DSS Presents A Summary of Monies Recovered From Some Justices

The Department of State Services, DSS said that they are seriously and vigorously investigating some judges on allegations of unprofessional conduct and fraudulent practices. The DSS made this known in a press statement made available to the media on today in Abuja.

The statement read thus;
“The Department of State Services (DSS) in the past few days, has embarked on series of special sting operations involving some Judges of the Supreme, Appeal and High Courts. These operations were based on allegations of corruptions and other acts of professional misconduct by a few of the suspected Judges. The Service action is in line with its core mandate, as we have been monitoring the expensive and luxurious lifestyle of some of the Judges as well as complaints from the concerned public over judgment obtained fraudulently and on the basis amounts of money paid.

The judges involved were invited, upon which due diligence was exhibited and their premises searched. The searches have uncovered huge raw cash of various denominations, local and foreign currencies, with real estate worth several millions of Naira and documents affirming unholy acts by these Judges.

Meanwhile, some of them have made useful statements while a few have declined even with the glaring evidences that were found against them in terms of material cash, documents and property recovered pointing to their compromise.

In one of the States where the Service operations were conducted, credible intelligence revealed that the Judge had Two Million United States Dollars ($2,000,000 USD) stashed in his house. When he was approached for due search to be conducted, he in concert with the State Governor, mobilized thugs against the Service team. The team restrained itself in the face of unbridled provocative activities by those brought in by the Governor. Unfortunately, the Judge and Governor also engaged the tacit support of a sister security agency.

The Service surveillance team noticed that upon frustrating the operation, the Judge with the active support of the Governor craftily moved the money to an unknown location which the Service is currently making effort to unravel.

Meanwhile, large amount including foreign/local currencies have been recovered. Summaries of these include:

SUMMARY OF RECOVERED MONEY
1.   NAIRA          –      N93,558,000.00
2.    DOLLARS   –      $530,087
3.    POUNDS    –      £25,970
4.    EURO        –      €5,680
Other foreign currencies were also recovered. This were recovered from just three (3) of the judges.
These in addition to other banking documents, including real estate documents have been recovered. Meanwhile preparations are ongoing to arraign them in a competent court of jurisdiction in line with the laws of the nation.

The Service would want to clearly state that it has never invited Justice Walter NKANU ONNOGHEN for investigation, neither is he being investigated by this Service. In addition the Service would like to put it on record, that it has tremendous respect for the Judiciary and would not do anything to undermine it or its activities. The Service will also join hands with this noble institution in its fight to rid it of few corrupt Judges whose actions is undermining not only the Judiciary but the common bond of our national life.

Ladies and gentlemen, this current operation will be sustained and followed till sanity and sanctity is restored to the esteemed third arm of government and public confidence is regained.
Members of the public are also encouraged to avail the Service of any information which could assist in this drive to rid our nation of corrupt practices and tendencies.”

Abdullahi GARBA,
Department of State Services, Abuja.

OMG! OMG! This Judges are corrupt! How come they did not take the money to the bank if it's money gotten legally. This is where Abia State money is roasting, hence the poor state of Abia state because the money has being used to bribe all this corrupt Judges. May God vindicate Abia state. DSS pls. also investigate the source of the money. I know that all the Politicians that bribe them are shaking already, no wonder Wike woke up at that odd hour to save the Judge corrupt ass. Ndi Ohi Judges!!!

First of all, I am a bit confused here. Are Judges civil servants? All these tremendous amounts of cash stacked in people's houses are almost unbelievable. The country is already in a mess, these hoarding pulls currency from circulation and creates scarcity which is killing the Naira. You can hardly see an American or Briton with upto 100dollars or 40ppunds cash. That is why their currency is well maintained in the money markets.
Even common Judges has 2million dollars in cash, 25k pounds, not to talk of the Naira equivalent.
I heard some people are now digging money pits in the house. God please save your children.

When did it become their duty to investigate corruption? Whats the efcc for? So now you start abducting people based on allegation abi? So why hasnt pmb chief of staff that collected 500m from mtn been abducted by the sss?
It is wrong for the sss to evade the house of any judge without a court order and i support the people of rivers in their stand against such nonsense. If you think you habe such info, go through the right channel.
As far as am concerned o, seeing 4m naira cash in the house of a judge ahouldnt be anything. Those guys are the most taken care of public servants in nigeria. Ask around, am super sure of supreme court justices as they are given brand new cars and they can travel anywhere on vacay with their family on the govt bill once a yr, etc

HRH EKEH ( King of all Kingdoms) said...

They were alleged to have collected bribes?, allegations are not facts.besides, since when did the DSS turn police/efcc that are saddled with the responsibility of arresting people at night for financial crimes?, why didnt they invite them if they had any case against any of them as alleged? why carry out arrest at midnight?

Well that kind of commando style of arrest should have been carried against Abubakar shekau in sambisa forest not against a judge.

This is welcome development. These theives in wigs are putting a strain on the efcc's effort to prosecute the politicians and they keep adjourning cases to frustrate the effort of the fight against corruption. The stupid law only works for the rich while the poor spend years in jail due to the corrupt practices of this judges. I love the commando style of invasion, thats how to treat blacks. Nonsense

I think the Vice President should speak under his watch they broke in to the homes of judges. Anyways judges are not paupers they earn well and so find monies in their homes is not far fetched some of them have being at the supreme court for years so what are we talking about here.

Anonymous said...

Even if the money was found in their homes, how is it there business? The general that has a house in dubai has he been arrested or anything done to him? How much is it again to own qa house in dubai and how much does the general earn? Does the general earn more than a judge?

And yes show us the money since it was found in their houses. Take our tires and show us. You are going about talking rubbish because those you have under your custody can't defend their selves since you have denied them that right...

All this government can' do is blackmail people because they know giblets citizens will believe anything about stolen money

Shyla said...

When someone hoards over $2m dollars in his house, how will exchange rate not be affected? No money in circulation. Those who make the law are the ones killing us. If it was genuine money, take it to the bank.

Late justice Kayode Eso said it before he died that most judges are billionaires and living above their means.
I didn't comment on Wike's post yesterday because they all know what we common men don't know.

I like benevolent dictators just like the late human rights crusader Gani. This is what we need in our federation. A very ruthless benevolent dictator. For me this is the only way we would move forward as a nation. NBA should also be kind enough to declare a state of emergency in respect of senior lawyers and retired judges who are used as a front to bribe judges. The poor cannot access justice in our nation because of excessive corruption....Ehimare
