't talk about love here.
Know your worth , you have been trying to cover up and today his the one that expose you.
Foolish man's, gold diggers, just in the name of fame .... exposing your partner on social media has if we were there when you guys first start dating.
Lady's please stop suffering your self , stop lying to your self just because you want to please people ... while you are dying inside.... you keep on smiling but deep inside you , you are dying.
If you know a marriage or a relationship won't work out go.
The moment you disrespect or insult my #mother , that relationship end up ... it dies..it is over ....nonsense
Dear man stop making your partner vulnerable, and making yourself feel good....
Know that if you expose your #home to outsider they will surely put their mouth in your affairs.
This is a lesson meant for each one of us..... if it doesn't work out move on with your life

    Love your courage tiwa savage🙌🙋

To me she did the right thing which must have been borne out of what she represents.

  58. Nothing wrong with her scarf. The lady is going through fire. With all that the husband put on Instagram , common nah. She is human b4 being a diva. You want her to dress up for what? when all hell is breaking loose on her? ? For me she was just so real with her physical appearance; a tee shirt & a scarf. Eyebrows on point, that was enough.

Also, some are of the opinion that she should have waited some more b4 granting the interview. You all are just so delusional. That marriage had ended long b4 all these rantings of the husband . Tiwa was done with the union long long long. Like she said she knew the marriage won't work. People, by her spilling shit on her husband like that, means she is done with the marriage. She is not looking for sympathy or empathy whatsoever, cause there is no room for reconciliation in her mind . She is wiped out emotionally & psychologically. She is done .

Moreover, the husband has a drug problem, COCAINE! That explained as Charles said his 'spaced out' ranting on line. Or is he suffering from cocaine withdrawal? Since there are no funds from wife to fuel his coke addiction? Frog leaping from his low self worth, to accusing her of infidelity, to accusing his MIL, then his own father, then cherishing a bowl of soup, from family friends. Comparing friends matrimonial tolerances to his wife's ommisons while omitting his own intolerances;, just mixing up shit.

Tiwa is done, she does not need no sympathy from you all. She made up her mind long before the world got an insight of her marital woes. Analyzing her appearance, her utterances, will not change nada. The marriage don kaput.

The guy is a coke addict and you knew all along that when they are low on cash, they will find any way to source money to buy more. The signs were there from the onset but you chose to ignore them.

A Lot of people will blame Teebilz but inspite of it all,let her be objective and work on the things he accused her of.

Being a celebrity doesn't stop one from being a good wife and mother and many other things he said.

I pray Teebilz is rehabilitated and he comes out of this whole stuff better. It is obvious this marriage was doomed from the start.

So much damage was done to her image this past few days. I hope her PR team are working tirelessly to see her image restored. It is well o.

  74. This article is very bland. Nothing funny in it. What is wrong with her dressing? She was at her home the way she deemed it fit to be. Put a sock on it Mr writer.

  75. If I were in her shoes, I would keep quiet since the man said his page was hacked. I would not tell the world that the father of my son is a thief and a drug addict.

I would separate from him and think of what next to do. Now the other woman will be laughing at her.

    1. And that is why the rate of high blood pressure amongst Naija women has increased. She was accused publicly so she has to address the accusations publicly. Is it because she is a woman? Her side has to be heard too you know or you want her to burst?

  76. In Africa, a married woman who is accused of infidelity is expected to deny it immediately and does not even have the patience to wait. That is a valid reason for her not waiting until later. Secondly, a depressed person may get drunk and tell you all about his/her inner problems, e.g, not being good enough, not being man enough, not having a job, being below his/her peers he/she went to school with, etc; and that's when you know that there's more to the drunkenness than you are seeing. Others who may not be depressed but drunk may boast.

  77. It demystified the already demystifying brand caused by Teebillz but if she had looked sharp and all, she would not have garnered all this sympathy. We would all have been seeing the woman who does not cook for her husband, who thinks higher of her job than her husband.

  79. Charles, mind your business.
I believe the 'Silence is golden' rule.
But there are some things you can't keep quiet about.
And even if she was wrong to have granted an interview so early, she's human.
Mr Writer, why didn't you write about Tbillz's cowardice and lack of humanity?
Tiwa talks and you are so quick to bring out your pen...rubbish.
Lots of people may find his write up hilarious, I don't.
    Everyone now has an opinion.
Tired of this issue already sef.
