Court Rejects Fayose’s Bid To Stop EFCC Probe

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti on Thursday declined to grant an ex parte order sought by Governor Ayodele Fayose to restrain the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating the financial records of the state government.

Justice Cornelius Akintayo refused to grant the order on grounds that the 17th-19th defendants – EFCC, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Department of State Services (DSS) – should be put on notice to prepare for their defence at the court.

The judge consequently adjourned the suit to August 23 and ordered all parties in the matter to appear before him when the motion notice would be heard.

The suit was filed by Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Owoseni Ajayi, to stop the impending investigation of the state government’s accounts by the EFCC.

Another relief sought by the plaintiffs was an order stopping the arrest of the Commissioner for Finance, Accountant General and the managers of the affected banks.

  5. Nothing good comes out of EFCC cases. They just embarrass one and we don't hear anything again. Even the so-called money they seize, we don't hear anything about it again.

  7. Sincerely speaking, The Nigeria Judicial system itself need cleansing, Buhari indeed is fighting corruption and of course corruption will fight back, and it can not be done over the night. The EFCC is doing a good Job by capturing these so called looters, thieves in disguise and political corrupt persons. The evidences are gathered, sent to the courts, and only for these corrupt Judges to grant them bail. Fellow Nigerians nothing could be more frustrating than that.
If an ordinary hungry man is caught with a pot of soup to feed his family he will be labelled a thief and sent to prison without trial. I was opportune to visit Kirikiri prison, in fact the number of persons awaiting trials are more than those convicted, and these are poor, low leveled Nigerians wallowing without any evidence tabled against them.
The likes of Fani-kayode, Raymond Dokpesi and co...How many months or years did they spend there before regaining their freedom or acquitted even with the obvious evidence.

I look forward to the days these corrupt persons will be sent to Jail without the option of fine, just like they will do to an ordinary citizen that has no money or connection.

I am sometimes amazed when you see a law graduate posting CV's here and there, and looking for Jobs when there are free Jobs to improve your practice everywhere (go to the creeks and ghettos, help innocent people that are detained illegally and unnecessarily regain their freedom). It is understood that there are diversities when it comes to practicing, but a lot of them are now diversifying what they learn to practice something else. That is why you see inexperienced lawyers defending their client on what they know nothing about and why won't the Judges be overriding them? Every lawyer want to be driving Jeep the next day after graduation SMH...

The Nigerian political scene is also something else, well I believe we will get there.

  8. People like Fayose occupying public offices such as the governor of a state is an evidence that politics in Nigeria has been left only in the hands of the average minds.
    GOD BLESS NIGERIA
