Labour Room Drama 73

Thank God for his mercies oh...

Tuale Sterra for the good work you have been doing.
I decided to join the train. So my EDD was first week of January (201...) and by December 27th I started my ML. My elder sister (the most senior) arrived around 28thDecember and it was during Harmattan season. My DH had already taken part of his annual leave to stay with us but the baby refused to come and I guess the appointed time was not ready.

One day, I saw one of the signs and I told my sister and she said… that’s it, I should start climbing the stairs up and down. That was how the exercise started, was on it but I never felt anything just normal heaviness on the down part of my stomach. One week gone and nothing happened. I told her one day that, instead of staying at home doing nothing we should go visit my friend and that was on Tuesday.

We trekked and on getting to her place, my friend told me that she wanted to visit the hospital for check-up (as we use same hospital), so I decided to follow her, immediately the doctor sighted me, he said…ehen madam, you are not going back o, in fact, I should call my people to bring my bag…I laughed because there wasn’t any contraction yet but I stayed since I had already started my Maternity Leave.

I was admitted, the doctor checked me and said that I should stroll around, I did but no contraction. He checked me again and on the process inserted one small drug in my cervix; I quickly asked him what that was for? He said it will help in opening my cervix, I kept quiet. My dear BVNs I didn’t feel any pain.

He came the next day, inserted again, contraction started as if something was biting my lower down abdomen, by that time my big sister and my DH had brought my bag and we were together, she kept praying, called her husband who’s a pastor and they were praying and my DH left.

To the main battle, as soon as the contraction started, it will reduce then increase, kept going like that till I fell asleep. There was another pregnant woman admitted in same room with me, her elderly mum came and saw me, she said, my daughter stand up and start walking around, I obeyed but fell asleep again. I woke up, she started telling me not to shout but be praying and she contributed to my fear by saying that…huh when the real pain started no one will tell me that ‘khaki no be leather’ – hah – sleep disappeared from my eyes viam.

I was just imagining the pain then the doctor came and told me to lie down for another check, I was 3cm dilated…shuo, the mama said something in Igbo, ‘oka-foro 7cm’ I said mama, so all the pain I’ve been feeling is just 3cm dilated and my big sister laughed and said ehen nah. I was like, God please help me.

After a while, a nurse came and said, it’s like we’ll induce you, I started pleading with the nurse, she went and called the doctor who inserted yet another tablet to ripen/help the cervix to open and he was surprised there wasn’t any progress. The pain kept increasing and decreasing and I found myself sleeping again which made the nurse to open the door suddenly and shouted… “you’re sleeping instead of dancing ajasco, but this isn’t normal, let me bring the drip so that we can induce you,” she brought and placed everything, the contraction started with full force but reduced again, that was when my sister started praying more that the devil is at work.

That same day in the night at about “to-8pm”, the doctor came and ruptured the sac and I felt the water by then I had become so weak, I ate and vomited, still on 3cm dilated. He told the nurse that around 10pm I will deliver, it was as if some forces somewhere were laughing at us. Till next day, no show, that was when the doctor said that my DH should come and sign the document for CS, I told him to quickly sign it because I had become so weak to even stand up myself and was feeling the urge that something want to come out i.e.my baby trying to push/come out by himself but the cervix wasn’t opening. Prior to the time of the CS, it reached 4cm, and the nurse checked and discovered that my baby had defecated and she quickly left and called the doctor, that was when I was wheeled to the theatre, given anesthetic, dozed off. I woke up, saw my baby but was asking people “where is my HEAD? I can’t feel my head.”
In fact, I prayed and GOD saved us. Praise Master Jesus.

OMG,I was editing this very early this Morning and that WHERE IS MY HEAD part really made me almost jump out of my skin cos i didnt expect it.
God really saved you oh.
Why is it that when there is a preggy complication,it is only in Nigeria that they say enemies are at work?can it not just be complications?

In some medical emergencies instead of heading to the hospital, some head to church and complicate it further.

    1. My birth story was more scary even thou I had virginal delivery. But I was reading her story where her sister called her pastor husband to fire prayer and the whole the enemy is at work. I was alone in the hospital didn't know jack as I refuse to read about delivery brouhaha so as not to be scared. I am now wondering why I didn't think of enemies or call all my family members😂.
