The gist is that the government embarked on a river basin project somewhere in Ogun state which as usual has been abandoned. Thanks to the rainy season, the water level has risen to the extent that they need to release some for ease, without providing proper drainage in these areas especially the Isheri Riverview!!!.
Stella if we that live close to Lagos state are having this experience, I cannot fathom what the people that live close to the dam are experiencing.
Governor Amosun and his wife claim to be climate advocates, I am confused if this isn't magnanimous a project for them to embark upon. Abeg help us broadcast this one, I'm surprised Channels TV hasn't said anything about it when they are my next door neighbors.
It's really urgent as the rains are still upon us and the area has a good population of snakes, alligators and such.

ReplyDeleteI wonder what Amosun is doing as a governor of ogun state, i went to visit a friend at Agbado area come and see river Niger in that road, i had to park my car to join danfo to cross the water to the other side, while inside the danfo we all carried our legs up because water was entering.

ReplyDeleteOgun State, never prepared for the rains or opening of dam. Assuming that they had completed Alagbole-Akute road, people living in Denro and environs could pass through Akute. The suffering in these areas no be here o.You cannot pass the river with your car. Look at what is happening at Berger, Lagos! I pray Governor Amosu will wake up from his slumber and do the needful.

I pray that all of you gloating never know human tragedy in your lives. The heart of man is desperately wicked. ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, there are intricate issues that are far beyond what the naked eye can see and a case of conflicting interest where these poor residents are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. The dam was built for electricity generation, security, and flood control. Instead, the operators have found other lucrative purposes for the dam in the format of providing a fishing industry for various multinationals to the detriment of the residents downstream who bear the brunt of these floods.
Management of the dam is systematically starved of funding, likewise no suitably qualified Surface Water Engineers are employed anywhere in any dam throughout Nigeria to effectively manage our dams, and so what can we expect? Contrary to popular opinion, it isn't the fault of State Government, so people blaming Amosun are misguided. The dam belongs to and is (Mis)managed by the federal government. IT is their sole responsibility, the State is simply guilty by association but not really to blame, although they ought to help bring the federal government's attention to the self induced calamity for financial gain against preservation of human life and limb, or should I say quality of life lest I sound too melodramatic.? The truth be told, Government sold this land in Riverview to residents, and so it behoves them the do the right thing, instead of turning a blind eye to all this suffering.
I only pray that someone, anyone with a heart within the Presidency pays the necessary attention to the plight of its people in Riverview Isheri Estate and comes to their aid. This is so unfair. NO NIGERIAN should have to live like this in this day and age. May God help us all............
