Businesswoman Allegedly Murdered by Gateman Over Salary in VGC

A 50-year-old businesswoman is believed to have been murdered by her gateman following an altercation regarding his salary.
The woman whose decomposing body was discovered at her VGC residence last Friday, died on Wednesday.

New evidence has emerged that indicate her gateman committed the dastardly act, according to this report.
The deceased, Mabel Okafor, who was stabbed, lived alone at her House J68B, Close 9, VGC, Ajah residence with her gate man.

While speaking to reporters yesterday, a resident in the area who prefers to be anonymous, gave an account of the events that led to the discovery of Ms Okafor’s corpse.

“Nobody knew that the woman was dead until last Friday. We learned that she was stabbed last Wednesday, but it was not until her church members visited on Friday that they found her decomposing body, he said.
“The gate of the building was only bolted, but not locked when the church members came.

“One of them said they became apprehensive after several calls to her mobile telephone indicated that her line was switched off, prompting them to pay her a visit, only to be welcomed with a stench from her room.
“Her body was found on the floor of the sitting room downstairs, with a knife protruding out of her stomach.”

Another neighbour simply identified as Goke also recalled the incident.
“Police have not been able to get the gate man since the incident occurred, neither have they been able to reach the one that brought him.
“In fact, the gate man went away with her phone. We have been warned several times to employ private guards from registered security companies, but some landlords here do not heed the advice.

“Had the fleeing gate man been employed from a registered company, it would have been easy for police to get him,” Goke noted.
Other gatemen from the suspect’s ethnic group recounted how he boasted about doing a number on his boss, following argument over increase in his salary.
They said he claimed he was being paid N20,000 but demanded for an increase of N10,000 but the woman refused.

The alleged culprit, whose identity is yet to be revealed, was introduced to his late boss by her former gateman. He started work just 2 months before he committed the crime.

    4. I read this report somewhere else and it was alleged that a neighbour said it was sad to see that a woman who could own a 300M house had to go for cheap labour by hiring a gate man whose salary was merely 20k. As opposed to going through security agencies, although more expensive, but a thorough background check is usually carried out before sending u a security guard.

I think I agree with the neighbour. But that is not enough reason for anyone to commit such a dastardly act. Even guards hired from reputable companies can still do the same. Imagine, Just because she refused to increase ur salary, u ended a person's life? Do people still have blood running through their veins in Nigeria? What has become of some people? No iota of human empathy. People don't blink anymore before they slit throats or sniff life out of others. It's becoming too much. Jeez

    1. The antidote to this isn't getting a guard from a registered security company. The antidote is doing the right thing at the right time. Why should a 50-year old woman be living alone? She's obviously not married and has no kids. If she did, her corpse wouldn't have been discovered days after. The security man would have thought twice before killing her if she had a family. This is a lesson to all ye angry feminists on this forum that hate men for no justifiable reason. And also to all ye other women that put your careers above common sense. Every woman needs a man and vice versa, mostly in a third world like ours. Be guided. Don't let time drift. Don't listen to the devil's advocates here that advice you not to marry your boyfriend because he isn't rich(how disgusting that even sounds). You need to get married!

    2. Stupid Nigerian mentality..Must every woman marry and have kids? smfh. The gate man is just heartless, and would prolly kill this woman and her whole family if she had any...Stupid mentality.

What about that Nigerian lecturer whose driver killed him? He was a man..yet got killed. This has nothing to do with gender...The gate man had no right killing that woman no matter what.

    5. Blunt, receive sense in Jesus name Amen. So it's only unmarried people that live alone?

      Delete
    6. That is so NOT true. Every human being reserves the Divine right to find or not find a spouse. You DO NOT 'need to get married', if you choose not to. What matters most is living a life that is pleasing to GOD. Marriage is first and foremost, a CHOICE and not Compulsory. A good marriage is a BLESSING, not an achievement. If for whatever reason - by choice or her circumstantial default - this lady lived alone, in absolutely NO WAY should this have predisposed her to a violent untimely death, except of course, she lived with ANIMALS. Any argument to the contrary is draconian indeed. Some people will get married, others for whatever reason, will not. I got married, but I understand that it was absolutely MY personal decision to do so, my perception of those who did not REMAINS unchanged and perennially respectful. Please, let's be guided in our estimation of others, especially those who are not necessarily typical.

