Actor Prince Eke Rants ''How Can A Church Own A School And The Poor Cannot Attend?

I dont have an answer to his question but please read through and let us know if you agree or disagree with his rant!

How can a church own a school and the poor can't attend it...? How can you be teaching people how they can make it to the kingdom of God when they can't enter your own earthly 'kingdom', built with people's tithes and donations...? How can Christian schools be the most expensive schools in Nigeria now...? How can one relate this to the term "Christianity" with regards to the "Early Christian Community" ?
Note: Most of the good people in the world now have nothing to do with christianity, just like most Christians are far from it too.
Another academic session, and parents are paying through their noses to send the kids back to school.
A word will always be enough for the wise! Happy a nice day!

    4. There is nothing true about talk. Church is run as a charity. School is strictly business. There is nowhere in the world that post primary education is free. In the USA,UK, Canada and other developed nations there are student loans for those who want tertiary education. If churches run schools for free how would they pay their staff? How would they develop infrastructure and equip the schools? Even the federal government is struggling to keep public schools afloat. They can't even pay teachers. How much more churches? People should stop posting things on public media without proper research. And no I don't own a school. I am a parent who currently who 2 children in secondary school. Evidence shows that mission schools are far cheaper than other private schools in Nigeria. Practically all former presidents and their VP's and other former and current political office holders in Nigeria own schools. Go check out the school fees and compare with what mission schools are charging.

Even if one doesn't donate up to #20000 in total, other poor people have donated to, but you don't see all the poor going to seek admission in those schools.

    6. Annon 13:10. I was expecting a sheep like you to come defend their pastor. Even if what they donated was small, ever heard of a "widows mite"? Ofcos not. Churches don't preach about that again. They want almost all you have. A rich man might have donated 1mill but in the sight of God, it isn't worth more than the 1k a poor man struggle to donate. I remember back in school when "church fellowships" will be nearly bullying church members especially church workers to buy their pastor something just cos another fellowship bought something similar for theirs. A pastor shldnt be a billionaire, he shldnt live a life of luxury on other peoples sweat. That goes against everything the early Christians stood for. Even Jesus himself said "it's easier for a rich man to go through the eye of a needle than enter the kingdom of God". Most of you don't actually read your bible or focus on God. It's always "my pastor,my pastor".
The last straw for me was when the "Heaven's Gate" actress Caroline Johnson died of Leukaemia. I had seen her a few months ealier begging for donations and I was surprised cos the pastor of the church that ran the tv show is a freaking billionaire.

    1. It is not happening in US. Churches here (not sure about Nigerian churches located here) offer tuition at a discounted rate and at times free calculated based on the income of family if they are members of the church. Base tuition is lower for members of the church. and if you have a need based on reduced or no income, churches are willing to lessen tuition further or even offer free tuition.

  13. There is nothing to wonder. Running a school isn't a small thing. Running a private primary school is so much work talk more or a university. For a primary school you are dealing with getting even standard facilities without the aid of the federal government, then imagine a university doing same

They have to get every facility every department they have needs. Thats pricing labs, facilities, and much more. Have you seen the standard in a federal university?? Seem everything provided there?? How every equipment and facility is up to date? That's same thing with private. And they have to get all this things on their own. Maintenance is also on them. Paying salaries is on them. Even down to the hostels and all. Federal university take about 20- 50k for some schools.

State university take about 100k-150k.because their help is from state level only which isn't so much

You now expect a school that is funded, maintained and catered for by an individual to be cheap?? Please you people should step back. It's Sha not by force to go to private university. Go to the one that you can afford or the one your children can afford..

Have you heard of private schools going on strike? If you plan 4yrs, you graduate in 4yrs. But in federal and state, 4yrs is 5yrs sometimes 6yrs.. Because of one reason or the other or something the federal government is delaying to carry out.

    3. The white missionaries did it and the schools weren't expensive, so why can't our indigenous churches do it???? Its indeed hypocritical. Those schools were built with peo's money, so why are you asking the same peo to pay fees again???? Yes, Teachers have to be paid and the facilities have to be upgraded...but a church is an NGO and every thing established by the church should be charity based. Its better not to establish those schs at all....Stella, the Universities established by churches are usually the most expensive...they have turned church to a business venture and its simply not right.

Because the church contributed and the school was built doesn't mean the owner didn't add his own money and didn't get donations. And before you come and start talking I'm catholic.

When you say the poor contributed to build the school, how much exactly did they contribute?? 500 naira to 5000 naira? And because one person contributed 5000 naira, they school fees should be 3500?? What about the very rich people that contributed from 100k,200k,1m,5m,20m,100m,500m? They should now say what?
I have an aunty who has a primary schools do secondary school in Lagos, and the school is top notch. I know what she spends to maintain that school and keep it at the standard it is in. So there is nothing to wonder when it has to do with university

Mostly from robbing the masses blind. Any man that can donate 500m will most likely not send his child to a school in Nigeria when he has better options abroad. Mind you, most of the parents of the kids attending these schools didn't contribute a dime. I know Muslims and Catholics in these schools.

No one is forced to give. If they call out for tithe and you don't have sit down. If they say first, second, third offering and you don't have, don't give. Sit down. It's not by force at all. No one was forced to give at any point.

For the one asking if my husband is a pastor, no, we are catholics but when you people think pastors survive on offerings and tithe the I have to say something. I have been invited to different pentecostal churches for programs and all and some how I know a church doesn't run its self.

Even I'm catholic church were they ate not money conscious like pentecostal, you are still a seed to pay your tithe catholic do first and second offering

We are advice to sow seeds

When programs are coming up, they ask for donation and contribution. Where people give our a lot of money and this money is spent for one program or the other

I'm sure it's not different from pentecostal

    7. Fab mum, I guess you never knew how these "church schools" were built... Let me state the 2 cogent donations made by the (misguided) poor. 1) Their money which you asked how much they contributed simply because it's little to you but to them it's their all! A person who has #500 and parts with #450 in the name of building a "church school" contributed more than the person who has #5m and gave #500k. And 2) This poor people devoted their time and energy working for free as labourers as charged by the "GOs". And when the school was finally built, fees are not less than #300k. And not solid provision for the wards of this poor families who gave their all to the coming to life of this schools. Unfair and WICKED!

  18. It doesn't matter how much the poor people contributed, Churches should try and make their schools attendable for the poor too.
Most Churches have been blinded by riches and wealth forgetting the ways of Christ.

Looking at it from another view, I'll say is the government fault. If the states and federal government have made schools own by them accessible with good teachers and facilities,(without monthly strike) there would have been no rooms for almost all the Churches in Nigeria to own schools.
But government officials abandoned states and federal government own schools because they all send their children to private or Church own schools.
I pray and hope the minister of education look into the huge sum parents are paying for their children most especially in schools that are own by Churches.
