Labour Room Drama -81

WOW!!!

Dear Stella,

I love your blog because there is never a dull moment and you are doing a great job.

Well I'm a mother of three beautiful kids. I will write on my third delivery because it was a miracle. I never went into labour for my first two deliveries,I was induced both times at 42 and 40 weeks respectively.

For my third baby I carried high all through the pregnancy and at 36 weeks my baby engaged. At 38 weeks I was still working full time. I went for a friend's wedding and danced notwithstanding my big belly. The next day which was a sunday,I woke up feeling very strong, I bath my kids, made breakfast for everyone. My maid was surprised because I always take every opportunity to rest as my job is very hectic.

I started feeling slight backache and I told my five year old daughter to massage my back, this she did at intervals. I have never gone into labour on my own so I didn't know I was having contractions. In the afternoon I made lunch, played with my kids until they got ready for bed. My wonderful daughter massaged my back again before she fell asleep.

At 10pm the backache became more severe and I decided to call my doctor. I tried dialling her number but no credit on my phone so I had to borrow airtime from the network. I finally called my doctor and explained that I was feeling some pains, she advised I come to the hospital for checkup. This was about 10:30pm. I called my dad and within 10 minutes my mum and brother arrived. I didn't bother carrying any luggage. While coming down the stairs case,my mum sprained her ankle. I was just walking fast to the car. We finally got to the hospital at 11pm.

The doctor checked me and said I was only 2cm, she asked my mum to go home and bring my box the next day,as I had the whole night and won't be giving birth until the next day.

My mum is usually the one that stays with me at the hospital each time I put to birth so I had mixed feelings she was leaving but with her injured foot,I pited her.

I was given a bed to lie on but the back ache had increased so I went to sit at the reception and was trying to do some breathing  exercises. The contractions continued on and off until I felt a very strong one. I thought my back had divided into two. I screamed ''come and check me oh''. The doctor came, wore her gloves and did the checking. She was shocked and said I should be taken to labour room immediately.

This was about 12am. She said I was fully dilated. I went into the labour room, they applied lot of olive oil and asked me to push once I felt another contraction, immediately I pushed my water broke,I felt the urge to poo,I pushed again and the baby came out.

This was at 12:30am,I wasn't with any of my baby things. They had to call my mum to bring them.
My baby was cleaned up,they borrowed us pampers and wrapped the baby, not quite long my brother brought my box.  By this time i was back to my bed. He was like, is this how fast it is to put to birth? I said this was exceptional.

I started calling everyone,my hubby was shocked because we had spoken at about 8pm. My friends who were with me at the party the previous Saturday were all shocked. Labour was short but that one contraction was like a hundred in one. To God be the glory. My baby is already two years.

WOW!!..What do you mean when you say your baby engaged?engaged what?Abeg oh,i am learning as well.

    2. It simply means baby's head is down. When u look @ a preggy woman and her tummy is up,baby has not engaged. But when u look and it's like d tummy is looking down means baby is engaged and Can come anytime .

  19. Engaged meaning the baby's head turned and went down. Sometimes the baby's head can turn without going down to the main door. But engaging means it went down to the door waiting for the door to open. .
