Stella Oduah Loses Son After Doctor Gave Wrong Prescription.

The  first son of Senator Stella Oduah has died at a Turkish private hospital in Abuja due to the wrong prescription by a medical doctor...

Senator Oduah's son, whose name was given as Maxwell Chinedu Etoromi, died  after he took a wrong medication prescribed for him following a tooth surgery.

SaharaReporters learned that the 28-year-old graduated from Guildford College in the UK before returning to Abuja.

Ms. Oduah served in the Goodluck Jonathan administration as a Minister of Aviation before running for a seat in the Nigerian Senate.

    3. So oo sad. No Mamá should loose a child, especially from negligence or omission of another person.

He might have died from a serious drug reaction, from a severe anaphilactic reaction. It might not have been a wrong medication but an allergic reaction that was so fast in snuffing life out of him. The medicine was most probably an antibiotic, since he had his tooth pulled. That hospital might not have had the med (eg simple EpiPen) to reverse the adverse reaction; OR b4 they even figured out what was going on the young man had already transitioned.

Some drugs will just start closing your airway, from swelling /edema in your throat. wind pipe, lungs. Some may include swelling of the face, lips, tongue then to the throat etc. You see the person gasping for air, eyes bulging out, he /she cannot breathe !!!! Na die the person dey see so.
This is an emergency. Treatment should be immediate, like now now & may include -epinephrine to reduce/reverse the body's allergic course: -Oxygen !; - an antihistamine/cortisone to reduce inflammation of the airway & improve breathing.

Africans don't really believe in adverse drug reactions, ignorance is a tragedy. They will think it is poison in food or drink placed by someone. For prescriptions, they will continue taking a medication even if it is giving them symptoms worse than the illness being treated. They will not notify the Docs so he can prescribe an alternative w lesser or no adverse effects. They just believe since it was prescribed by the Doc, they must take it.
Some don't know what they are allergic to. Some in the diaspora are lucky to find out after something happens to them & they receive treatment in western hospitals.

As I sympathize w the family of this young man, my little write up above is meant to be informative, to let us know what to do, to raise an alarm for a medical emergency & what questions to ask our medical practitioners when faced with same scenario concerning our loved ones.
      Shalom.

    6. Nigerians and lies. You all have hardened almost every doctors heart in this country that they won't even bat an eyelid to chase you lot out when you are almost at the point of death without money.
Everything that goes bad is the doctors fault, No one dies of AIDS, DRUG ABUSE (COCAINE, alcohol, heroine) etc, it is always the Doctor that killed him.
Even celebrities abroad come out plain and accept that they are drug addicts and people know who dies from Hiv/aids, drug overdose bla bla bla.
In Nigeria, its either the Doctor or the witches in the village.
How can you spend sleepless nights to help someone from a terrible illness only for the family to repay you with slander and public abuse? This is the greatest sin one can ever commit.
I know many medical doctors and hospitals that have changed their policy in the past few years, you all keep the slandering but make sure you carry money around cos Majority of hospitals will NOT even look at you if you don't have cash. Since every patient in Nigeria is a potential case of Negligence and malpractice, atleast you go chop the money first so that when the case comes out,you will know that atleast you chop money first. Not the poor ones that will be owing you and still cry wolf.

This YOUNG MAN is A DRUG ADDICT! Yes a DRUG ADDICT but atleast it is better to defame a doctor that studied years to get his degree than to create awareness about DRUG ADDICTION.
The Mayowa case should be an eye opener as to how patients relatives lie to get public attention. Yet you lie and lie and lie to get public sympathy. If people didn't her pic, maybe today they will say LUTH doctors killed her.

It don't necessarily follow. There us something called anaphylaxis.Every individual has something he or she reacts to, that could cause instant death-a protein or drug.So this may have been a drug reaction which became fatal.Often times,no doctor would know what any patient reacts to until it happens. That's if there were no prior reaction & cautionary warning to a medical personnel before the administration of such drugs

The mother stole millions to buy bulletproof BMW, isn't it? Yes, she did. Was it not at the detriment of other people's money and sweat?

Secondly, what was her mission purchasing that/those machine(s)? Because it wasn't just one she bought but 2 if i'm right, and yes, I am.

