Ooni Unveils Drum Of Peace To Unite The World...

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11 has given a new meaning to the tradition of his people by unveiling the drum of peace for the universe to widen the cultural heritage.


Oba Ogunwusi made this known at a dinner organised at his palace by Ayan Agalu Soungobi Foundation in celebration of the foundation's ten years of promoting the African talking drum.

Oonirisa said that vicious sound of many drums bring emotions that inspire excitement and passion.


The monarch ascertained that drum is epitome of peace in our household, LG, State, Nigeria, continent of Africa, black race and entire world.

He stated that drum is one of the veritable tool for the creation of peace and unity in the olden days which can be useful for us today.



He added that African drums hold a special place in the history of Africa, adding that in Western culture, the idea of drumming is not only associated with entertainment but speaks to us as a people. He said drums was used by our ancestors as an act of communication especially during battles or war and it was usually used to make peace thereafter.




According to him, the drum adds to the musical quality of a song, as well as symbolic and historical meaning which accompany all manners of ceremony such as births, burials, marriages together with a ritual dance.

Oba Ogunwusi pledged his support for the Foundation to take the dream throughout the universe and appealed to all and sundry to value our culture and tradition

Earlier, the Ambassador of Drum of Peace, Mrs Aralola Olamuyiwa, whose profession is drumming, lauded the royal father for being a lover of peace.

Ara, as she's popularly known, noted that the monarch has been promoting unity among the traditional rulers since his investiture to his forefathers stool.







She said that drum plays significant role in every aspect of Yorubaland, for it creates awareness and boost Yoruba culture.

According to her, it is very unique in communication sector in the olden days and its impact among Africans cannot be over emphasised.

Among the drums that contributed to the tradition and cultural values are: Omele, Iya-Ilu, Bata, Gangan among others.

Also, the Project Director for drum of peace and the CEO of the Foundation Mr Daramola Morakinyo, lamented on the challenges the Foundation had been facing for the past ten years in promoting the culture.

Morakinyo opined that the cooperation of the monarch would eulogise the Foundation to promote drum of peace globally.
