Dr Adedunmola Oluwo -The Small Town Girl Who Achieved More Than A Medical Degree

Dr Adedunmola Oluwo, a 24 year old Nigerian lady from Abeokuta, Ogun State, went against all odds to achieve a feat most people would consider impossible...

The recently graduated medical Doctor, who attended University of Debrecen Hungary, challenged herself to start not one or two businesses while in Medical School but four unique businesses. Aside from owning these four businesses, she was the only one running it as a one-man team with no help whatsoever .

At the age of 17 when she moved to Hungary for her studies, she started her first business, Hair by Dedun, as a means to get extra cash for monthly stipends but ended up making more than enough from the business. As an inquisitive lady, she decided to try her hands on baking just for the fun of it and luckily for her, a friend tasted one of her delicious cakes and placed the first order.

This was four years ago when Dedun's Cakes, the biggest Cakes and Pastry business owned by a student in Hungary, was born.

Due to the high demand from the Nigerian students for some nostalgic home food, Dr Dedun, as she's fondly called, ventured into the Nigerian food catering business, serving delicious home away from home meals to her fellow students. She calls it DedunCooks.

Recently, she discovered her love for make-up application and after musing with her friends, she decided to enroll in a make-up school in her final year of Medical School. She has now added Belle Artistry by Dedun to her successful list of Businesses.

She is also a lifestyle and inspirational writer on a self-named blog, www.drdedun.com. She focuses mainly on students but occasionally writes on general life experiences that any age group can relate to. Her aim is to spread positivity, encouragement and inspire people through her life's story.

One would think this ambitious young lady would stop there but her love for business and medicine is one she doesn't want to give up on. All along, her plan was to save enough money to relieve her retired Single Mother, who has supported her throughout her medical journey, the stress of paying for her dream of attaining a Masters degree. Her determination and courage finally paid off when she successfully enrolled and sponsored herself in a Business School to study Msc Health Management.

This young achiever is worth celebrating. Not only has she made Nigeria proud by representing them in good light in the diaspora, she has also managed to be financially stable and independent from her loving mother.

I'm sure her family is proud of her, we should be too.

Congratulations Dr Adedunmola Oluwo

the other day I said I didn't want to do my masters in nig. Someone came and was cussing me out. My dear, when you study under some settings you will indeed be limited. Abroad, you have your timetable 1 year in advance you can plan your life around it. In Nigeria, when I was doing small biz as an undergrad, it is the day I travel to re-stock I will get a call saying lecturer came and gave test on Friday morning (unannounced) when his next Lecture was supposed to be on Monday afternoon. And they won't reset for you even if you beg from now till next year.
Indeed you will nyash down somewhere. This is why my children must not see what I've seen. They will be better than me. Amen

  13. Well done to this Nigerian lady representing us in Hungary, it just to shows how determined and ambitious we are as Nigerians, this was even evident by Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook when he said, he sees the shear determination to succeed from Nigerians.

I don't understand why people have started putting her state of origin into it; as far as am concerned, I see a Nigerian making her country proud, irrespective of her ethnicity background.

  21. Lesson to our people in authority -

create conducive and enabling environment and see Nigerians do wonders
With all that is embedded in her. She couldn't have achieved all these studying in Nigeria where studies are not regulated. Where students don't know when the are free before hand and plan to use their spare time for something else without clashing with arbitrarily scheduled classes, tests, exams, seminars etc. Where students can be called up for lectures or test at night, on weekends and such other odd times.where your project or assignment can be delayed unnecessarily thereby eating into the time you can use for other productive ventures.
In Hungary and other climes inhabited by real humans, education is stress free and you know ahead of time when you are scheduled for what

    1. You are truly a youngman with lots of sense in his head. @ youngman.

    2. Kai! For once I agree with you. You made so much sense. One politician was talking down our youths the other day, comparing them to Jason and Mark of FB, but he said nothing about the poor state Nigeria is in to nurture talent. I think Nigerian youths are trying so hard to beat all the odds they contend with daily. That is why they flourish in a conducive environment. Most of them politicians send their kids to the best schools abroad, but put down Nigerian kids who are doing their best with the present circumstances.

    3. You are very right. Where there is a standard educational structure, students will thrive better. I could only do this by adequate planning ahead of time.

    3. It's everyone's dream to go to an ivy league school but do you know there are better schools than those you've mentioned? My university is outstanding and I'm an equal/colleague to whoever went to an ivy league. Even some Unis in Nigeria are very good but our society/govt won't help push them forward.

  38. Hnmmm... I must confess I'm really proud of you girl, infact, Nigeria is proud of you , achieving all these at age 24 is something you should always thank God for... I wish people would have reasons to celebrate me also when I'm 24 cos I'm 23 now, though I'm striving hard to put my leisure time into productive uses, but Nigeria is a country with many hindrances socially, economically and financially. I have promised myself to overcome all these factors... So help me God(amen)
