EFCC Set To Pick Patience Jonathan Over $15m Scandal

Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, will soon be a guest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the $15.6m traced to four other accounts linked to her.

This is just as detectives of the anti-graft agency visited the Skye Bank branch on Adeola Hopewell, Victoria Island, where the accounts were opened and obtained the documents containing her financial information.

Punch quoted sources as saying that the detectives had been able to establish a prima facie case of money laundering and forgery against Patience.

It will be recalled that as part of investigations into a former Special Adviser to the President on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa, the EFCC traced four company accounts to him all domiciled at Skye Bank.

The bank accounts of the four companies — Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited; Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited; Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited; and Globus Integrated Service Limited — were said to have been opened with stolen identities.

A detective at the EFCC said, “After three months of investigation, I can confirm to you that we are set to invite Patience Jonathan. We obtained the files from the bank and we realised that those accounts with the $15m were opened with fake identity cards, including driving licences.

“We took the cards and went to the Federal Road Safety Corps to verify if the cards were authentic. We found out that the cards were fake. So, this is not just money laundering but a clear case of fraud. If they had nothing to hide, why did they go to this length?”

While the companies have pleaded guilty, Patience insists that the money belongs to her but claims she does not know the companies.

In an affidavit, one Sammie Somiari deposed to on behalf of Patience, Mrs. Jonathan claimed that Dudafa helped Patience to open the bank accounts in 2010.

However, EFCC investigations revealed that the accounts were opened between 2013 and 2014.

EFCC will never convict anybody simply because they don't work like professionas.she is taking them to court and she will surly win the case. The onus that this money was gotten illegally is on EFCC and not her. You can't ask her to do ur job for you,by asking her how she got the money, its ur duty(EFCC)to investigate and prove‭ the money was stolen.its just like a police man sees you on the road driving a fine car, nice shoes and expensive phone,he stops you and the next thing he says ur under arrest,if you cant explain how you got the cash,he will arrest you but he can never win such a case in court, because he has no evidence linking you to a crime.I know hypocrites that can't explain how they got human hair and iPhone 7 will disagree.

    2. Anon 13:54, you sound like someone that is not in Nigeria. How was the EFCC able to make Metuh and the rest beg on bended knees to return the money after all the noise they made initially?
As it is now, they have facts that patience Obtained the said accounts with wrong Identities, the people she used their identities are alive and we're her domestic staff. That is already an advanced fraud facts. The rest is easy to prove. The Bank will give blueprints of where the money came from, or you expect them to reveal all the evidence to newsmen.
There are laws governing opening of bank accounts. Under no circumstance can you defend someone opening 5 accounts with different names, claiming she doesn't know them yet the money belongs to her. Only her will confess during cross examination.
They don't even have a good defence team, the Lawyer has even dug her grave by himself, what is remaining is for him to push her in. Endtime identity thief.
In developed countries, they will arrest a murderer for maybe traffic offence or minor assault charges and just buy time to build the murder case . As they are releasing you on the minor crime, they re arrest you and then put the person behind bars as long as he deserves. These people looted without believing Buhari will win, they covered no tracks. The evidence will be overwhelming. That was why Metuh attempted to eat his own evidence, he never knew they had such evidence.

Ann:16:42 normally I don't reply people that are not up to 18yrs cos dey won't understand. I know ur above 18,u dint us abusive words,u we're only making your point.in the case of metuh, you we're not there when he said I did it he claimed he gave those statement on duress and it was not him that wanted to return money ,but his family. Do you know that he fell sick under EFCC detention? Mind you I'm not in support of anybody, im only saying we are humans and all humans most be guarded by low.with out the law we are nothing and why most it be only her? There is no rich man or woman in Nigeria today that dint still, if younmostbgo for her go for all, or else the the ones left will continue and spoil the system again.

Because even if she has stolen and had been helping the poor masses out of it, I would have supported her. You will be suprised that those she even helped will keep away, if you know anything about power and relevance, you would know that once you no longer in power, no 1 respects you anymore. Only a few are revered after they vacate seat of power, eg, obasanjo, Tinubu, Babangida etc, because they empowered soooo many. Samething people like you said during last presidential election, "if Jonathan loses, nigeria will not know peace".. You think anyone is ready to lose their assets? The people that you are waiting for to cause trouble have a lot at stake. All man for himself. This case with Patience how ever, was poorly ochestrated from the get go, that SSA should be flogged. Too many errors. That's why others before the jonathans haven't been caught cos they were maticulate in their laundering scheme. She will just be collateral damage and a scape goat.

    1. Agreed she's not expected to be poor but 6billion. Come on that's a ridiculous amount of money no matter the kind if business you are into, that's absurd ,besides all she need to do is prove how the money was made.is that simple.

    2. That's all I ve been saying o. Somebody whose husband was a a speaker of tate house, then a governor!then a vice president, then a president, was she expected to be penniless? For crying out loud only bribery from those seeking favour from the president when he was in power can amount to that money. there re so many government official in power now that have more than that amount in their accounts but because they av not stepped on toes they re enjoying immunity should begin sanitation in their homes.

      Delete
    3. Yes she shouldn't be poor, but not a billionaire in dollars without having a legitimate source of those funds, like owning multi-billion Naira businesses. She has declared none publicly so it raises questions. The mere fact that those accounts were opened fraudulently raises sooooo many red flags. If they were all in her name, trust me, the case would have died down as quicly as it started, after all she's not the 1st former 1st lady. Too many school boy errors with those accounts.

  14. Hmmmm! This is one woman the EFCC and Nigerian government should be careful in dealing with. Mama Patience is a sly and highly unpredictable lady. I believe she has and knows the dirty secrets of these so called 'high and mighty' change agents. I repeat it, no past or present leader in this country of ours is innocent of corruption and social vices. All this partisan witchhunting is an unnecessary distraction to the big problems currently enslaving our nation. By the way, what has become of the monies recovered from the past looters? What will be the case of known looters like our past governor of Rivers state - Chibuike Amaechi? When will such perpetrators in the APCshit camp be brought to book. But I guess these are all questions for the gods. I rest my case!

Not to now talk of a 1st lady. Are you aware patience was collecting as much as $100k USD as access fee to see her president husband? But that shouldn't now amount to $20m USD in just one bank. So much goes on in power that you will weep at your misfortune in life.
