Labour Room Drama 52

Talk about the drama before the birth and you have it here..

Hmm Stella, I am now one of your biggest fans o! Especially this labour room drama series,it keeps reminding me of mine.

Well most people sending in theirs are married and all, mine is slightly different because I'm not married. In my third year in school, my boyfriend and I decided to gbensh without condom o and that was it. I got pregnant, of course very typical of student boyfriends, he asked me to take it out as he is still in school blah blah blah. I sha refused, then he backed off and left me to my fate. OK o!

So I started rocking my new status, my tummy wasn't growing fast although the baby was growing fine. I be lepa you see and I can chop fruits for Africa. The only thing really growing was my "Manchester" and "Arsenal". From the moment I found my self pregnant, sex ended, as boyfriend change am for me na.

Whenever I thought of how my labour would be, I would get scared because I lazy for pain die. My friends then will tell me " Babe, e sure for me say Na Operation u go take born cos u too dey fear pain and u haven't had sex in a while". I began to Google exercises to make the "kinikan" enlarge well during birth.

So fast forward to a month before the EDD my doctor gave me. I woke up that morning with a pain. I thought it was normal, then I put a call to my friend, a doctor too, she advised me to take my bag and go to the hospital as my baby might be on his way. In my mind I was like " why na, not today".

The pain was coming like every 30 minutes. I quickly put a call to my parents that I'm coming to Lagos, my school is in Ilorin. I already told myself I must give birth in Lagos where my parents are, didn't want to stress my mummy by making her come down to Ilorin for "omugo" and all. My mum was like stay behind, just go to the hospital you registered for antenatal. I refused, I know I can be very Stubborn sha. I just packed a little bag and got ready to leave.

As I was leaving the compound, one of my neighbours, a woman, was like "ah, iyawo, stay back in Ilorin o,so you don't give birth to abiona". I said no, I already told God it will be in Lagos, can't be stressing mumsy. Then this my neighbour said OK, I should look for a stone, I looked nearby and found one, then she tied the stone to the end of my scarf, and told me to tie the scarf round my stomach, that as long as the stone is tied there, my baby won't come down. That way I can get to the hospital first before he comes down. I don't know why I listened to her, maybe the pain was thinking for me and the thought of putting to birth on d way.

With the scarf tied to my waist, I found my way to the park. Oh boy! I was limping, my right leg was hurting and felt really heavy, luckily for me, the sienna bound for Lagos needed one more passenger. I hopped in and sat down. Oh lawd! The pain I was feeling no be here o. I couldn't sit well as my right leg was seriously hurting, I practically sat on one bumbum, resting my whole weight on my left leg. The driver was driving really fast, like he knew. The lady seated by me was like " driver, please o, there is a pregnant woman here,go slowly ". In my mind I was like abeg speed away, I just couldn't wait to be in the hospital, calls were coming in,i tried to pick some, others I left.

Whenever the pain became unbearable, I would grab the next passenger's hand. God bless that lady wherever she is. When I got to berger, which was my stop, immediately I alighted from the car, mehn, I couldn't walk again. I just stood there and started crying. My parents were calling as it was agreed they would come and pick me up at berger. I couldn't pick the call, I just stood in a spot, crying, thinking of how I would take the staircase down( if you know ojodu berger, you would understand) .

One man sha came to me and asked if I was okay, I couldn't talk, he then helped me with my bag and led me down the stairs to get a taxi to our family hospital. If you see the way I was walking, chai! Well, the man stopped a taxi to take me to the hospital, the first taxi man refused, he was like what if I put to birth in his car. He said he couldn't and drove off. In my mind I was like mo gbe o! Then one other taxi offered to take me there, I sat at the back seat, immediately I sat down, mehn the pain turned to something else. I started screaming, I opened my legs wide and was groaning in pains. The driver was like " just shout Jesus ". Na so I start o. I started chanting " Jesus". All these while my phone was ringing seriously, my family and all.

The hospital is a popular one, so I didn't need to describe the way to the driver. I could hear the driver praying too. As soon as we got to to the hospital, the driver came down and was shouting " nurse nurse! Like Nigerian film, nurses ran out and carried me in. I saw my younger sister with the corner of my eye, but pain no gree me talk. My parents weren't there, it was later I was told as they couldn't get across to me on phone, they drove down to berger to wait and asked my sister to wait at the hospital. I don't know how I remembered to untie the stone from the scarf on my waist. I just know I untied It when I got to the doctor's office. So It's like it worked considering I didn't put to birth on the road.

I don't know what to think about it tho. The doctor on duty started asking me questions " when did you see your last period? When did the pain start?" I was like " doctor, I can't remember o, just help me with the pain". The doctor called a nurse, then they took me to one ward. Then I was placed on drip, d nurse stood by me and was watching me. The pain reduced some how, but would come again like intense menstrual pain( 100 times more than), then it will subside, it kept coming like that and going. Another nurse came in and joined the other one. Then the interval between the pain got shorter and shorter. I heard the first nurse say " you are having a good contraction".

In my mind I was like what is good about this type of pain. Then the pain came fully, no more breaks, I started groaning loudly. Then they took me into the labour room. I can't remember what was going on, all I know was I had the urge to push. The nurse was like "don't push o,or you would have a severe tear". Then she taught me to breathe in and out with my mouth. Come and see the way I was doing it. Then the nurse put her hand into my "kinikan". Oh lawd! That tin dey pain. I sat up and she was like "do you want to kill your baby". I said no. She was like then allow me. The other nurse was busy mopping my head and praying, she was like just say Jesus. I started chanting Jesus again.

Later I will scream mummy!. At a point I was like " I want operation ". The nurse mopping my head was like " in Jesus name, you won't have an operation, you would have a normal birth ".I said "Amen, thank you ma, God bless you ma" . I was saying so many things. I still didn't allow the other nurse do the thing they do with the hands. She was getting angry sef. She then went out and came back with the MD as I wasn't allowing her.

The man know me well, as I be madam sick sick now. He then came in and was like " ah, my daughter, why are you people hurting her now". I felt I was in safe hands. He was then like " don't worry, it won't hurt you again". The next thing I felt was a sharp pain, he gave me a tear. I screamed, then they were like " Push!". Me wey don want push since. I pushed with all my strength, and the pain just sort of vanished with the cry of my baby. I followed the nurse with my eye as she took him to a corner to clean him up, then I went unconscious.

When I woke up,i was in another room with my baby lying in a cot, with my wonderful family all around me. I got up and looked down at my super cute adorable boy, I can't get the right words to describe how happy I felt and still feel having that little boy. Four years gone and I still don't regret it.

To all pregnant women out there, you will all put to birth safely in Jesus name. The God that did it for me,will do it for you too in Jesus name. Amen.
PS ( I couldn't walk well for a few weeks because of the tear)

WOW..so the stone you tied around your waist worked?na wah!!!

  22. Wow, I was smiling all thru reading at the same time feeling all your pains, nice labour story, thank God for safe delivery.

As for the tying of stones round the waist, to delay delivery, I have heard of such thing before, I learnt to prevents miscarriage, there was this lady that always had miscarriage, she has had about 4 miscarriages before someone introduced her to one ijaw woman who tied something in her house to prevent the woman from having miscarriage, I was still young then, so can't remember the details, but unfortunately the pregnancy refuse to stay, they rushed her to the hospital, I think the baby died in her tummy but refused to come out, she was in d hospital for days with severe pains, before she remembered the ijaw woman, she then sent someone to tell the ijaw woman to untie the 'thing', which she did before she was able to push the baby out. Hmm, I don't know how these things work oh.