    7. @ blunt, life isn't ABC and the realities of life put some people in that situation.

My aunt is about that age and lives alone. Her kids are in school and she is a widow.

One should pray not to have any evil person around one because if you have house helps, drivers, security guards, nannies, cooks, how safe are you? Sometimes even family members!!

We have heard cases of husbands killing their wives and vice-versa, cases of family members conniving with outsiders to kidnap or rob their own families.

I agree with you that staying alone makes one vulnerable but honestly, God is the ultimate protector.

      Delete
    8. So there are no childless widows at 50? Ur argument is so porous

      Delete
    9. Blunt, it is folly to judge a matter without clear facts bro. How do you know if she was a widow or not? What do you know about her kids (if she has or doesn't)...I don't see any of that stated here. You can put down your thoughts but you didn't have to use this lady as a reference. May her soul rest in peace.

      Delete
    10. @ Blunt you are sooooo stupid. Did it occur to u that she could be a widow?? Or something else don't have children? Bros no matter how u fight it or see it, feminism is here to stay and for good. You can retire to d '80's if you are that pained

      Delete
    11. @Blunt, with due respect to your mentality/mode of reasoning, your analysis is somewhat lopsided. Perhaps, put your biases aside and try at another analysis.

Marriage is one of the most fulfilling and amazing unions if entered with the right person and for the right reasons. However, just because a lady is single either by choice or " an act of God", shouldn't make her less of a woman. There are many married women who were murdered in spite of their husbands being at home at the time of said attack. Some married women were actually murdered by their husbands, the very man whom, obviously, ought to be her "protector". What can be more morbidly poetic than that?

So what is a woman to do if she can't get a worthy partner to "wife" her? Assuming she is "lucky" enough, by your assessment, to have a husband, what if she can't have a child or children and this same "golden man" abandons her for younger, greener pastures. Which way to go? Should she wallow in self-pity until depression and suicidal thoughts afflicts and overwhelms her? I think not.

A better solution or preventive measure would be to employ staff who have reliable guarantors and trust God to keep you secure. True, it's preferable not to live alone in case of emergency or just for the warmth of company. But isn't it better to be alone than be surrounded by "destiny wasters" and people out to take advantage of your situation?

Don't get me wrong, I love and honour the institution of marriage. I got married at 24 years to the love of my life and it's been 14 years of bliss. Like old wine, our love gets sweeter with age BUT...I will never encourage any single lady to get married to a man just because she doesn't want to be alone! No sir! The foundation must be right, which includes but not limited to a good partner who loves you for who you are.

As for money, don't get it twisted. Money related issues are the number 1 cause of divorce, statistically. Personally, I would not advice a lady to leave a man who loves her and treats her like a queen for a richer dude who doesn't love her the way she should be treated. However, I will never advice her to marry a man who cannot afford to take care of her and a home. Wait for him to get financially stable before you get married but remember there are no guarantees. He may hit it big and move on to the next new shiny "thang".

It is very unfair to cite this case as the reason why women must get married. We don't know her story and all she had to struggle with just to stay alive. Your safety should be in the Hands of God and not a husband.‎

    12. Blunt, what kind of myopic and disgusting defense of an epistle of yours is dis. Hian, what if her hubby is late, nd she only have girls that had gotten married nd left for their husbands house. Wao, i salute your derogatory perspective. Mitcheeeewwwe......

    3. This was how they killed a senior colleague last xmas in her home in Oniru. She also lived alone while her kids were based abroad. They mastered her schedule and killed her at night, made away with her money and gold jewelry.

Her domestic staff in connivance with her guard did it. They both came from the neighbouring country. It was such a sad case. I think people should at least have a family member live with them. And also, make sure u don't follow a certain schedule for too long so that u confuse ur staff before they master it and arrange for u.

Be spontaneous..confuse them..be unpredictable and it'll help most times.
