Where the Docs?

BABY WITH SQUINT
Seven months ago, I birthed a beautiful baby, My First Fruit. From 4 months, I noticed she had a slight squint but everyone said it will clear off since she's tender.

At 5 months, I couldn't resist the urge and took her to the Federal Medical Centre in my city for checkup, they looked confused really and prescribed an eye drop to "dilate the pupils " and said I should come in 2days time, I did and they started arguing again on why I was given the eyedrop o.

They started treatment by sedating her twice ( she didn't respond to the 1st dose) and at the end of the day, no diagnosis. A doctor I confided in said surgery was the best bet but she has to get to 2 years. The hospital said I should come in a month time for more "undefined " treatment. I decided not to go anymore (A mum's instincts).

She's 7 months now, its still obvious though its  slight. Its rarely noticed except she turns sideways but I want it gone. ‎Please my blog fam, I need ideas and suggestions on what to do or where to go or has anyone experienced this and how did it go?

 Please help a mum.
Thanks again.

‎Love you all.

    4. My dear please take your child to an eye specialist. My nephew is cross eyed and we all taught genetics because my father and sister have the same thing. Anyway my nephew just had tests for school and it was discovered he's almost blind in one eye and all the while we thought it was genes.the Doctor said if we had come sooner it could have been operated on. He'll be 9 soon. Now he wants glasses to school with very different prescriptions one eye us -1.45 and the other -14. He also wears an eye patch that helps to force the lazy eye to work. It's slow but it works. So please go to a specialist and if necessary have surgery done. All the best dear.

  3. If its half past four eyes ,do surgery like the doctors told you.If you there's no money, you let her be.I've seen so nay ladies with that kind of eyes & they're beautiful. Why is it referred as half past four eyes self?

  4. Which of the eyes was the eye drop instilled?
I do hope for your baby's sake it's the good eye.
Yes often time an eye drop is instilled but the catch is,it has to be put in the good eye to blur it's vision and not on the affected eye
Since you don't wana wait till she's 2 for the surgery,id advice you get an eye patch and patch up the good eye meaning she has to make use of the affected eye...The eye patch has to be worn daily if she can withstand it or better still worn for couple of hours in the day.
You might end up not needing surgery afterall but then you've got to be patient cos this won't just magically correct the eye,its may take weeks or months

    Goodluck

    1. Yes you are right, I don't think your baby needs any surgery just stick to this advice and it will surely work for her. Good luck.

    2. Yup, cover the good eye for intervals. The lazy eye would be forced to work.

My younger sister had the squint too. Interestingly, it disappeared on its own when she was still an infant

  5. It's well with your bubs madam. Your baby has what can also be called a "lazy eye"

If you can pls opt for the surgery or you can ask them to patch the good eye thereby forcing the lazy one to focus more.

    Hope this helps.

  13. I know a first class medical doctor that has those kind of eyes. She is female too. Pls, the risk of a surgery is higher than you can imagine. Leave that child alone with her eyes. I beg you. It's not a deformity!

  14. Poster, there's nothing wrong with that baby's eye. What if after the surgery, it becomes worse or otherwise?

  15. Poster, why not let the baby be? Sorry to sound insensitive but I only said it cos of the Nigerian medical practitioners that use people for experiment.

  18. They may say that those wey their eyed dey straight never get husband finish e com be squint! Do follow that and cause damage where damage no deyoo. If she were blind when. Squint eyed men marry the most beautiful girls sometimes. Why? Because they have something irrestible, whatever that may be but yes they have. If your daughter is well brought up and is a humble asset, yes humility is very important, you and your daughter may fi d out that a man, a good man, may find her irtestible claiming that her squint makes his ojukwu to suru na ala, Gowon ya eriba motor, if you understand what I mean.
    So think.

  19. My elder sister once had a child like that and my mum her sleeping position during pregnancy that caused it, that she always sleep facing up and she corrected it then by pressing breast milk into the baby eyes but I am not so sure is same with the squint.

  21. @ I am the queen and boss of this Blog:

I am a very silent observer of the forum but reading your comment really pissed me of. Do you really know the fact for you to make insensitive statement? I realize that people are just generally negative and unhappy and can never be positive..and I think you are one of those people.... Your statement is a reflection of who you are.....I am not judging you but I empathize with you and pray that you find happiness that you need.

  22. About squint, my baby was suspected to HV it at 6weeks check buh at 6months, it was gone. Meanwhile, its not DAT a serious issue. Most kids in d UK r prescribed plastic lenses till it clears. U shld see a proper optician for less invasive methods bfr surgery.

  23. Poster take your child to a pediatric ophthalmologist. You don't need to go to a private hospital if you can't afford it. If you are in Lagos, go to LUTH or Nigerian Air force or Army eye clinic. All the best. Treat it as early as you can because it's much harder to treat after a certain age.

Are you writing from experience? Pls let her seek help from the specialist instead of websites because the Child need to be examined, test conducted, treatment options weighed carefully cos the eye is a sensitive organ.. Not all sqint is corrected with patch. The first 2years is the best time for any correction