If she had done the proper thing and not also contribute to the rot, will she be trapped in this now? May be the heads of those cheated or Karma visited her, that I can't say!

But truth be told, people must always live right, so that when that time comes, karma will "jump you over". But these greedy lots prefer stolen funds to human lives due to their greed.

This time, they won't say it's APC's witch hunt.

Let no nuisance come and ovulate under this comment.

She was taken to the hospital almost immediately as it happened in front of the church, she fought a good fight as she bled from 6:30am to 10:45am before giving up after receiving the last Sacrament. I watched from the window helplessly as the doctors tried to save her with no much equiment for them to work with they were just pumping drips into her trying to stop the bleeding.who would say she didn't try bleeding from a deep head injury for over 4hrs. This oduah woman spent millions in buying bullet proof jeeps. I'm sure if she had spent that money on hospital equipment my mum and her son would still be alive. My prayer for all those that stole and still stealing from Nigeria should feel the pains I felt watching my mum helplessly leave this world.

Not some idiot sitting behind their wretched techno phones typing trash that hasn't gone through this that will be saying "RIP" to the boy, "the Doctor's license" should be seized(did the mother do well too by acquiring those machines?no, she didn't, but we will not say it due to hypocrisy. Idiots.

Why didn't she donate that money to the government for the betterment of the hospitals?

What if these top notch had fixed everything with the stolen funds they embezzled for greed sake, will these occurrences still persist? No. I pray ya'll acquire senses.

Ok,so now we know. Besides, in some cases doctors might refuse especially if it is a drug can can cause addiction. Most people just keep going OTC to get them.
Please visit hospitals that doctors write prescriptions. Take a picture of your prescriptions before you hand them over to the pharm to dispense and make sure the drug dispensed is NOT changed to a new drug they are trying to market.

Besides, I haven't seen anyone that comes to the hospital to deliver a baby unaccompanied. Most of the times, the prescriptions are given to your relatives, so they can also do same. I also haven't seen a woman in labour that is asking questions about drugs...there are a few drugs women are given in labour (sometimes), except you had a condition prior labour which the drugs must have been the same you are taking during antenatal.
Any emergency that comes up that requires immediate medication will not even have you oriented in time, place and person to even ask question.
The only questions I hear in labour ward are God WHY! ALLAHUU! CHINEKE Umu Israel! I am CHOSEN! I am a winner! I will not do againooooooo, then in the next year they are back, And other tongues that will need interpretation.

In da name of JESUS, I decree & declare ; our children will not be cut down at their prime, they shall live into a very ripe old age in good health.

We shall be celebrated bc of our children. We will not hear, kpelle, ndo, ehyah, sorry oo. Concerning our children, we shall hear, u are blessed, u are highly favored, well done oo.

As Abraham did not bury Isaac, we shall not bury any of our children.

Our children are for signs & wonders.

We shall see our great great great grand chi

  42. Please don't put the blame on doctors only. The pharmacist that dispensed the drug should have reviewed the prescription first to know if it meets with the indication and best for the patient.. So sad we don't really practice clinical pharmacy in Nigeria .we only dispense if not the problem would have been avoided. Rest in peace

All you saying that is why they fly abroad; do you know that same mistakes happens here too?
Stella Oduah is a Nigerian Politician, what stops her and her likes to help built a reputable health system in Nigeria?

The hospital her son died in is not even a Nigerian hospital but Turkish! Majourity of Nigerians patronised anything international abandoning anything Nigerian.
I pray God give them the strength to bear their loss. A mother should not bury a child no matter what.

  49. So painful, take heart ma and may God grant you the fortitude to bear the loss but he looks older than the mama and the mama looks too young to be a mother of 28years old. One thing must kill a man but reckless death is too painful

    1. Why didn't US doctors save Prince? BTW who killed Michael Jackson? Is it a Nigerian Doctor?
Very stupid idiot. Drug reactions are not caused by doctors, they occur just like food allergy reactions. It is unique to all individuals. People like you are used as lab rats abroad. I am sure they must have harvested your kidney for sale. BTW, Julius Agwu is back to hospital, why didn't Oyibo doctors get it right?
